Sheffield Wednesday are a club in crisis

00:00 Alex Miller and Joe Cran here from the Sheffield Star reflecting on another 3-0 defeat, another
00:06 hapless performance and more misery around Sheffield Wednesday in what has been a, I
00:12 think we're in the territory of dreadful start to the season, I think we've been there for
00:15 a little while Joe?
00:16 It's been a dreadful day, just the way this morning started with the statement and everything
00:21 but yeah it has been a dreadful start to the season, I mean it's the, I think now the joint
00:26 worst championship start of any season ever.
00:30 It's the first time I've heard that, it's yeah fairly miserable. This isn't going to
00:36 be the most life affirming and joyful video so if you are going to turn off I suggest
00:40 you do that now. Again it's not the first time I've said this this season, I'm sort
00:45 of loathe to talk about the football because it would be a repeat of conversations that
00:50 we've had so many times already this season. Let's talk about that statement, what it means
00:53 for Sheffield Wednesday and the effect that it's had on an already fairly angry mood amongst
00:59 supporters.
01:00 Yeah it feels like it's driven a massive wedge between, you know, into a gap that was already
01:06 widening and there's a lot to pick apart in there, there's a lot that sort of was in the
01:12 statement that you can go through and you know calling the fans selfish when they turn
01:17 out week in week out, homing away up and down the country is, you know, there's a few things
01:23 that you could criticise Wednesday fans for, being selfish is not one of them and I just
01:27 think that the way the statement came out, we've sort of spoke about it earlier, it does,
01:33 it feels a little bit like, maybe I'm being overly dramatic because I'm in the middle
01:38 of the game, it feels like a bit of a declaration of war sort of.
01:42 It's one of the phrases that I've used today and I think you're right, look, the position
01:46 that we're in it's very important that we're not over inflammatory but at the same time
01:53 those words have been chosen by the chairman and I think you're right, I think they say
01:59 certain things about, lines in the sand perhaps would be a less inflammatory way but yeah,
02:10 talking about withdrawing funding on certain conditions is not the behaviour of a diplomat.
02:17 It's really worrying as well because I think that it was, because of the way it was left
02:22 quite ambiguous, it did feel, perhaps to the minute, yeah, it did feel like Wednesday fans
02:29 are now going, hang on a second, does that mean we won't be able to function as a football
02:35 club?
02:36 And because it was a statement and there was no follow-ups and that kind of thing, it just
02:39 kind of was put out and left.
02:41 So there was a lot of Wednesday fans who are very, very concerned, not just about the current
02:46 regime but about the future of Sheffield Wednesday and I think the chants tonight were as loud
02:53 as we've heard and I can't imagine them getting any quieter as the weeks go by.
02:59 There'll be plenty more in the coming days on thestyle.co.uk about that statement and
03:03 where Sheffield Wednesday stand off the pitch, on the pitch as we've said, fairly miserable
03:09 as it has been for a little while now and the chants against Cisco again were louder
03:16 than ever.
03:17 Wednesday were two down within eight minutes, it was just a perfect storm of misery really,
03:22 wasn't it?
03:23 Yeah and very avoidable as well.
03:24 You know, look, Sunderland were good tonight, I think it is important, Sunderland have a
03:29 good side with some very good players and it feels like they've created a bit of a,
03:37 they've almost done it perfectly, the way they went up to the Championship and the way
03:40 they've kicked on in the Championship has been great.
03:42 But the first goal, just the most basic of set pieces, you've left one of the biggest
03:48 men on the pitch with a free header in the box, the second goal, Jack Clarke, he's been
03:54 an absolute nightmare for Sheffield Wednesday in recent years and you let him run at you
03:58 like they did and then obviously the third one's a penalty and it's just clumsy.
04:05 All three of the goals, as good as Sunderland were on the ball, all three felt very, very
04:10 avoidable and it was interesting listening to Sisco have to be gay, wasn't it?
04:14 Because he spoke about a lack of maturity and not being able to handle the pressures
04:19 of it all and it's, we need a lot longer than this video's got to talk about that kind of
04:27 thing, you know, there's I think four players from last season that were starting today,
04:31 it's an entirely new group and yeah, it felt like Wednesday once again, as we saw at Swansea,
04:38 when he went one-nil down, he fell to pieces and the same thing happened today.
04:43 We bring you this message of joy from the bowels of the South Stand, of course throughout
04:49 the coming days and into the week we will bring you a reaction to this one, there's
04:54 West Bromwich Albion away on Tuesday night and then heading into Huddersfield Town, you
05:00 have a manager that some of you may well recognise.
05:04 First on the West Brom, gave me an answer about the worst start to a season, if they
05:09 don't beat West Brom that is officially Wednesday's worst ever start to a season, so there's some
05:14 joy for your weekend.
05:16 Something to look forward to, yeah, for now keep it locked as ever to thestart.co.uk.
