00:00 (dramatic music)
00:02 - If it's got two wheels, I'll give it a try.
00:07 (laughs)
00:09 Yeah, just enjoy what's in front of you kind of thing.
00:14 - Meet Jane Daniels, one of the two ladies
00:17 at the start of the Dakar in bikes.
00:20 - I've had bikes pretty much for as long as I can remember,
00:23 but nothing competitive really up until like the age of 12.
00:26 My dad would just take me and my brother into the field
00:28 behind my grandma's house.
00:30 - And then the young lady from Wigan took on Enduro
00:33 with quite some talent and success.
00:36 - Never expected to be four times world champion
00:44 of Race World Enduro for 11 years, and now I'm here.
00:47 Rallying was never something massive
00:54 when I was growing up or anything like that.
00:56 It's a lot more standing up, yeah,
00:59 and not so much like tight, twisty turns
01:02 like that we have at the World Enduro.
01:04 Quite enjoy the road book and stuff.
01:08 It's like, I've described it to everyone
01:10 as taking yourself on a big trail ride
01:11 and navigating yourself around, so yeah, I'm excited.
01:15 It's like a new adventure.
01:16 Complications-wise, though, I would say
01:19 that riding the dunes and stuff, you've gotta read them.
01:22 - And it certainly hasn't been a walk in the park
01:25 for the 29-year-old.
01:27 - Did you get the crash on video?
01:34 - No. - Oh.
01:36 - Sorry.
01:37 - Well, I would say I'm quite gentle on a bike,
01:39 to be honest with you.
01:40 Like, I don't burn through clutches or brake pads
01:44 or anything like that.
01:45 I'm quite reserved.
01:45 I don't bully the bike through a rock or anything.
01:48 I try and get us both through in one piece.
01:54 Between me, my dad, and my brother,
01:56 it could be a game of connect four,
01:58 and if you win, it is the greatest, greatest thing ever.
02:01 I'm very competitive, I can't deny that one.
02:05 I think I'd like to win the women's class,
02:17 but the main goal is just to finish, experience it,
02:21 and finish happy with myself that I did the best I could.
02:25 Finish with a smile.
