00:00 >> I'm sure you saw the shot chart already against Texas A&M, but
00:03 what does it mean every shot kind of came either from two feet out or
00:06 from beyond the three point line?
00:08 You mentioned with hitting your peak, how have you seen that kind of improve with
00:11 players taking less of those low percentage mid ranges and
00:14 sticking with the shots that you like to see?
00:16 >> Yeah, I didn't actually see it.
00:19 I remember one long to right so
00:21 hit that one with his foot on the line which is a little frustrating.
00:24 So we must have every shot except that one was either like in the paint or
00:28 outside three.
00:30 Perfect, right?
00:31 For all you analytics guys when we did our math lesson in here,
00:34 that's how it's supposed to look.
00:36 So look, some guys come in playing and
00:39 every guy that transfers in comes in a much different system.
00:43 There's not that many teams in college playing like we play.
00:48 So it's not just telling them,
00:51 it's them seeing how you generate these types of shots.
00:58 Cuz before, a lot of college systems guy beats his man,
01:01 there's a post player right there.
01:03 But you kind of have to pull up and shoot a long too cuz you can't get to the rim.
01:06 With us, we don't have guys in the way you can get to the rim.
01:10 So it's them getting comfortable playing in the system.
01:13 And look, people always say, you don't allow your guys to shoot mid range.
01:19 That's not true.
01:20 We do, cuz if you come and watch us practice in the summer,
01:24 there's a lot more mid range being shot.
01:25 We allow them to shoot them.
01:27 Just every few weeks, I pull the guys in, go through their shot reports,
01:33 where your most efficient shots coming from, all right?
01:36 When you shoot, we're getting a 1.1.
01:39 If you took a lot less, Brandon Miller, for instance, I think in the summer and
01:45 the fall was like at 34.5% of his shots were from non rim tubes.
01:52 Well, by the time he got to conference play last year, only 12,
01:56 I think 12.8% or whatever, 12% of his shots were non rim too.
02:01 So he had to learn how to play in the system, what's more efficient.
02:05 And he made his game way more efficient.
02:08 Now, he's taken a few more, probably non rim twos in the NBA.
02:14 I mean, you got a shorter shot clock,
02:15 you end up having to take some tough shots at the league.
02:17 But I think we looked a couple years ago, every NBA team, but
02:22 I think maybe 280% of their shots had come from three and in the lane.
02:27 So I mean, every NBA team's got an analytics department that's talking to
02:33 the coaching staff and they're trying to figure out how to play the most efficient
02:35 way, we're trying to figure out how to play the most efficient way.
02:38 That shot chart against A&M was, I don't have it in front of me.
02:42 Well, you guys remember what our points per possession were in the A&M game?
02:48 I think it was close, like a 137 if I remember right,
02:51 off the top of my head, but close to a 14, which is very high.
02:56 And they're typically a pretty good defensive team.
03:00 So to have that efficient of an offense against a decent defensive team,
03:05 you've got to have the right types of shots being taken.
03:08 So hopefully we see a lot more shot charts like that,
03:12 that look like that, just no long twos from Aaron.
03:17 It seems like Aaron and
03:18 Shrelly seem to have their foot on the lines a little bit more than some of
03:21 the rest of the guys.
03:21 They're probably the two guys that didn't play in our system that play the most
03:25 minutes, cuz Rylan and Mark played here last year.
03:31 We don't shoot, we definitely don't take shots with our feet on the line,
03:35 that's for sure.
03:36 So, all right, another math lesson.
03:39 Once a week, we'll get a math lesson in.
