Emergency crews on Queensland's Western Downs will assess whether residents can return to the town of Warra today - after yesterday's major floods forced the evacuation of 25 people - including 14 children. Weather warnings remain in place across the state’s south and south-east, where rain-weary people are starting to clean up.

00:00 Conditions have eased across southeast Queensland overnight and in fact we only had one swift
00:06 water rescue.
00:07 That was out west towards Forest Hill and that was a car that ended up submerged but
00:12 thankfully the driver managed to get themselves out so there was no need to rescue that driver.
00:17 But here in Beechmere this morning, look there is still a lot of water on the outskirts of
00:22 town where we are on Beechmere Road and look a lot of water heading out into the properties
00:28 around here surrounding some of these properties as well.
00:32 In fact over here I can just see some cattle that are hovering around an owner's property
00:37 this morning trying to stay out of the water.
00:41 Look it looks like most of it has cleared out from what we saw yesterday.
00:44 If you saw any of those aerial vision of Beechmere you would have seen there was a lot of water
00:49 in this area.
00:50 But also when we talk about what happened in Brisbane as well, Bray Park, that was an
00:56 area that got very badly hit.
00:58 A lot of properties on multiple streets were damaged from that weather that came through
01:04 there with flooding going almost over a metre in some of the people's properties.
01:11 But it is widespread what happened here all the way out to Lely as well where we spoke
01:16 to someone yesterday.
01:17 At the moment it's just a matter of getting the water out so they can start cleaning up
01:23 the mud and then when all that's done hopefully we'll be able to put my shop back together
01:30 a little bit.
