00:00 All right, spring is here and travelers have already started packing the airports and hitting the roads for spring break
00:07 But how busy is the upcoming travel season?
00:11 Expected Ike's a DS spokesperson with triple-a joins us to discuss. Thank you so much for joining us
00:17 Good morning, Bri. I am with you. I'm looking at that clear water shot and I'm like, I want to be there exactly
00:23 I was just in Miami this past weekend a lot of spring breakers were there and I'm like channeling that energy
00:29 Let's get right down to it. Where are we're three months into the year and the travel season is just getting underway
00:36 How does this year compare to years past spring breakers are on the move? Where are they going this year?
00:41 Yeah, so Florida is the number one destination
00:45 That's what triple-a has found a time and time again
00:47 And it's no surprise Florida has the beaches the theme parks in Central, Florida and cruise ports
00:53 So it has a little bit of everything but a lot of people also want to go to historic cities
00:56 So whether it's Boston or New York City to see some of the attractions and and tourist destinations there
01:02 Those are popular warm weather destinations are obviously popular. So Hawaii is high on the list Phoenix
01:08 Anywhere where people can sort of get away and unwind for spring break, but travel continues to rise post pandemic
01:15 Triple-a has seen this ever since 2020 that each year post 2020 travel continues to increase free
01:22 Well and speaking of travel the different ways that people travel
01:26 Have you seen an uptick or people were traditionally flying or driving to their destinations our cruises?
01:32 Becoming more of a thing. Are they on the rise with booking those?
01:35 Can you speak to any emerging travel trends or destinations that travelers would go cruise wise?
01:40 Yeah, so most people do drive to their to their destinations
01:44 It depends obviously where they're going if they're going somewhere far away, then they all have to fly to get there
01:50 International trips are also on the rise for spring break
01:52 So obviously those folks have to take flights
01:54 But cruising is up and that is one of the numbers that triple-a is really interested in this year because we've seen an increase
02:00 Not only in spring break cruises, but also in cruises leaving out of South Florida
02:05 So Miami and Fort Lauderdale cruises are up 60% compared to last spring break
02:10 So what that tells us is that a lot of people want to get on these ships and want to get to some warmer weather
02:16 Royal Caribbean just debuted its largest ship ever icon of the seas and that leaves out of South Florida
02:21 So that's been a big reason why many people want to go cruising
02:24 But cruising is just it's continued to stay hot post pandemic
02:28 That was one of the last industries that was able to come back online after the pandemic and people are definitely
02:33 Booking ships and they're booking earlier and earlier. So ships are selling out faster free. Okay, and we are very like-minded
02:40 I think we should just book a cruise right now. Let's go to somewhere warmer last question for you
02:46 I know the big thing on people's minds is the solar eclipse. How has the travel?
02:53 Industry been in these last few weeks. What should people do any advice?
02:57 Yeah, people are planning for this April 8th
03:00 So we're three weeks away just shy of three weeks away Monday
03:02 April 8th is the total solar eclipse the path of totality runs from Texas all the way up to New England
03:08 so parts of the Midwest are also going to be in the path a triple-a booking data is showing that Dallas and
03:13 Antonio and Austin are the top cities to see the eclipse
03:16 But also Indianapolis Cleveland and Buffalo are popular if you're driving to an eclipse city
03:22 Just keep this in mind have your eclipse glasses, but don't drive with them on make sure you pull over somewhere safe
03:28 Not on the side of the road
03:29 But pick a spot that is safe to watch the eclipse and also keep this in mind
03:33 So many people go to these cities along the path of totality traffic following an eclipse is very bad very congested
03:41 So keep that in mind
03:42 Can you stay with a family or friend who lives in these areas where you can just walk back to your?
03:47 To your place where you're staying after the eclipse because you might be sitting in traffic for a long time
03:52 Hertz is our rental car partner and it says that it has seen a
03:56 3,000% increase in advanced bookings for people for that Saturday ahead of the eclipse compared to last year
04:03 So that means a lot of people are renting cars and a lot of people are gonna be driving to see the eclipse
04:07 Wow, great advice there. Thank you so much. Ike's a Diaz media relations manager for triple-a. Thank you again for joining us this morning
04:15 Yeah
