00:00 A children's first 1000 days coalition organization launched a line of support for the problem of malnutrition in children
00:08 one of the reasons for the boycott. Sujin Kim in detail.
00:12 Malnutrition is considered a serious problem in the country.
00:20 Aside from malnutrition and being close to the illness of children, it also causes low IQ and low productivity.
00:30 The most shocking thing is that the Philippines is the country that has the most cases of malnutrition.
00:36 In fact, three out of every ten Filipinos are affected.
00:40 In addition, the Children's First 1000 Days Coalition program launched, where 1,000 volunteers participated.
00:49 Its goal is to give the non-governmental organizations or NGOs an operations manual, a training program.
00:57 Here are the ways and steps to address malnutrition.
01:03 For example, educate its members, including the spouses, on the importance of nutrition during the first 1000 days.
01:12 From the first 1000 days to the second 1000 days, or second birthday,
01:21 that's when the formation of the human brain occurs.
01:32 And if a child is malnourished in this phase of his life, his body will become weak, he becomes sickly.
01:42 And because malnutrition starts while the mother is pregnant,
01:48 the general nutrition and trimester-specific maternal health guidelines are included in the manual.
01:54 As a mother, I also have three children.
01:58 So I'm very, very conscious about the food that I give to my children while they are very young.
02:07 As I said, the first 1000 days. And now, as a Lion, I'm a member of Lions Clubs International,
02:15 one of our advocacy activities is to make sure that children are healthy.
02:22 Because I believe that this is their escape from poverty.
02:28 Healthy and educated. And how do we do that? We do that with proper nutrition.
02:35 And this starts while they are still very young.
02:38 We support this program because we know that as mothers, we don't want to see many people starving.
02:46 The City of Manila being the capital, if you're in the area of Quiapo, Binondo, Divisoria,
02:53 by night time, even in front of the YMCA office, you can see people lying down.
03:00 They are very deprived.
03:02 There are still many who are lying down. I hope our government will help them.
03:07 The coalition is asking for the NGOs to be divided in the fight against malnutrition
03:13 to ensure a healthy future for Filipino children.
03:17 Sujin Kim, for the Morning Show of the City, Rise and Shine, Philippines.
