Michael Vaughan recalls training at Sheffield Wednesday with Chris Waddle
Transcript
00:00 I know Ernst is in the car, he's in the ledge, but he's my hero actually, Wads.
00:04 When I was growing up trying to be a cricketer, Mum and Dad used to always say to me, "Oh, you sure you want to be a cricketer?"
00:11 I said, "I actually want to be Chris Waddle."
00:13 So he is a hero.
00:15 I actually trained at Wednesday when Wads was reserve team.
00:18 I always remember one of the days, Richie Ulf is, I think he's in the room, he got me down to train with you, Wads.
00:25 And I always remember getting in the dressing room, and you were very kind to me.
00:28 I used to have my kit on there, on the pegs.
00:31 I always remember getting into the dressing room and getting my kit on.
00:34 To my right was always Paolo Di Canio. Paolo Di Canio, look over here, who the f*** are you?
00:40 So I get my kit on, and I always remember the first day, Peter Shreves gets the job at Wednesday.
00:44 And there's that little shed at the training ground where you're going to have a brew.
00:49 And the first day, Shreves arrives, and I'm there in the shed having a cup of tea with some of the lads.
00:54 And then he walks down, and he goes "Morning, morning, morning."
00:58 And he gets to me and goes "F*** yeah, we're not that bad, are we?"
01:02 Yeah, it's hardly a good laugh, Dan.
01:04 What he forgets to say is, I was doing the reserves at the time, and we did some drills and that.
01:11 And he joined in, and he wasn't out of place, by the way.
01:14 And there were a lot of young lads, and then we finished off by shooting a goal, obviously.
01:21 And if you missed, you were out.
01:24 And I'm not blowing smoke, but he did win it.
01:27 Which gave me a great chance to absolutely slag the day.
01:31 We'll do it that tough, Dan.
