00:00 While discussing the removal of the Mindanao from the Philippines,

00:03 which was funded by former President Duterte,

00:06 and some are advocating for the rights of Muslims,

00:09 there is no evidence to prove that Mindanao is independent.

00:15 In the aftermath of World Hijab Day,

00:19 we talked to some groups

00:22 advocating for the rights of Muslims in the country.

00:25 I'm already allergic.

00:26 I mean, we're already allergic.

00:27 It shouldn't be a word even that should be raised.

00:30 You know, sir, President, master of the contradictory language.

00:34 As for Lano Del Sur, Representative Zia, Alonto, and Yung,

00:38 Mindanao is composed of 27 provinces.

00:42 It's very diverse.

00:43 So, you'll see, there's no glamour.

00:46 Because if we talk about independence,

00:48 it should be a widespread goal.

00:50 And the initiative, perhaps,

00:53 would be coming from the grassroots.

00:55 The presence of our national government

00:58 in terms of services, infrastructure, and many others.

01:02 So, we don't see any indication or any condition

01:06 that would require for the people in Mindanao

01:09 to fight for an independence.

01:11 Duterte is mentioning a mechanism

01:13 under the United Nations

01:15 that can be used in the proposed removal.

01:19 But for some international law experts,

01:21 there is no mechanism in the United Nations

01:23 that would give a legal cessation

01:25 because this is a domestic issue.

01:28 There is no such process in the UN.

01:31 Cessation and creation of a new state are,

01:35 first of all, a political process

01:38 that first has to take place within the state.

01:40 Any group that goes to the UN

01:43 would have no legal personality in the first place

01:47 to seek such kind of an action from the UN.

01:51 One of the known secessionist movements,

01:53 the successful removal of Timor-Leste

01:56 from Indonesia in 2002

01:58 after it was occupied in 1975.

02:01 The autonomous region of Catalan

02:04 was separated from Spain in 2017.

02:06 The Constitutional Court of Spain declared it unconstitutional

02:11 so it lost its visa and was not allowed to continue.
