00:00 It's five weeks since an emotional Anastasia Palaszczuk retired from politics, leaving
00:07 the people of Inala without a local member.
00:11 We get the by-election happening, yeah, but I haven't heard anything more about it. I
00:16 thought it was going to happen this month, but we haven't heard anything, no.
00:20 That's a fair weight. I thought I would have heard something about it in the news by now.
00:24 The opposition wants it fast-tracked and has urged the government to recommend to the Governor
00:28 a date in the next few weeks, rather than waiting for the likely date of March 16th,
00:34 the day of the local government elections.
00:36 We just don't believe that cuts the mustard. It's not right, it's not fair, it's not democratic.
00:42 An announcement will be made in due course when the by-election will happen.
00:47 But that's not good enough for the opposition.
00:50 It's very likely that Parliament will resume for 2024, an election year, an important year,
00:56 and for at least two sittings there will be a vacant seat for the electorate of Inala.
01:02 But the Deputy Premier says Inala residents aren't being neglected. Cameron Dick says
01:07 staff here at the former Premier's electorate office are continuing to help constituents.
01:13 The people of Inala know the Labor government's got their back. All of the members of the
01:18 ministry are working hard to support that community.
01:21 Both Labor and the LNP are finalising their candidates.
01:25 We're always looking forward to being able to have a say on who we want to look after our area.
