Instant Analysis: No. 17 Alabama Baseball Beats Alabama State 12-0.
Transcript
00:00 I am Will Miller here with Kim Rankin for BamaCentral.com's instant analysis at
00:04 Sewell Thomas Stadium once again for the second runnable victory of the season
00:08 for the Alabama Crimson Tide. 12 to nothing over the Alabama State Hornets
00:11 in the first of two meetings between these teams this season. Game could have
00:15 gone in a different direction based on the early innings but it turned into
00:17 another dominating shutout, a complete team performance. Kim, what were some of
00:21 your thoughts? Yeah, absolutely. I mean you kind of said it just there. I mean it
00:24 looked like it was going to be a pitcher's duel for about the first half
00:26 of the game and then you know Alabama had two monster innings on the offensive
00:30 side. They had a seven run inning in the fourth and another five run inning in the
00:33 fifth to give them those 12 runs. But I thought you know freshman left-handed
00:37 pitcher Zane Adams who started for the Crimson Tide today looked really good. He
00:40 went four innings. It was his first collegiate start but not his debut. He did one
00:45 inning of relief work on Saturday against Manhattan College but I thought
00:48 he looked good as a whole. Went about four innings and then you had Matthew
00:51 Heiberger, Pierce George, and Jansen Kenty all coming for relief today with
00:55 really only allowing three hits and walking four and that was it. You had no
01:00 runs, nothing else on the board. So very very impressive by them and also not
01:04 only was this just a shutout but this was the third shutout in five games of
01:08 the season so far. So a very impressive February for the Alabama pitching staff.
01:13 What about the, what did you see from the backs? Well it has been the TJ McCann
01:16 show. Anybody that's been anywhere near this ballpark's got to understand the
01:19 Ole Miss transfer has put together a run not only of great power but just
01:24 professional hitting and now he's up to three home runs, 13 ribbies in five games.
01:28 These are incredible marks and this is as good of a start as he could have
01:34 hoped for. He's been batting in the two-hole every game thus far and he's
01:38 getting on base. He's sending them home even when he doesn't hit home runs. He
01:41 also had a prolific opening weekend. It's not like he's just come out of nowhere
01:44 over the past two days for these midweeks. Bryce Edlin was good again. He
01:49 sent home a couple of more runs after breaking out for his first hit and then a
01:52 home run last night against Middle Tennessee. The offense seems to be
01:56 finding it. Coach Vaughn has said early in the season it's always a work in
01:59 progress and that's baseball sometimes but double digit hits as well. Like I
02:03 said, complete team performance. The offense is firing on all cylinders right now.
02:08 Yeah, absolutely. I mean just just about as good of a start I think we keep
02:12 saying every game but really just as good of a start as you can get for this
02:14 Alabama baseball team especially after they lost so much in this offseason and
02:19 not really knowing what you were gonna do with a bunch of transfers and a bunch
02:21 of freshmen and a bunch of new people coming in. So absolutely phenomenal. We'll
02:25 see how they do this weekend but thanks for watching Constant Analysis here on
02:28 VEVA Central.
