Former Cal star Marcus Semien prepares to help the Rangers defend their World Series crown.
Transcript
00:00 Marcus Semyon is about to begin a season unlike any he has experienced before.
00:07 He is the defending World Series champion.
00:09 There will be a lot of eyes on the Rangers going forward.
00:12 He apparently is fully healthy, heading into spring training.
00:15 The pitchers and catchers for the Rangers report on Wednesday,
00:19 and the full team shows up next Monday.
00:22 They've got some other people who are still on the mend a little bit in the offseason,
00:25 including a couple pitchers, including Corey Seager.
00:28 His infield double play mate.
00:32 But by all accounts, Semyon is ready to go.
00:36 He's coming off another terrific season where he finished third in the American League MVP voting.
00:42 It's probably merely a coincidence, but he's been third each of the past three odd-numbered years
00:49 in the MVP voting for the A's, the Blue Jays, and now the Rangers.
00:54 I'm sure he'd like to break that pattern and have another terrific season in an even-numbered year, 2024.
01:01 It'll be difficult for the Rangers to repeat.
01:04 This is always a tough thing.
01:06 Changes happen.
01:07 Other teams improve.
01:08 You lose a player or two.
01:10 You don't stay as fully healthy.
01:11 Semyon, to his credit, has largely been real healthy in recent years, played all 162 games last year.
01:18 I mean, who does that?
01:20 And so if he can stay healthy, he's on target to have another good year, and the Rangers are looking forward to it.
