00:00 A 12-meter-long "fire dragon" will parade the streets near the town center in Batu Gajah
00:07 to enhance the Chinese New Year atmosphere.
00:10 Organized by the Sam Wong Kong Temple, the dragon will be filled with burning joss sticks
00:14 from head to tail and paraded in a 500-meter-long procession on February 24.
00:20 Temple Chairman Chia Chee Keong mentioned that the parade is part of the seven-day "Heavenly
00:25 Gate Soaring Dragon Spiritual Event," which started on Sunday to celebrate the Jade Emperor
00:29' birthday on the ninth day of the Chinese New Year.
00:33 Given that this year is the Year of the Dragon, the temple committee deemed it fitting to
00:37 include a dragon in the festivities.
00:40 Chia explained that approximately 30 individuals will take turns carrying the dragon during
00:45 the parade, laden with thousands of joss sticks, which will be snuffed out and taken home by
00:50 devotees for luck after the parade concludes.
00:54 The dragon will then be ignited and danced with, symbolizing the dispelling of inauspicious
00:59 energies.
01:01 The spiritual event, primarily for devotees to seek blessings and overcome challenges,
01:06 is being held at the temple for the second time.
01:09 Another noteworthy activity during the event is the illumination of "seven-star spiritual
01:15 lamps" arranged in a bagua formation.
01:18 Chia noted that this ritual, popular in Taiwan for blessings and enhancing wealth luck, is
01:23 uncommon in Malaysia.
01:26 Contributions made to light the lamps through the temple's Facebook page have been received
01:30 from various countries, including Canada, Indonesia, China, the United States and the
01:36 United Kingdom.
01:38 A portion of the event's proceeds will be directed to the Pertubuhan Mempertinggi Akhlaq
01:43 Chanmenkor Dialysis Center in Ipoh.
01:46 Chia said they aim to raise around R100,000 to acquire two dialysis machines, and should
01:52 the funds surpass the targeted amount, they will be utilized to purchase medications for
01:57 kidney patients at the center.
