00:00 Off the start since the opening round which he won.
00:02 So that has to be job one for the Honda team.
00:05 Also on the gate in this one, the defending series champion,
00:08 the teammate of Plesinger on the Red Bull KTM,
00:10 say Sexton and Jason Anderson,
00:13 arguably the fastest rider here on the green number 21
00:16 last week in Anaheim, California.
00:18 But a late crash cost him a shot at the win.
00:21 But he's certainly capable of it.
00:22 And here you see Sexton, the 23-year-old,
00:25 on top of the sport, winning last year's title.
00:27 That's a sample of the talent of the gate.
00:29 Let's go racing!
00:31 And this time, Lawrence shoots out of the gate
00:35 into the number one spot with a hole shot.
00:38 Oh, but Anderson able to outjump him to the inside
00:42 and the green number 21 into the lead.
00:44 And how Jason Anderson took the lead from Jett Lawrence
00:48 as Jett Lawrence went too hard into the first corner.
00:51 He pushed to the outside,
00:52 wasn't able to do the proper rhythm through the rhythm lane,
00:56 and that allowed Jason to make the move into the lead.
00:58 And these two had a little drama and rivalry
01:01 after the race two weeks ago in San Diego.
01:04 It was this scenario.
01:05 Lawrence was not able to get around Anderson.
01:07 He didn't like the way Anderson rode.
01:09 He was not happy about it.
01:10 I want you guys to watch the two different riding styles
01:13 between the number 21 of Jason Anderson
01:15 and the number 18 of Jett Lawrence.
01:18 Jason Anderson hangs it out a little bit.
01:20 He rides a little more aggressively
01:22 where Jett Lawrence...
01:24 Oh, Lawrence trying to triple car, Michael.
01:26 He's on the inside!
01:27 And there you go, R.C., he takes the lead.
01:29 Yeah, what a clutch pass by Jett Lawrence.
01:31 Look at him looking over there, making sure to not see it.
01:34 Oh, Anderson back underneath in the whoops,
01:36 and he's going to draw alongside.
01:38 They almost touch on the roughest part of the racetrack.
01:40 A mistake by the 18.
01:42 Anderson around the outside will retake the lead.
01:45 Great racing.
01:46 And he'll stand him up in this corner.
01:48 Slow Lawrence down so he cannot counter.
01:50 Yeah, no, that is no harm, no foul right there
01:53 by Jason Anderson.
01:54 This is just good, hard racing.
01:56 You're going to see this here this afternoon
01:58 as these guys go for it to get into the main event.
02:01 They're going to race hard. This is a sprint race.
02:03 And they have brought the 94,
02:05 the popular rider out of Germany,
02:06 Ken Roxton with them, tripling, three jumps in one leap.
02:10 Once again, allows Lawrence to take the lead.
02:12 Well, this next two rhythm lanes
02:14 are going to be key for Jett Lawrence.
02:15 If he can maintain this gap,
02:18 it will not...
02:19 There will not present another opportunity
02:21 for Jason Anderson to get by.
02:24 And Jason Anderson and Ken Roxton,
02:27 who's in third, know that.
02:29 Let's send it down to Jason Thomas.
02:31 Well, Ricky, you touched on a really important thing there.
02:33 And the reason that Jett lost the lead
02:35 entering the whoops there is he gave
02:36 way too much room to Jason Anderson
02:38 thinking a block pass was coming.
02:40 You see the gap he's gained now.
02:42 He can take the lines he wants to choose
02:44 as we see Ken Roxton trying to make the same pass.
02:46 Yeah, JT, he's taking the lines he wants.
02:48 Roxton, the 29-year-old German,
02:50 oh, was not able to make the move on Anderson.
02:53 And Anderson does get the triple jumps
02:55 down through that rhythm lane, but it's too late.
02:57 Lawrence is gone and saying bye-bye.
02:59 Kenny Roxton, number 94,
03:02 right there on your screen on that yellow Suzuki,
03:04 working hard to get around Jason Anderson.
03:07 Which way will they go in the sand?
03:09 Roxton to the outside,
03:11 spun the tire a little bit.
03:12 Anderson holds on.
03:13 Yeah, Ken Roxton going inside, outside,
03:16 doing everything he can do to get by Jason Anderson.
03:19 It just shows you how fast these guys are.
03:22 It's incredibly difficult to get by these guys.
03:25 Rarely do they make a mistake
03:26 and open the door for you to get by.
03:29 And Anderson triples over those jumps
03:31 to get onto the start stretch here.
03:33 And let's see how they attack this combination.
03:35 Yeah, both riders doing the exact same combination.
03:38 To your point, Jason.
03:40 Chase Sexton on the number one
03:42 has caught this battle now.
03:43 So you're looking at Anderson.
03:45 Roxton looks over.
03:46 He knows it's Sexton behind him.
03:48 Great three-rider battle for the number two spot.
03:52 This is your first time tuning in
03:53 to Monster Energy Supercross.
03:55 One reason it's so important to do well
03:57 in these heat races is because that predicts
04:00 how your gate position and what gate pick you get
04:03 in the main event.
04:04 The better you do in these heat races,
04:06 the better gate position or better gate pick
04:09 you will have for that main event.
04:11 Yeah, so they do want to pass each other.
04:13 Anderson out of New Mexico with a 21.
04:15 The Monster Energy Kawasaki in green.
04:18 And a progressive X-Car Suzuki of Roxton.
04:21 Will has more of the 21.
04:23 Well, Jason Anderson, we've put him in the mix.
04:26 We talked about him as being a guy
04:28 who could perhaps be in contention
04:29 for this championship.
04:30 And talking to him yesterday before riding,
04:33 he said that's still the way he feels.
04:34 He's won his legacy to be there.
04:36 He's been there through sort of all the years
04:38 from Brian Villapoto here right through to racing Jet
04:43 and be there through all of that.
04:44 And I said, "Well, does that mean that that's enough
04:46 or do you want another championship?
04:48 Is that doable?"
04:49 He said, "Oh, yes, absolutely it is doable."
04:51 We've seen him, Ricky, you've talked about his riding
04:53 so far this year.
04:54 He's looking perhaps in a better,
04:56 as good a shape as he ever has.
04:59 Well, that Monster Energy Kawasaki team
05:01 worked really hard in the off-season
05:03 and that new platform of a motorcycle
05:05 that they had this year has really filled in the gaps.
05:09 And the problem areas that Jason Anderson had last year
05:13 have subsided and that bike is handling well.
05:16 And his results speak for themselves.
05:18 It looks like Roxon has caught Anderson again.
05:21 Jeremy Ham of the 56 was down and now back up.
05:24 Yes, Anderson says the corner entrance,
05:26 the miles per hour,
05:27 and maybe the slowest part of the corner,
05:29 much better on this new Kawasaki.
05:32 And he's comfortable pushing the edge,
05:33 which as you say, is the way he likes to ride on that limit.
05:36 That's right.
05:37 We were talking about when this heat race first got going,
05:40 the difference in riding styles
05:42 where Jason Anderson's a bit looser,
05:44 where a guy like Jet Lawrence is smoother.
05:49 He doesn't hang it out quite as much.
05:51 He doesn't look like he's trying.
05:52 Where you watch Jason Anderson,
05:54 it looks like he is going as hard as he can go, JT.
05:59 Well, when you look at Jason Anderson,
06:00 you think about 2022 and winning seven races,
06:03 and then you wonder, how did he not win a championship?
06:06 But if you look back at the beginning of that championship,
06:08 there were crashes, there were mistakes,
06:10 the triple crowns, he got into altercations
06:12 with other riders.
06:13 Not all that much different than what we've seen in 2024 thus far.
06:17 So I think it's going to take more than the riding.
06:19 He's got to avoid the crash like he had today too.
06:21 He's got to avoid the penalty like he had today too,
06:24 because you simply can't avoid to give away points
06:27 and still become champion in this 450 class in 2024.
06:29 Yes, JT. Last week, he should have finished the race in second,
06:33 but when he had an early crash,
06:34 he went around the loop section
06:36 and was penalized for doing that,
06:38 and it ultimately bumped him down to fourth.
06:40 As we go back to our leader, Jet Lawrence.
06:57 Donc prenez vos secondes, prenez vos troisièmes.
08:21 Cela montre combien important
