00:00 "Bakshmana shouldn't be alone anymore. I'm so glad we're finally back together."
00:06 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're looking at interesting or funny
00:12 non-canonical endings in video games. "It's not like he'll die. It's Batman, right?"
00:19 Number 10. Choosing cremation. Hitman Blood Money. "We need to get to the
00:24 chaplain. 47's ashes are going to take pride of place on my mantle. Chaplain!"
00:31 This installment in the Assassin Simulation series has a pretty great
00:35 finale. It seems as if our anti-hero has been killed off by Deanna making for a
00:40 dour ending. However, she actually uses a fake death serum for which she gives him
00:47 the antidote at his own funeral. "By me. We admire your objectivity, Rick. Thank you."
00:54 "Don't mention it." He rises again post credits and takes vengeance on those
00:59 hunting him. Or he can simply not. Because whether Agent 47 gets up depends on if
01:05 the player chooses to interact. If you don't input any controls, you'll be
01:09 cremated. A fake out within a fake out is pretty clever. Some players may not have
01:15 even realized they were meant to input anything, making this a bit of a troll.
01:22 Number 9. Gale Bomb. Baldur's Gate 3. "Hello. I'm Gale of Waterdeep. Apologies.
01:36 Usually better at this." Gale the wizard is one of several companions you can take
01:41 on your journey in Baldur's Gate 3. His nature means he must absorb magical
01:46 artifacts during Act 1, leading to him absorbing the ultra-powerful Netherese
01:50 Orb in Act 2. This essentially makes him a bomb, able to detonate himself at any
01:56 time. That would mean death for him or anyone near him, but grants you an early
02:01 ending. "To have it. To hold. Or if only I could." At the end of Act 2, Gale can go out with a
02:10 pun and a bang to destroy the villains. However, it's not a notable sacrifice and
02:16 the narrator tells you all for it. All of those infected like you go on to
02:21 transform into illithids, basically enslaving, killing, and infecting everyone
02:26 else. "A plague of illithids will soon descend on the Sword Coast, enslaving all
02:32 they do not infect." Number 8. Plenty of Fish. Shadow Complex. "Didn't you say the
02:38 other night at the bar that you could keep up with me?" "You were hitting on me.
02:42 I'd have said anything." This metroidvania follows Jason as he attempts to rescue his
02:47 girlfriend Claire after she's kidnapped by mysterious soldiers with impressive
02:51 tech. But in its alternate ending, you can simply choose not to deal with it. The
02:56 game opens on the couple going hiking by some caverns, with Claire being taken
03:00 when she stumbles on a secret facility. Obviously, you're meant to heroically go
03:05 after her, defeating all who stand in your way.
03:10 But if players choose to backtrack to their car, Jason will leave Claire to
03:18 fend for herself, quipping about how there are plenty of fish in the sea.
03:22 "Plenty of fish in the sea." Code. But it's definitely funny the developers
03:28 thought to put that in there. Number 7. Ending You. Nier Automata.
03:37 Another game in which you can blow yourself up and basically doom everyone
03:42 is Nier Automata. Although you must complete a series of playthroughs to
03:46 reach the true ending, there are a total of 26. One for each letter of the alphabet.
03:51 "Run! I'll figure out how to handle this." "But what about you?" "These guys can't touch me."
03:57 Most of them are negative or silly, though ending you gets the biggest
04:01 chuckle from us. The game's characters have an ability to self-destruct, which
04:06 is a huge AOE blast for fighting enemies, but leaves you with little health.
04:10 However, if you choose to self-destruct on the android base, you destroy it.
04:17 Imagining the commander floating through space looking stern is the cherry on top.
04:24 Number 6. Food Poisoning. Persona 4 Arena.
04:34 This Persona 4 spin-off is a fighting game rather than an RPG. Although playing
04:39 through each character's story results in their ending, there are a handful of
04:43 alternate ones. During scene 7 of Yukiko's story, you get a gag ending if you
04:49 choose to check on her box lunch. Whatever she has in there is surely
04:53 poison. She feeds it to several allies, all of which fall ill. "Open wide."
05:02 What makes this ending great is that she never realizes her food is the cause. She
05:07 thinks it has healing properties, believing you is cursed as she forces it
05:11 down his throat. After everyone else gets sick, she thinks they must have gotten
05:16 swine flu. "Holy crap." "Come on now, I want to see clean plates." Number 5. Out of Here.
05:26 The Bard's Tale. "You'll need a bigger sword than what you've got in case you run
05:32 into trouble." "Oh and uh, my sword is quite big enough to handle any troubles you
05:38 might have." This parody action RPG pokes plenty of fun at the fantasy genre. It
05:44 follows a selfish bard only adventuring in order to find fame and fortune. But
05:48 eventually, he's caught in the middle of a conflict between a demon and some
05:52 druids. Players can choose their final boss, fighting the druid leader or the
05:57 demon for a different ending. However, the fake ending is actually in line with the
06:02 character. "Alright, I've made my choice." By choosing Out of Here, armies of the
06:07 undead take over the world. But the bard is actually pretty okay with it, seeing
06:11 as how they make excellent drinking companions. Honestly, the developers really
06:16 understand what bards are all about. "You two have serious control issues. You
06:22 realize that don't you?" Number 4. The Dog Ending. Undertale. Even outside of three
06:33 main plot lines of Undertale, there are several fake endings players can uncover.
06:38 But by far the silliest is the dog ending. On any given playthrough, players
06:43 will come across a silly white dog that usually just messes with other
06:47 characters. By killing only the bosses Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne, and Mettaton, and
06:53 no other monsters whatsoever, your character will escape the underground.
07:01 After the credits, Sans will call you to say the annoying dog became president.
07:06 It's actually a good outcome, despite the dog's laziness.
07:10 Floey will also appear, trying to get you to come back so you can take over
07:14 everything together. But it's the dog's rise in the power over monsters that
07:20 makes this ending great.
07:23 Number 3. Joker wins. Batman Arkham City. "There's nothing wrong with you. Nice of
07:30 you to say, but you of all people should know there's plenty wrong with you." Arkham City expanded on Batman by letting us play as
07:40 other characters. Catwoman received her own story missions that occurred
07:44 alongside the main story, connecting at a point where Bruce was in need of serious
07:49 help. Having successfully completed her heist, players can choose for Selena to
07:53 rescue Batman or let him fend for himself. "You can do it. Just walk right out of
07:58 here and leave him. It's easy." We already knew she would save him, but if you choose
08:03 to leave with your loot, you get VO from Oracle over the end credits explaining
08:08 that both Batman and Jim Gordon are dead and that Joker's forces have taken the
08:13 city.
08:15 The game then rewinds to let you make the right decision. "Don't die Batman. I'm
08:25 coming to save you." Number 2. Following instructions. Far Cry 4. "Yes, stop the bus.
08:33 Shoot the bus." Far Cry 4 follows a man returning to his native home to spread
08:39 his mother's ashes. However, he immediately has a run-in with pagan men,
08:43 the country's king. Everything from this encounter makes it clear how violent and
08:48 untrustworthy you should find him. So after he kidnaps you and tells you to
08:52 sit tight while he deals with your tour guide, it seems clear you should flee. If
08:56 you don't and wait around 15 minutes, you get a surprisingly positive fake ending.
09:02 "You sir are a gentleman. I sincerely apologize. We saw terrorists in the area
09:08 and yada yada." Pagan men returns to let you spread the ashes and you learn of the
09:13 daughter your mother had with him. It's a nice reward for being patient and
09:17 actually a happier outcome than what the rest of the game offered. "Maybe now we
09:21 can finally shoot some goddamn guns."

09:41 Number one, an even better dog ending, Silent Hill 2. "I'm looking for someone."
09:51 "Who is it?" "Someone very important to me." There is honestly no fake ending in
10:00 video games more iconic than this one. Silent Hill 2 is clearly a very serious
10:05 game, what with its disturbing themes and twisted monsters. In stark contrast, the
10:10 dog ending takes everything players experience and makes it one big joke. You
10:15 must first have unlocked the game's three main endings before you can find a
10:19 key inside a doghouse that opens up an observation room.
10:27 "Omae no shiwaza dotonaka." Inside, the protagonist finds a Shiba Inu pulling
10:34 levers and watching monitors. He then breaks down at the thought of a dog
10:38 being behind all his suffering. In Japanese, no matter your language setting,
10:43 it's completely unexpected and entirely hilarious, as are the following end
10:48 credits. What's your favorite fake ending in video games? Let us know in the
