00:00 The Senate is now considering the issue of a 50 million peso fine and a heavier sentence
00:06 for those involved in game fixing or "defeating" the game.
00:10 There's a man who was asked to go home after being killed.
00:12 It's MAV Gonzalez.
00:14 The Senate was watched by a regional league
00:22 where the layup of a player is being doubted.
00:29 And the next few shots in a team's free throw.
00:32 There's no hearing but the court, the judges and players were invited
00:36 and we're trying to make a statement.
00:39 But some senators stopped us.
00:41 The fight is getting more and more intense.
00:44 Sometimes it becomes a mezzapopo of more violent crimes.
00:49 We hear of at least one case of attempted murder due to game fixing issues.
00:54 According to 2002 report of SportsRadar, a sports integrity firm,
01:00 the Philippines had 37 matches deemed suspicious.
01:05 We rank 7th in Asia behind China and above Thailand.
01:09 That's why the Senate is considering a 50 million peso fine for game fixing
01:16 along with life imprisonment and perpetual disqualification in the sport
01:22 if the member of the game fixing syndicate is proven guilty.
01:25 The heavy punishment is said to be severe according to the Games and Amusement Board.
01:29 The penalty is 1,000 to 10,000 pesos.
01:33 But it's really not a deterrent.
01:37 So with the proposed bill that's really in the millions
01:40 with perpetual ban from the practice of the profession
01:43 and even if it's a government official, it's a perpetual ban
01:46 from running or being appointed to office.
01:48 I think this will really become a deterrent.
01:52 As of 2021, 31 professional players have been suspended
01:57 due to allegations of game fixing,
01:59 including Rendel Senining, who was controversial
02:02 due to free throws used by the left and right hand in a Vismin Super Cup game.
02:07 But he was cleared from the allegation of selling the match after the investigation.
02:12 He explained that he was frustrated with the fact that the other team's match
02:16 was banned for life in the league.
02:19 We were just allowed to score.
02:22 I was frustrated.
02:23 After the first quarter, I think they only had one shoot.
02:26 And the player who was shooting at them
02:31 was kicked out and not allowed to return.
02:33 In the separate professional league,
02:36 47 coaches and players were indefinitely banned
02:39 due to the accusations of manipulating the game.
02:41 There were also doubts raised with some referees.
02:44 That's why Estrada asked them to pay a decent salary
02:48 so that they won't be forced to manipulate the game.
02:50 For now, they only receive Php2,000 to Php2,500 per game.
02:56 There is also a plan to use the confidential funds
02:59 of the Games and Amusement Board or GAB
03:01 to punish the syndicates behind the game fixing.
03:04 For GMA Integrated News,
