00:00 Good news for those who are budgeting, you can buy cheaper well-milled rice in the coming days.
00:06 Witness, Bernadette Reyes.
00:08 3 kilos of rice is what the Odyana family eats every day, which has 7 members.
00:17 If you include the food, it's less than 500 pesos per day.
00:21 It's very hard, especially if there's a lot of rice in the house.
00:24 And rice is very expensive.
00:27 According to the GMA Integrated News Research from the Philippine Statistics Authority,
00:32 21 out of 34 agricultural products were exported in the first half of February compared to January.
00:41 The highest was 24 pesos per kilo of tomatoes.
00:45 Rice, beef, garlic, and calamansi were also exported.
00:48 The reason is the group Sinag.
00:51 Last time, a lot of rice was planted in the field between December and January.
00:57 Now, it's reduced.
00:59 But we think that by March, the price will be lower.
01:03 The Department of Agriculture said that the price of rice is not high,
01:07 except for tomatoes due to the lack of supply.
01:10 Although there is El Niño, there are places affected by the rain.
01:13 And then here in Nueva Ecija, there is a reduction of the area planted with tomatoes.
01:18 And the expensive rice may also become cheaper, like in the world market.
01:23 In the price of Sinag, even if the price of rice reaches 58 pesos per kilo,
01:27 47 to 48 pesos of well-milled rice can be bought.
01:32 The price of the Department of Agriculture is 44 to 46 pesos.
01:37 Onions, sugar, and oil became cheaper.
01:40 Here in the Kadiwa Market in Quezon City, red onions are sold for 50 pesos per kilo.
01:46 White onions are sold for 35 pesos per kilo.
01:50 But according to the group Samahang Industrial and Agricultural,
01:53 the price of onions can go down to 10 to 15 pesos per kilo.
01:59 According to the DA, the number of onions planted increased
02:02 when the price of onions went up, so the supply increased.
02:06 If there are market linkages, it can tie up with our Kadiwa.
02:11 And hopefully, it will tie up with our other markets in Southern Tagalog.
02:18 But according to the Sinag group, the smuggled onions are affected.
02:23 We saw that there was an entry that there is no SPSIC.
02:27 They should catch the kick of the onions by March.
02:31 So we are really afraid that the kick will go down to 10 to 15 pesos per kilo.
02:38 It should go back to 30 pesos to 33 pesos so that the farmers can earn a little.
