Pakistan Demands Ceasefire in Gaza | Foreign Office Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch
Transcript
00:00 Pakistan has been given a month's time to deal with Israel. What is Pakistan's official stance on this?
00:07 What is the official narrative?
00:09 On one hand, we have been saying that Israel is unjustified, it is cruelty, it is barbarism.
00:19 But on the other hand, Pakistan has also supported South Africa in the International Court of Justice.
00:24 Are we going to continue that support through and through?
00:27 Yes, absolutely. First of all, Pakistan is in favour of the ICJ decision that has been made today.
00:38 And we think that the court has made some absolutely correct decisions.
00:44 One, the court has decided on its jurisdiction, which Israel did not agree to.
00:50 And Israel said that there is no jurisdiction for the ICJ in the current situation in Gaza.
01:00 So that has been rejected.
01:02 And secondly, their most important decision is that Israel should take those steps
01:09 so that the residents of Gaza are prevented from taking those steps that make the Genocide Convention applicable.
01:17 So today, just like South Africa and the Palestinians have approved this decision,
01:26 similarly, Pakistan has approved this decision.
01:30 Now we think that it is necessary for Israel to implement the ICJ decision.
01:37 At the same time, we also think that our original demand that a ceasefire be announced as soon as possible,
01:46 that is also very important. That process should continue.
01:50 Right, Mumtaz Sahiba, we have seen a very clear demographic shift from 1917 to 1995.
01:58 And that demographic shift reinforces the fact that Israel was forced to,
02:04 and there was a split in the middle, and now it is seen as a second split,
02:08 is changing the Palestinian state.
02:11 They want to take the people of Gaza to another country and give them the land they want.
02:20 They don't care about humans, they only care about the land.
02:23 In this situation, Israel has repeatedly rejected the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,
02:28 and the resolutions and speeches that were repeatedly presented,
02:34 and has also repeatedly insulted the United Nations.
02:36 Now you have heard a statement by Netanyahu about the International Court of Justice,
02:40 where he said that no one can stop us from taking these steps.
02:45 So the decision that has been made and the case that will be held,
02:48 as somebody who is from foreign services,
02:51 do you think it will be possible to enforce Israel?
02:58 Look, we have talked about this before,
03:02 according to international law, there is an institution that can implement any decision.
03:11 According to the UN Charter, the United Nations Security Council has been given this duty.
03:20 And we think that the United Nations Security Council, which has failed in this matter,
03:25 is responsible for playing its role,
03:28 and playing its role in changing the situation in Gaza,
03:35 and giving Israel the pressure to immediately end the war.
03:40 And for this reason, the supporters of Israel should also give Israel the pressure
03:45 to end the bloodshed that they have started.
03:50 And the biggest supporter of Israel is the United States.
03:53 Is Pakistan using its diplomatic channels to bring the United States to this side,
03:58 that the humanistic secularism that is emerging because of Israel's actions,
04:02 should it be stopped supporting it?
04:04 Look, Pakistan, along with the rest of the OIC countries,
04:11 and the developing countries, have taken a position.
04:19 As you know, the UNAM summit has just ended,
04:22 and the South Summit has been held,
04:25 and Pakistan has been presenting a position in the UNGA.
04:30 We believe in a collective voice, because it is heard more.
04:38 So our role is to talk to the international community in a loud voice,
04:44 so that the voice reaches the right quarters,
04:47 and our point of view is properly registered.
