00:00 Time you faced up to what happened. Your mother and I will see you in heaven son.
00:08 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are looking at one of the most infamous video game towns with 10 Silent Hill theories that are probably true.
00:18 For this list we're trying to fill in some of the holes that Silent Hill has left open.
00:23 Although the town has lore and history spread deeply throughout its 9 mainline entries, it still leaves a lot of room for interpretation and theories.
00:33 We will be discussing some plot points in this video so spoiler warning ahead.

00:52 Blue Creek Whispers
00:56 Arguably the best entry in the series, Silent Hill 2 has a lot of strange individual moments that aren't part of the larger picture.
01:04 Small glimpses of horror spread throughout the town that aren't always caught by everyone.
01:09 One of these moments comes in room 209 of the Blue Creek Apartments.
01:14 Many players claim they've never heard the whispers as they only played through television speakers,
01:19 but with headphones on, the player will hear this whisper almost as if it was directly in their ear.
01:25 (Whispers)
01:32 The most popular theory online is that the inaudible whisper says, "See my dead wife, came home to do some laundry to escape."
01:40 (Whispers)
01:45 The claim is that this is James himself whispering about going to visit a hospitalized Mary, his quote, "dead wife",
01:53 and with "coming home to do some laundry" being a common euphemism for masturbation,
01:57 James is referring to escaping mentally from the burden of Mary.
02:01 Three Silent Hills
02:02 (Whispers)
02:05 Although Silent Hill is talked about constantly, given a history and filled with its own lore,
02:12 it's still difficult to understand how this supernatural ex-resort town has managed to evade interference from the outside world or even just the government.
02:21 (Whispers)
02:26 (Whispers)
02:29 With the timeline as we know it, the resort town as it was mentioned in Silent Hill 2,
02:34 was still functioning during the events of Silent Hill 1 while protagonist Harry Mason was in the seemingly abandoned town.
02:41 This has led to the popular theory that Silent Hill inhabits three separate planes of existence, which are all connected.
02:49 The top plane being the functioning resort town, which still has a cult existence in the shadows.
02:55 The middle plane being the fog world, where the majority of the games take place.
02:59 This is where our protagonists and side characters who have some form of guilt or connection to Silent Hill are drawn.
03:06 And finally, the hellish nightmare we encounter throughout the series, known as the Otherworld.
03:12 It's always been assumed that the fog world and the otherworld are two alternate versions of the town we move between,
03:17 but the addition of the top layer, the quote-unquote "normal" Silent Hill, helps to fill some of those plot holes.
03:25 (Silent Hill 2)
03:35 Alex is innocent.
03:37 One of the big plot twists of Alex's story in Silent Hill Homecoming is that, after some uncharacteristic bullying,
03:55 a tussle driven by Alex causes Josh to injure his head, fall in the lake and drown.
04:04 (Josh's head falls into the lake)
04:06 "Oh my god."
04:08 "Josh!"
04:11 Due to the fact that Silent Hill can create false memories and illusions,
04:15 a handful of players believe that these were not the real events that took place that night.
04:20 Alex's character inconsistencies during this cutscene, plus the lack of evidence throughout the rest of the game
04:26 to hint towards this version of Alex, makes it seem as though we were seeing falsified events.
04:32 Perhaps the strongest evidence comes in the form of the infamous Pyramid Head,
04:37 who is known to punish those weighed down by great sin.
04:41 Pyramid Head goes as far as to kill Alex's dad for his abusive parenting,
04:46 but never so much as looks at Alex the wrong way.
04:49 And the Pyramid Head don't lie.
04:51 Pro-Choice
05:02 "You will birth a god and build an eternal paradise."
05:07 Here is a common theory that has popped up all over the place.
05:11 The theme of maternity is heavy throughout Silent Hill 3.
05:14 Heather is told she carries the fetus of God within her, without her having done anything to make this happen,
05:20 and this disgusts her and fuels her desire to end the order.
05:24 At one point in the game, she encounters a ladder and says the infamous line that has created the most fuel for this theory,
05:31 "If only I had something long to snag it."
05:35 She then finds a coat hanger in a woman's clothing store, which she has to straighten out to pull the ladder.
05:40 Many believe that this sequence is a metaphor for abortion.
05:45 The theory isn't that crazy considering all of the symbolism seen throughout these games, but it is heavy.
05:51 Ernest
06:01 *Gasp*
06:03 Is somebody there?
06:05 In the underrated Silent Hill 2 Restless Dreams Born From A Wish scenario, playing as Mary,
06:11 the player encounters a voice through a door known as Ernest.
06:15 Not much is known about Ernest, but considering that almost all of the entities encountered throughout Silent Hill 2
06:21 are manifestations of James' brain as per the rules of Silent Hill,
06:25 many believe that this particular entity is more closely a piece of James' mind than the game lets up.
06:32 Ernest not only knows of Mary's murder, and that James is the murderer,
06:37 but the story of Ernest's past also seems to mirror James'
06:41 "Why she was holding that empty envelope which she, which she fell."
06:46 A few key pieces of evidence also suggest that it is Ernest who guides James through Silent Hill via notes and messages,
06:54 suggesting that he is the part of James' mind that holds the memories of Mary's murder,
06:59 and he is guiding himself to resolution.
07:03 The Order
07:05 Even though The Order, the cult that inhabits Silent Hill and the surrounding areas,
07:12 is given a major antagonistic part in almost all of the Silent Hill games,
07:17 there is a lot that isn't known about them and their history.
07:21 Origins Theory sheds some light on the mysterious beginnings of The Order.
07:25 Although the Silent Hill comics aren't canon, they have created the theory that long before Silent Hill was formed,
07:32 a malicious entity or demon served as a patron deity to the Native Americans in the area,
07:39 and once the settlers drove them off, the deity no longer received sacrifice,
07:43 and caused much of the famine and death seen up until The Order took over.
07:47 It's theorised that this entity influenced one or more of the founding members,
07:52 and became the "god" that The Order often refers to,
07:55 not as a figurative, unproven god, but a physical being existing on another plane,
08:01 much like Cthulhu.
08:03 Creepy stuff.
08:04 Lisa the Liar
08:10 In Silent Hill Origins, Lisa Garland expresses her deepest desire to protagonist Travis Grady,
08:17 to be an actress.
08:18 Perhaps she was a far better actress than we realised.
08:22 The Liar Theory suggests that throughout Silent Hill Origins,
08:26 Lisa was trying to drive Travis away from The Order to buy them time.
08:31 She did this by lying and saying Alissa was dead after the house fire,
08:35 even though we know from Silent Hill 1 that Lisa was in charge of caring for Alissa post house fire.
08:41 This is never revealed to be a lie, but it certainly doesn't coincide with the Silent Hill 1 story.
08:47 Other small pieces of evidence lead down the same rabbit hole.
08:51 But why would she be helping The Order?
08:54 The most popular theory?
08:56 Drugs.
08:57 We know Lisa is a PTV addict, and with the knowledge that The Order protects PTV dealers,
09:03 it's not hard to draw a line between Lisa and The Order.
09:07 Paranoia
09:13 This is the superintendent.
09:15 Are you in there Henry?
09:18 Here's an interesting theory developed by fans of Silent Hill 4.
09:22 Even though this one is more theoretical than tangible,
09:25 it's fun to play through with this theory in mind.
09:28 The paranoia theory suggests that at all times throughout Silent Hill,
09:33 our protagonist, who is seemingly more alone than previous playable characters,
09:37 is at all times being watched by somebody.
09:40 The line from Joseph Schreiber's of "I am always watching you in room 302"
09:46 has led players to believe that they are always being observed by the previous occupants ghost whenever they are in room 302.
09:53 For the rest of the game, when venturing outside the room,
09:56 the theory suggests that it is Walter Sullivan, who appears every so often to attack Henry,
10:01 who keeps a close eye on our protagonist.
10:04 Travis Grady is a serial killer
10:11 Possibly the most assured entry on our list,
10:17 the theory that Silent Hill Origins protagonist Travis Grady is actually a serial killer,
10:22 is as old as the game itself.
10:24 After his mother, suffering from psychotic delusion, tries to gas him as a child,
10:29 she is sent to a sanitarium.
10:31 Travis's father, on the other hand, hung himself in front of Travis.
10:36 15 years later, the game begins,
10:46 and we know absolutely nothing that took place during that 15 year window.
10:51 The theory suggests that Travis has dual personalities,
10:55 and during these 15 years, he was committing murder en masse.
10:59 Travis observes crime photos throughout Silent Hill and collects them,
11:03 possibly crimes he committed himself.
11:05 When he finds a shovel and observes it, he says "good for maiming bodies and burying them".
11:12 Yeesh.
11:13 And the most damning piece of evidence?
11:15 The bad ending where after being injected by an unknown liquid by the Order,
11:19 Travis sees flashes of the Butcher, as well as his own bloody hands,
11:24 suggesting that the Butcher may be another identity of Travis's.
11:28 Mary is in the trunk.
11:35 James Sunderland arrives in Silent Hill during Silent Hill 2,
11:43 with a letter from his deceased wife asking him to come to Silent Hill to find her.
11:48 It's one of the all time most interesting and engrossing openings in a video game.
11:53 As the story unfolds and as we reach our conclusion,
11:56 we learn that James actually murdered his wife on her deathbed in an act of mercy and selfishness.
12:04 In one of the endings, James drives his car into the lake and says "now we can be together".
12:10 This is an important line that many believe is open to interpretation,
12:14 especially after we know James took Mary's body somewhere after murdering her.
12:19 The theory is that immediately after killing Mary,
12:22 James stored her in the trunk of his car and immediately drove to Silent Hill.
12:28 This half day drive was where James fell deeper into his psychosis,
12:32 eventually creating this temporary amnesia,
12:35 and upon arriving in Silent Hill and leaving his car,
12:38 he unwillingly leaves Mary's body in the trunk.
12:41 The theory was somewhat challenged in 2012,
12:44 when game writer Misahiro Ito tweeted "The Mary's body is on the back seat of James' car,
12:51 not in the trunk if I remember correctly #SilentHill2".
12:55 This led many to believe that James' delusion and psychosis was so intense,
13:00 he blocked his visibly deceased wife out of his mind.
13:04 But many have also considered the idea that Misahiro was just trolling,
13:08 due to the phrasing of his tweet.
13:11 Whether she was in the boot or the back seat,
13:14 the theory is still bone chilling.
