Singapore Airlines announced as first international carrier to operate to Western Sydney Airport

Singapore Airlines will launch direct flights to the new Western Sydney Airport. It's the first international carrier to commit to the $5.3 billion project, which is slated to open in 2026.

00:00It is a very significant announcement today because despite having international in its
00:06name, the Western Sydney International Airport had only been confirmed to be able to fly
00:10Qantas and Jetstar domestic routes around Australia until now.
00:15The addition of Singapore Airlines as a carrier today will mean that when the airport opens
00:19in late 2026, it will be able to charter flights internationally.
00:24Speaking today on the newly constructed runway, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese spoke of how
00:29the addition of Singapore Airlines will allow for flight destinations across the world including
00:33Asia, Europe, the UK and the USA to operate out of Sydney, Western Sydney International
00:39Airport.

00:42It will connect Western Sydney with the world and it will boost jobs, investment and opportunities
00:49right here in Western Sydney.
00:51What we're seeing is for the first time, Sydney rather than looking inward to the east towards
00:57the CBD and towards the harbour, looking west to where most Sydneysiders live.
01:04And that is why this is such an important piece of infrastructure.
01:13The airport is scheduled to operate around 10 million customers annually once it opens
01:19in late 2026 and is around 85% complete as of now.
