00:00 Thousands of protesters have gathered in Brisbane to support the annual Invasion Day rally.
00:08 The protest began at Queen's Park in the CBD where speeches began with a minute of silence.
00:15 As you can see behind me, people from young to old have turned out in droves in support
00:21 of the annual Survival Day march.
00:25 Organisers were calling for the date of Australia Day to change, arguing it is not a day of
00:30 celebration for Indigenous peoples.
00:33 As the peaceful protesters have marched through the streets, they have called for justice
00:38 and land rights as they head towards Musgrave Park in West End.
00:43 Organisers have said they have seen a massive growth in support for the movement, for the
00:48 march which started with just 5 to 50 people and has now become a march that sees thousands
00:55 turn up every year.
00:57 We have also seen some traditional Australia Day events like the annual cockroach races
01:02 in Brisbane delayed until tomorrow.
01:05 The protest organisers said that despite the outcome of the voice referendum, which returned
01:11 a resounding no, they are faithful and confident that change is inevitable and that inequality
01:17 for Indigenous peoples and the disproportionate incarceration rates will be reversed.
01:23 The organisers also drew similarities with the experiences of Indigenous peoples to those
01:29 of Palestinian heritage in Gaza and have called today for an end to the war.
01:34 The march was also a celebration of Indigenous culture with dancing, music and plenty of
01:40 children performing for their peers and their family and supporters.
