00:13 Norman Lear, and the many entertainers and TV creators

00:17 who died over the last year

00:19 in a heartfelt in-memoriam segment.

00:21 Tonight, as we remember the legends of our industry

00:25 we lost this past year,

00:27 we celebrate their lives and legacy

00:30 and the joy they brought to us.

00:32 So to all of the members of all of our television families

00:37 who have passed on,

00:38 those were the days.

00:45 Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers introduced the segment

00:48 by paying tribute to TV icon and pioneer Norman Lear,

00:52 who passed on December 5th, 2023 at 101 years old.

00:56 Over the decades, Norman brought us together

00:58 and he created groundbreaking television shows

01:01 that depicted real people,

01:03 made us laugh, made us think, made us feel.

01:06 After honoring his legacy,

01:08 the pair introduced Charlie Puth

01:09 and the musical duo, The War and the Treaty,

01:12 who deliver a beautiful rendition of "See You Again"

01:15 during a video montage tribute.

01:29 Of the honorees, one particularly moving moment

01:32 includes "Friends" star, Matthew Perry,

01:34 who died at his home on October 28th, 2023 at age 54.

01:39 When it came time to honor the five-time Emmy nominee,

01:43 the musicians transitioned from their first number

01:46 into a deeply touching rendition of "I'll Be There for You,"

01:49 the iconic "Friends" theme song.
