00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 20 Hardest Endings
00:22to get in gaming.
00:33For this list, we'll be looking at video game conclusions that are difficult to reach,
00:38whether they're the canon ending or an optional one.
00:41However, we won't be including the disarmament ending of Metal Gear Solid V, as that was
00:47proved impossible to get without hacking.
00:49Obviously, we'll be getting into some major spoiler territory.
00:54Which of these endings was a struggle for you?
00:57Let us know in the comments!
00:59Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
01:04the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
01:09Marin's Happy Ending, The Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening
01:21There's usually only one ending to reach in a Zelda game, but Link's Awakening gives
01:27you a nice bonus for extra effort.
01:29After washing up on the strange Koholint Island, the first character Link makes friends with
01:35is Marin.
01:36She later tells him she wishes she could turn into a seagull so that she could explore the
01:41wider world.
01:42At the end, when the island disappears due to it being part of the Wind Fish's dream,
01:47she goes with it.
01:55But if you beat the game without dying, you'll get a nod that Marin's wish came true.
02:06Link's Awakening isn't an overly difficult game, but not dying once is still a challenge.
02:13The Good Ending, Metro The Last Light
02:24Both the good and bad endings of Last Light end the same way, but the difference is whether
02:29you're alive to see it or not.
02:31The game works off a morality system, adding points for various compassionate or merciless
02:36acts.
02:37Unfortunately, it never tells you how high or low your karmic points are, and some of
02:43your decisions will be subtle or go against what the average player would do, like sparing
02:48Nazi enemies instead of killing them.
02:58It was actually way easier to reach the bad ending because of this.
03:02For your character to survive, you had to make the right choice during specific moments.
03:15Full Purity, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2, Chaos Rising
03:30Some games force the player to forego certain gameplay features to reach a certain ending.
03:36In Chaos Rising, a new feature to the Warhammer series is corruption.
03:41It keeps track of how willing your characters are to go down a path of chaos.
03:46Some items add to your corruption levels, but also come with really useful perks to
03:51give you an edge in combat.
03:52To unlock the full purity ending, though, you won't be able to indulge in any of these
03:58items.
04:03Of the game's five endings, this is definitely the hardest one to reach.
04:08It isn't as if your corruption level can be low, it has to be non-existent.
04:21Grim Reaper, Way of the Samurai 3
04:28Some games feature one ending, others a handful, but Way of the Samurai 3 has 22 different
04:36conclusions, which is just absurd.
04:38Moreover, the hardest one to get is far from worth it.
04:42The Grim Reaper ending is only unlocked if you've killed every NPC you can come across.
04:47However, since some characters are only introduced through others, you have to kill them in a
04:52specific order.
04:58Your reward is a text crawl, a mere three sentences long, over a still image recounting
05:03your legacy as a demon.
05:05That's a whole lot of effort for basically nothing other than some bragging rights.
05:17Endings F to Z, Nier Automata
05:27Surpassing 22 endings is Nier Automata, which has a conclusion for each letter in the alphabet.
05:35Endings A through E serve as the main finale of the game, while each one after that can
05:41only be released if you do or don't complete specific requirements.
05:45They can be found out of order, and some of them are simply reached by dying in certain
05:50missions.
06:07On the other hand, some of them take a lot of time and work.
06:11Some can only be reached on a second or third playthrough, and you have to actively let
06:16your allies die or abandon a mission.
06:19It isn't obvious where these endings will appear either.
06:35Nightfall Protocol, Batman Arkham Knight
06:47This is an extra ending that actually makes a lot of sense.
06:51As the Dark Knight, you'd absolutely want to make sure the streets of Gotham were safe,
06:56which means knocking out all of those most wanted side quests before you remove your
07:00cape and cowl.
07:02The good news?
07:03There's only 14 of them, DLC excluded.
07:06The bad news?
07:07You're going to have a hell of a time getting through all of them.
07:10On top of having to stop some pretty tough contenders, your investigation skills will
07:15be put to the test because, you guessed it, you gotta find all those damn Riddler trophies.
07:21Truly, you are the gamer that Gotham deserves.
07:33Mona Sax Lives, Max Payne 2, The Fall of Max Payne
07:44In the original Max Payne, Mona Sax was an assassin who refused to take the detective's
07:50life.
07:51Though it was a small part, she was much more prominent in the sequel, where she acted as
07:56a romantic interest for Max as well as a playable secondary protagonist.
08:01For most players, she tragically died in the end, but for those willing to put in much
08:05more effort, you could save her life.
08:17All you had to do was beat it on the hardest difficulty, Dead on Arrival.
08:23Unfortunately, it wasn't just that all enemy AI was raised to be stronger and smarter,
08:28you also had a limited amount of saves to use throughout.
08:33Claiming to be resourceful could mean replaying big chunks of the game.
08:44Saving Everyone, Mass Effect 2 One of the most memorable aspects from Mass
08:57Effect 2 is its harrowing suicide mission during the climax.
09:01Depending on how you interact with Shepard's crew members and what quests you complete,
09:06they can all theoretically live or die on the mission.
09:10It's fairly likely that at least one of them will perish, but making sure none of
09:14them do is quite the accomplishment.
09:16It means getting every ship upgrade both offensive and defensive, beating every loyalty mission,
09:23as well as delegating to your crew correctly on certain missions.
09:41Only after the laundry list of requirements is completed should you feel safe enough to
09:45head into the finale.
09:47Otherwise, part of your crew won't be making it out alive.
09:53Purification, Sekiro, Shadows Die Twice
10:13We really shouldn't be surprised that getting the good ending in a FromSoftware game is
10:18a challenge.
10:20In Sekiro, players control a ninja seeking retribution against a clan that kidnapped
10:26his lord, the young Kuro.
10:28In the regular ending, Kuro dies, but the ending in which you sacrifice yourself to
10:33save him is much harder to obtain.
10:42You have to have gathered certain items, gone through all dialogue and eavesdrop options
10:47with Kuro, chosen to portray the man who brought you up, and many other optional and easily
10:53missed choices.
10:54The game is difficult enough as is without having to worry about a checklist of obscure
10:59details just to accomplish our goal.
11:11The Last Story, Shadow the Hedgehog
11:22Some games make you complete certain objectives to earn a hidden ending.
11:27Some are earned by beating a harder difficulty.
11:29And then there's Shadow the Hedgehog, which makes you beat it ten times to unlock the
11:35true ending.
11:37The game features a multitude of decisions that can take Shadow down five separate paths.
11:42At the end of each path is one final decision, a choice of dark or hero mission, giving each
11:49path two endings.
11:51Only by unlocking all of them, which again means beating it ten times, do you find out
11:57how everything actually ends.
12:06Shadow the Hedgehog isn't that hard of a game, but it also isn't a very good one,
12:11so playing it through multiple times requires a lot of dedication.
12:17Tidus Return, Final Fantasy X-2
12:28At the end of Final Fantasy X, protagonist Tidus vanished, but in its sequel it was possible
12:35to have him come back in a happy ending.
12:37It was just very, very tough to unlock.
12:42To do so, you'd have to complete certain events or missions at specific points, some
12:46of which wouldn't be made aware to you.
12:49In fact, you could miss out on some if you happened to choose the wrong faction.
13:02That lack of clarity made reaching this ending extremely rare, but it isn't even the hardest
13:08ending to obtain.
13:10One hundred percent completion gave you the perfect ending, which came with the myriad
13:15of annoyances as the previous one, plus more work, and only for one extra scene.
13:25Ending A, Valkyrie Profile
13:37In Valkyrie Profile, you play as one of the winged fairy women of the dead, guiding souls
13:43of fallen warriors.
13:45In game, the points of your seal value represent how loyal you are to Odin and fluctuate as
13:51you complete certain quests or actions.
13:54To get the best ending, not only do you have a checklist of things you must accomplish,
13:59but you must also make sure the points in your seal value are at the right levels at
14:05the right times.
14:14In 1999, there was no way to know this.
14:18Even playing today, you'd have to follow a strict guide on what to do and when to do
14:23it for it to be a guarantee.
14:31Secret Endings – Kingdom Hearts Series Do you want to see a teaser to the next game
14:36in the series that'll leave you with more questions than answers?
14:39All it takes is a healthy serving of blood, sweat, tears, and a high tolerance for Donald
14:45Duck screaming your name.
14:50Usually, the extra ending in a Kingdom Hearts game can be achieved by either trying your
14:57hand at Proud Mode or doing an insane amount of tasks in the game's normal difficulty
15:03setting, including finding all the collectibles, completing ridiculous challenges, and, everyone's
15:09favorite, surviving every single cup in the Olympus Coliseum.
15:14Which usually means facing off against overpowered versions of the cast of Final Fantasy.
15:28Hellish Abyss Ending – Fatal Frame 2 Pro tip – don't follow red butterflies
15:34into the woods.
15:35They'll lead you to ghost-infested towns where your only means of defense is a camera.
15:41The Xbox version of this paranormal investigator's nightmare added an extra ending, but it's
15:46not the most difficult one to get.
15:49That honor goes to the one with the word Hellish in it.
15:57First, beat the game on Hard, then Nightmare, which gets you the Xbox-exclusive ending.
16:06Then beat Fatal Mode, the Xbox-exclusive difficulty where most of the ghosts can kill
16:11you in one hit.
16:13The kicker?
16:14The PS2 version lets you get this ending by beating the game on Hard Mode.
16:19Clearly, Tecmo hated Xbox fans.
16:30Extra Endings – Five Nights at Freddy's Series
16:34Welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, the source of nightmares for an entire generation
16:40of Let's Players.
16:42In Jump Scares the Game, you are sorely overworked and beyond underpaid as you try to survive
16:49each night before you're mauled by the group of animatronics who wander the halls.
17:03If you're feeling particularly brave, or foolish, you can attempt to unlock the game's
17:09extra endings by working additional nights.
17:13This can mean one of two things.
17:15One, setting all of the crazed mascot characters to their max difficulty and surviving the
17:21night, or two, finding the game's secrets and glitching your way through them.
17:27Bottom line?
17:28Quit the pizza shack and find another job!
17:37Pacifist and Genocide Endings – Undertale An instant charmer to the RPG genre, a game
17:45full of unique characters, challenging gameplay, and the ability to murder everyone you come
17:52across.
17:53Or you can save them all, that's who.
18:03Spoiler – play the game like normal first, then tackle the pacifist run, and if your
18:08heart is made of ice, the genocide run.
18:11The difficulty comes with sticking to your convictions.
18:15Either you don't kill anyone, which makes battles much harder since you're trying
18:19to avoid attacks, or you kill everyone, which makes your opponents try their best to stop
18:24your murderous rampage.
18:26Oh, and it unlocks a boss who will undoubtedly dunk on you.
18:38The Real End – Super Meat Boy On the surface, this looks like a cartoonishly
18:44entertaining game that'll put a smile on your face.
18:54Or not.
18:57Super Meat Boy is all of those things, while putting you through a marathon of levels that
19:02you'll swear are unbeatable until you see that speedrun video online.
19:11If you're feeling masochistic, you'll tackle the Dark World version of World 6.
19:16Then again, to even unlock it, you need to complete 85 Dark World levels, so you're
19:22clearly someone who's into pain.
19:24As to be expected, the Dark World is there to make you cry, but it's better than having
19:29to beat Cotton Alley for an extra ending.
19:36The Dream Project – Chrono Trigger Sometimes, the trickiest endings to unlock
19:41are the ones that have nothing to do with the story.
19:44Chrono Trigger's endings revolve around beating the final boss.
19:55The question is, when are you going to fight the good fight?
19:59Surely you're not insane enough to try at the beginning of the game with just Chrono
20:03and Marle, are you?
20:06How about when Lavos is twice as strong at the Ocean Palace?
20:09Well, those are your two options for getting this secret ending, and yes, it has absolutely
20:15no bearing on the plot beyond.
20:18Wow, that was kinda cute.
20:20Can't we just have to get 100% completion like in other RPGs?
20:32Bloodborne Let's be honest, getting any ending in
20:37a FromSoftware game is gonna make you tear all your hair out in frustration.
20:42This particular ending is a mix of tedious, difficult, and kinda gross.
20:57First you have to seek out umbilical cords.
21:00You know, because people just have those lying around for us to consume before giant boss
21:05battles.
21:06As you would have guessed, this takes a bit of digging that'll either force you to explore
21:10everything or thank the gaming powers that be for that walkthrough.
21:14Next, make sure you use them before you encounter Gurmon, the first hunter.
21:19Refuse his offer, survive that battle somehow, then get ready to face the Moon Presence.
21:26Good luck!
21:33The Real Ending Ghosts'n'Goblins Series
21:37In this classic side-scrolling platformer, your task sounds simple enough.
21:42Save the princess.
21:47Unfortunately, the game is a bit unfair, losing your armor upgrade in just one hit, going
21:56back to the start of the level when you die.
22:00But worst of all is the way to get the real ending.
22:04If you manage to make it to the end, there's always something that forces you to start
22:08at the very beginning and replay the whole thing to truly win the day.
22:14There's nothing secret or extra about it.
22:17If you want to save the princess, you gotta play TWICE.
22:21Seriously, we don't want to hear another complaint about Mario saving Princess Peach again.
