Lancashire's police and crime commissioner Andrew Snowden with an update after a year of Operation Warrior and the fight against organised crime
Transcript
00:00 Hi I'm Andrew Snowdon, Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner and I am
00:04 reflecting for this week's video on the last year of Operation Warrior. You've
00:09 probably heard of Operation Warrior if you follow the Lancashire Police on any
00:12 of the social medias or you've been following these regular videos that I do.
00:16 Op Warrior actually is about getting in quite a few of these, getting out there
00:21 and taking the fight to organise crime. It is about that real force wide
00:25 stepping up of taking the fight to those gang members, those criminal gangs that
00:30 operate in our county and cause misery. And we're trying to make sure that they
00:36 don't profit from it and that they're held to justice. Over 1,200 arrests in
00:43 the last 12 months. That's gang members arrested and off the streets and
00:48 hopefully going to prison where they belong if proven guilty. And that is also
00:53 happening because in the last year, 608 years, collective total is the number of
01:00 years organised crime gang members have been sentenced to prison by the work of
01:05 Lancashire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service. It's also resulted
01:10 in taking £1.3 million of their cash off them. That's been seized by the
01:17 police and will be spread between the Treasury nationally and then here in
01:20 Lancashire the money we get will be given back out to community
01:24 organisations to basically help prevent and deter crime in the future. A lot of
01:30 you talk to me about drug dealing and wanting to see more done about it. Well as
01:33 part of taking the fight to organise crime, nearly 300 kilograms of drugs
01:39 have been seized and over 17,000 cannabis plants seized and destroyed.
01:45 That's drugs off our streets, cash taken off criminals and criminals going behind
01:50 bars. So looking forward to the next 12 months, let's hope we see plenty more of
01:55 these out and about on Lancashire, on the way to raids, knocking doors through and
02:00 making sure that here in Lancashire, as part of my Fighting Crime Plan, we
02:04 relentlessly take the fight to criminal gangs.
