00:02 Just days after King Charles was discharged from a hospital,
00:07 Buckingham Palace reveals he's been diagnosed with cancer.
00:11 There is always the what if.
00:13 He's in his 70s, he's 75 now, he's not a young man.
00:16 He is, however, incredibly fit and robust,
00:19 but there is always a backup plan in place.
00:21 The royal family is running on a pretty skeletal staff
00:24 at the moment, and I think it does look at the moment
00:27 a little bit vulnerable.
00:29 The palace shared in a statement Monday,
00:31 "During the king's recent hospital procedure
00:33 "for benign prostate enlargement,
00:35 "a separate issue of concern was noted.
00:37 "Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified
00:39 "a form of cancer."
00:41 The palace adds the 75-year-old monarch
00:43 has already started a schedule of regular treatments,
00:46 and he's been advised by doctors to postpone public duties.
00:49 The type of cancer has not been revealed.
00:52 It's very unusual for the palace
00:53 to give such a detailed account of any procedure
00:56 that a member of the royal family is going through,
00:58 and I think particularly when it comes
01:00 to something very personal.
01:01 While King Charles dealt with his health scare last month,
01:04 Prince William also stepped back from royal duties
01:07 to care for his wife, Kate Middleton,
01:09 who was hospitalized at the same time as the king
01:11 to undergo abdominal surgery.
01:13 It's extraordinary to have two senior members
01:15 of the royal family, not just in hospital at the same time,
01:18 but at the same hospital.
01:20 As his father undergoes treatment,
01:22 a source tells ET, the Prince of Wales
01:24 will return to work this week, as Kate already returned home.
01:28 As for what Charles' diagnosis means for Prince Harry,
01:31 our source says the Duke of Sussex spoke to his father
01:34 about his medical condition.
01:35 King Charles told all his siblings and children personally
01:38 about the cancer diagnosis.
01:39 ET has learned Harry's expected to travel
01:42 in the coming days to see his father in London.
01:44 It's unclear if his wife, Meghan Markle,
