00:16 (upbeat music)
00:19 Happy hump day, I'm Tetris Kelly.
00:22 It's Wednesday, January 24th,
00:24 and we're kicking off this episode of Billboard News
00:26 with an exciting announcement.
00:28 Women in Music is around the corner.
00:30 And I'm so excited to let you know
00:32 some of this year's superstar honorees.
00:35 - Billboard's Women in Music is back.
00:37 - Tonight, we honor the women who have been leading the way.
00:42 - Wednesday, March 6th, the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
00:48 - Wanted to take a moment to say
00:49 what an amazing, inspiring night this has been.
00:51 - This is absolutely insane.
00:53 I feel so honored and blessed to be here.
00:55 - Thank you, Billboard.
00:56 - Honoring Charli XCX, Ice Spice, Kylie Minogue,
01:00 Louisa Sonsa, Maren Morris, New Jeans,
01:03 Thames, Victoria Monet, and Young Miko.
01:06 And soon to be announced, Billboard's Women of the Year,
01:10 with host, Tracee Ellis Ross.
01:12 - And it's about to be an epic night.
01:15 - Come celebrate the start of Women's History Month with us.
01:18 - General tickets on sale January 27th,
01:21 with Amex card members getting early access on January 24th.
01:25 - This is me, and I'm happy to be here.
01:27 Thank you, Billboard.
01:28 - This is a huge honor.
01:29 Thank you so, so much.
01:31 - I wanna first thank Billboard
01:32 from the bottom of my heart.
01:33 - Go to BillboardWomenInMusic.com for all the details.
01:37 (upbeat music)
01:40 - Thank you, we love you.
01:42 (upbeat music)
01:45 - I can't wait for Women in Music,
01:47 and I can't wait to find out
01:48 who gets the honor of Woman of the Year.
01:51 But now, let's get into three more things
01:53 that you need to know.
01:54 Legends respect legends,
01:56 and Beyonce's mom, Tina Knowles,
01:58 is making sure you know she did not shade Janet Jackson.
02:01 After she liked a post about Janet's ticket prices,
02:04 with the caption saying,
02:05 "Her production doesn't match Beyonce's,"
02:08 Miss Tina is clearing the air.
02:10 - First of all, being on the other side of that,
02:12 I know better than anyone what a great production costs,
02:17 and that it's expensive.
02:18 And I would never criticize another artist,
02:21 let alone Janet Jackson, who is the queen of production.
02:25 - Guys, let's be real.
02:26 We know Miss Tina was not paying that post close attention.
02:29 She probably was like, "Yes, Janet, charge them regulars."
02:32 But also, speaking of Miss Jackson,
02:35 lovers and friends may be my favorite festival every year,
02:38 and this year, the Usher-backed Vegas Fest
02:40 has announced its lineup,
02:42 and of course, Usher will be performing
02:44 his Confessions album,
02:45 and we get Backstreet Boys, Janet Jackson, and more.
02:50 Me, personally, I'm so excited
02:51 that Lil Wayne is performing The Carter III.
02:54 We get a Kelly Rowland solo set,
02:56 and my boy Jason Derulo.
02:58 He barely ever performs in the States.
03:00 And keeping a theme of black queens,
03:02 Kelly Rowland is also starring
03:03 in a new Netflix movie called Mia Coppa,
03:06 and the trailer just dropped.
03:07 - Can you count me?
03:08 - Why would she record this?
03:10 - I don't know, Leah.
03:11 - DNA found in one of your paintings.
03:13 - Is enough to bury your ass!
03:15 - Kelly Rowland as a criminal defense attorney in a thriller?
03:19 Sign me the blank up.
03:21 I know somebody's got a Netflix password
03:24 lying around for me.
03:25 - I know that you have an eye for details,
03:27 so don't leave anything out.
03:29 - Time to get into one of the most buzzed about
03:31 new Netflix series, Griselda.
03:33 Sofia Vergara stars as the titular drug lord,
03:36 and Carol G makes her acting debut in the show.
03:39 - All that I have been through,
03:41 I'm not gonna give it away for nothing.
03:43 (speaking in foreign language)
03:47 I mean, everything was challenging for me,
03:49 mainly the first, like, I wanna say like the first month,
03:53 because I was starting, you know, trying new things.
03:56 I was never, you know, had never really acted in Spanish,
04:00 or a drama, or with prosthetics.
04:04 The three hours of hair and makeup were exhausting.
04:07 Like, I would finish my hair and makeup,
04:09 and I already wanted to go home,
04:10 but it was, my day was only starting.
04:13 So it was a lot of different things.
04:15 I had to like wrap my body so it didn't look like me.
04:18 - Those were all night shoots.
04:19 - It was all nights that we were shooting,
04:21 so that means everything more difficult.
04:24 We were far away from my house,
04:25 so I couldn't sleep any of those nights,
04:27 really, in my house in LA.
04:29 We were sleeping somewhere else,
04:31 like in a small, tiny, not any, very nice hotel.
04:35 So it was difficult, and the mood that Griselda was in
04:38 was very exhausting for me.
04:40 She was doing screaming, killing, you know, crying.
04:45 It was a lot.
04:46 - At Billboard, we've been following up
04:48 with Carol G's acting debut with Griselda.
04:50 How was it filming with her and working with her?
04:53 - Great.
04:54 I mean, she showed up and worked hard
04:58 alongside the other actors.
05:01 You know, obviously, you know, we had,
05:02 I had put, we'd put Bad Bunny in Narcos,
05:06 and that was a great experience as well,
05:08 but more often than not, when someone who's a superstar
05:13 in one world comes into a world where, you know,
05:16 they're, they, she's, you know, just an actress, really,
05:20 you never know what you're gonna get.
05:22 She was great, and her character's great,
05:25 and she's a paisa, you know, she's from Medellin,
05:27 so she's got, you know, she,
05:29 it was a thrill to have her, a joy.
05:32 - It was just wonderful working with her.
05:34 Everybody, when she came to set, everybody was happy,
05:37 and very professional.
05:39 - So humble. - And then, yeah.
05:40 - She's so humble, too. - It was fantastic.
05:43 I wish there was more, you know, of Carol G.
05:45 - Me too, man, me too. - In the show.
05:46 - It's just a taste. - But it's a taste.
05:48 - It's just a little taste, you know,
05:49 we want you to have a little bit more, want it more.
05:51 - For the full interviews, head to Billboard.com.
05:55 - Hi, everybody, this is Don Amar,
05:57 and these are five things you didn't know about me.
06:00 Number one, I'm afraid of frogs.
06:10 Can't deal with it.
06:12 Number two, I wake up every single day
06:17 at 3.30 a.m. in the morning.
06:21 Number three, I wake up every morning
06:25 to stay on top of three different companies
06:30 that goes from agriculture to product distribution.
06:34 Number four, there's people dying to met
06:40 their favorite artist or their favorite skater.
06:45 I'm dying to met Cesar Milan, the dog whisperer.
06:50 Number five, while everybody might thought or think
06:56 that I do have a driver and a special security service,
07:03 I drove my car and I go by myself everywhere.
07:10 And these were five things you didn't know about Don Amar.
07:15 Thanks for watching.
07:16 - That's today's show.
07:17 Make sure you come back tomorrow
07:18 to see who's on top of the TikTok charts
07:21 and Julia Michaels takes us behind the photo.
07:24 I'm Tetris Kelly, and this is Billboard News.
