00:02 The next generation of artists are thriving in the kingdom.
00:07 One Saudi muralist is on a creative journey
00:10 as she yearns to capture and share her country's heritage.

00:16 - I'm Noura bin Saiden.
00:20 Let's take a look around, Jazan.
00:22 (upbeat music)
00:24 I've always liked drawing characters
00:29 that represent Saudi identity.
00:31 That covers our different regions.
00:34 In this mural, for example,
00:35 I've drawn the face of a local from Jazan.
00:38 It's not a real character, but it represents these people,
00:44 the fruits of my imagination,
00:46 a smiling, welcoming face that suggests a big heart.

00:52 This fresco took me four days to complete.
00:58 I employed several techniques, a spray, the paint,
01:02 but also lots of drawing.
01:04 That allows me to mark out the lines.
01:07 That's the role of an artist,
01:09 to capture the varied aspects of Saudi identity.
01:13 (upbeat music)
01:27 I started out as a painter, doing small paintings.
01:30 When I discovered frescoes, I quickly realized
01:33 that they were the quickest way
01:34 to capture people's attention and make a name for myself.
01:38 It's an unusual format that's exhibited out in the open air.
01:44 That means it reaches more people
01:45 than something in a museum.
01:47 It's for everyone.
01:49 (upbeat music)
01:55 Creating murals is by no means an easy job.
01:59 Everything is done outside,
02:00 and often the weather conditions in Riyadh
02:02 are not favorable, which makes it challenging
02:05 and very tiring.
02:07 But when you concentrate on what you want the public to see,
02:10 you block all that out.
02:11 It's always amazing to see people's reactions.
02:15 Most of the time, they admire our work and are proud of us,
02:19 Saudi artists who immortalize moments in local life.
02:23 It's a real honor for me.
