00:00 Expedia travel expert Tameka Jones is here with some of the hottest travel
00:03 trends and essential tips for navigating your spring break planning. Tameka, we
00:09 listen, we're very much on the same page. I'm so psyched you're here and I think a
00:13 lot of people are gonna have a lot of fun with this interview.
00:15 Thank you for having me. I mean the season, spring, starts a month from today so spring breakers are
00:23 planning to travel. Flights and rent-a-car bookings are up compared to
00:27 this time last year. Travelers are searching for more flights to places
00:31 like Dallas and Austin according to Expedia. Now one of the main reasons for
00:36 an increase in travel this spring is the solar eclipse which takes place on
00:40 April 8th. It's happening during what is usually the busiest travel week in the
00:45 spring so if you haven't booked your hotel yet search solar eclipse 2024 in
00:49 the Expedia app to find out what hotels are still available. Okay such a
00:55 great point. Listen we've been talking about the eclipse for a little while
00:57 here and I didn't even think about it in terms of booking a hotel or a flight.
01:00 Such a great point we're getting so close here. Now listen travelers are
01:05 gonna want to pay attention to our forecast obviously when they're
01:08 traveling but maybe there's something you can tell us here about the flight
01:11 forecast looking forward. First week of April you can expect a surge in flight
01:18 prices and likely crowded airports but if you wait until the first week of
01:23 March or last week in April you might save on flights and experience shorter
01:27 TSA lives and less crowds at airports. Now remember one thing it's ideal to
01:32 book a month in advance to save like 20% or more on flights. 20% or more? Oh my gosh
01:40 that's a pretty big number. Okay I was about to ask you about like the most and
01:43 least affordable times but that sounds like a pretty solid bet there that one
01:47 month time frame. Absolutely absolutely you can save. We like a savings right?
01:54 Love a savings. I love a good bargain especially when it comes to a trip
01:57 because I mean that's a little extra money that you can spend once you get to
02:01 your destination. On that note can you tell us some more I know you mentioned
02:04 Dallas and Austin but some more popular destinations for travelers this year
02:07 anything that stands out to you?
02:12 Orlando, Cancun, Punta Cana they're seeing double-digit increases this year but
02:18 even international travel is on the rise to places like Tokyo and Paris. It's the
02:23 second year in a row for Tokyo so travelers are loving cherry blossoms
02:27 there. Okay that is so cool and I have to say that Brie is standing right over
02:31 here on the side of the screen she and I joke all the time except it's not really
02:34 a joke that we're gonna go find a bunch of international trips so it looks like
02:37 you just added Tokyo to our list. Any other hot spots you think people need to
02:41 keep in mind as we look forward? You like coal but I will say booking your trips
02:49 anywhere to destinations packages like flights hotels and rental cars work to
02:55 save because we talked about the savings and if you just need a hotel sometimes
03:00 it's good to look for places or things like free cancellation or reserve now
03:05 pay later. I love this option in the Expedia app and also morning flights I
03:11 know some people aren't morning risers I may not be but again I enjoy saving and
03:16 also reducing the risk of my flight being canceled so there's a travel tax
03:20 report out there that says if you book morning flights and you are likely it's
03:25 less likely that the flight will be canceled compared to booking flights
03:28 after 3 p.m. so you know those are things that just can help make travel a little
03:33 more smoother but again if you want to go anywhere quite honestly. I can't help
03:37 but giggle a little bit because Bernie Rayno my partner in the morning I can
03:40 feel the smile and the I told you so attitude radiating off him he says all
03:45 the time that a morning flight is what you have to do to make sure your flight
03:48 goes off so you know what I'm sure you just made him and all the other morning
03:53 folks very happy. Tameka Jones thank you so much for joining us this morning what
03:56 a fun interview we appreciate being here.
