Three spectators lost their lives during the 7th special stage Rybí-Štramberk of the Valašská Rally 2009. The accident happened at about 10h50 on Saturday, 28 March 2009, in the area between the villages of Štramberk, Rybí and Závišice, where a 6.1-kilometer public road circuit called Štramberský Trojúhelník (Štramberk's Triangle) hosted cars and motorcycles races until 1970.
The Slovak driver Lukáš Lapdavský, aged 21 lost control of his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX and drove off the road in a bumpy straight after jumping high. The car ploughed into a group of spectators standing on the outside of a right turn, presumably in a prohibited area, killing three of them.
Josef Hykel, aged 38, his son, also called Josef, 13, both from Kopřivnice, Czech Republic, and another 14-year-old boy, whose name was not released, were killed at the scene. Lukáš Lapdavský sustained chest injuries. He and his elder brother and co-driver Július Lapdavský, 28, and also another injured spectator were taken to Nový Jičín hospital.
The event was the first round of the 2009 International Rally Championship of the Czech Republic. After the accident the rally was immediately stopped and the subsequent special stages were annulled.
The Štramberk's Triangle track was abandoned in 1970, in consequence of two fatal accidents that caused the deaths of Miloslav Hrubý and two spectators.
