Set to be transformative for business, there are concerns the new Western Sydney Airport will diminish the quality of life for many on the city's south-western outskirts. Wollondilly Council says the proposal will create a 24-hour flight paths over parts of the Shire. While councils in Inner Sydney say flight changes will only make noisy neighbourhoods even more noisy.

00:00 For those that live near Sydney's existing airport, the impact seems to go with the territory.
00:09 It's a fact of life living in Murrayfield.
00:11 The planes make noise.
00:14 But it's the realignment of some flights out of Kingsford Smith Airport to improve landing
00:18 and take off access for the new Western Sydney Airport that has some inner city councils
00:23 worried.
00:24 It seems as though the western part of the inner west will be impacted but we don't know
00:27 about how many properties, about how many flights there will be.
00:31 In Sydney's outer south west by 2055, large parts of the Wallandilly Shire can expect
00:35 to hear the impact of flights around 60 decibels.
00:39 With no curfew in place, they will continue through the day and night.
00:44 It's manifestly unfair.
00:45 If it's good enough for the eastern suburbs, then it's good enough for the western suburbs
00:49 and Wallandilly.
00:50 We should be under the same curfew regime they are.
00:54 Residents here say they're impacted by another double standard.
00:57 They don't qualify for noise insulation and state planning rules for living under a flight
01:02 path mean they can't build secondary dwellings like granny flats.
01:06 You can't have it both ways.
01:07 It's completely unreasonable and it needs to be fixed.
01:12 The NSW Government has said it's prepared to remove restrictions if they're no longer
01:16 necessary.
01:17 The federal government concedes the proposal will expose communities to additional noise
01:21 but says considerable efforts have been made to avoid residential areas.
01:25 It says it's now working through more than 8,000 submissions.
