00:00 Hi, I'm Mark Dunford and I'm here with today's Sussex World Daily Bulletin on Thursday, February 22nd 2024.
00:08 A Yellow Weather Warning for wind has been issued in Sussex and Surrey today.
00:12 The Met Office's alert which runs from 8am to 6pm has warned that there is a small chance of disruption from strong winds.
00:19 People have been warned there is a small chance of some damage to buildings, power cuts, injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown and flying debris.
00:28 The Met Office said a band of heavy, squally rain is expected to move eastwards across England on Thursday, with gusts of around 50mph in a few places very briefly, as well as some hail and thunder.
00:40 However, there is a small chance of broader swathes of very strong winds affecting southern and eastern England with gusts of 60-70mph, most likely close to English Channel and the southern North Sea coast, the weather experts added.
00:54 People were evacuated from their homes after reports of a suspicious item being found in Breckelsham Bay, West Sussex.
01:04 It was reported that homes on Beach Avenue and Garden Avenue were evacuated by police officers and a number of neighbouring roads were blocked on Wednesday.
01:13 A spokesperson for Sussex Police said "A warrant was carried out at Breckelsham Close, Breckelsham Bay this morning and a 47-year-old man from Sussex was arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred. He remains in police custody at this time."
01:26 During a search of property, officers found an item of concern. As a result, the Explosive Ordnance Unit, the EOD, was called and a cordon was put in place.
01:36 They have assessed the item and have confirmed it poses no risk to the public. Thank you to the public for their patience while this assessment was carried out.
01:44 A landslip in Hastings has led to a large section of a footpath being cordoned off.
01:50 Hastings Borough Council said the incident took place on Old Royal Gill at the side of St Helens Road.
01:56 Safety barriers have been placed around the affected area, the council said on ex-formerly Twitter.
02:01 On Thursday February 15th, Hastings Borough Council was notified of a landslip on Old Royal Gill.
02:07 The council and other agencies have all attended the site and following a structural assessment, the homes backing onto the rear of the Gill have been deemed stable.
