Just A Bulldog Minute: How Dak Prescott's Career Aligns with Tony Romo
Transcript
00:00 Now that former Mississippi State quarterback and current Dallas Cowboys
00:04 quarterback Dak Prescott has finished the 2023 season with his name in MVP
00:10 conversation, his career is starting to align with the story of the play caller
00:16 before him, Tony Romo. Prescott took over as starting quarterback in 2016 after
00:22 Romo suffered a preseason back injury. The history of the two quarterbacks has
00:27 become incredibly similar. Romo was an undrafted free agent and Prescott was a
00:32 fourth round pick. Since playing for the Cowboys, both have been selected for
00:37 multiple Pro Bowls and set team records. These underdog characteristics have led
00:42 them to be household names for the Cowboys. Romo left the team at a 2-4
00:48 playoff record while Prescott is carrying the team at 2-5. The big
00:53 question for what Prescott's future holds lies in his contract. Jerry Jones
00:59 has two options for Prescott's contract in the future. He could either extend the
01:04 contract which would put Prescott among the highest paid quarterbacks in the
01:08 NFL or he could play out Prescott's final year knowing they could not use a
01:13 franchise tag on him in 2025. The Cowboys had a similar dilemma with Romo in 2013.
01:21 Romo signed a six-year extension taking him through 2019 at a hundred and eight
01:26 million dollars. Prescott has the opportunity to take the Cowboys to
01:31 another level next season if he is able to get the momentum from the regular
01:36 season to the postseason playoffs.
