Do people still make New Year's resolutions and do they stick to them?

00:16 And then when it's cold, you want chocolate and cake,
00:19 not lettuce and tomatoes.
00:22 I've made them in the past, and I've never kept them.
00:25 So it's been a waste of time.
00:27 And at my age, I've learned, don't bother.
00:31 Well, I've tried.
00:32 I mean, I've tried to lose weight.
00:34 I've tried to keep fit.
00:35 I've tried to stop going for a pint in the pub,
00:38 that sort of thing.
00:39 And it never worked.
00:41 And I spent a lot of time in the Royal Navy,
00:44 where you couldn't always keep to the promises
00:49 you made yourself.
00:51 I don't really make resolutions anymore,
00:53 because then you get disappointed if you don't.
00:56 It can be a bit like unachievable and too much

01:02 So I tend to just--

01:08 I think if you're going to do a resolution,
01:10 you don't need a special day.
01:11 You should do it on the day that you need to do it.
01:13 No, I think if you need to change something,
01:15 you should change it when you need to change it.
01:18 Sometimes, but I always know that I'm not going to make it.
01:23 I think because you're comfortable in the way you are.

01:27 I think you'd like to be more comfortable in the way

01:31 But I just think it's hard work trying to do that.
01:35 I've done it before.
01:36 I lost four stone in eight months one time,
01:40 doing 1,000 calories, eat anything you like.
01:43 And you feel just amazing.
01:45 But I think you get to sort of say, yeah,
01:48 I'm going to do it today.
01:49 But then it slips up, and then you
01:51 eat something that you know you're not going to.
01:55 So you just give up.
01:57 No, I think it's really weird.
01:58 It's psychological, most definitely.
