00:00:02 - Welcome to this live broadcast of Telusar English
00:00:08 and join us as we go live to St. Lucia
00:00:10 where celebrations for the country's 45th anniversary
00:00:14 of its independence are taking place.
00:00:16 Let's see.
00:00:17 - As much information as we can share with you
00:00:22 so you can have a full appreciation
00:00:24 of what is happening here at the Supreme Mini Stadium.
00:00:28 Of course, a special good morning
00:00:30 to Honorable Emma Hippolyte.
00:00:33 We are in her constituency.
00:00:35 We took the scenic route down
00:00:39 and it's obvious that Soufrière is in a class of its own
00:00:43 when it comes to natural attraction and just beauty.
00:00:48 Okay, so we are here in Soufrière.
00:00:53 This is the first, this is the first,
00:00:56 that first time that a town
00:01:01 or a location outside of the capital
00:01:05 is hosting the military parade
00:01:08 amongst other independence activities.
00:01:11 So that was a very innovative move
00:01:14 and of course, a change of location,
00:01:17 a change of scenery is always a wonderful thing
00:01:22 as it makes all St. Lucians feel involved
00:01:26 and included.
00:01:27 (shouting)
00:01:34 the military parade.
00:01:36 (shouting)
00:01:39 parade to the left, left, left.
00:01:42 (shouting)
00:01:44 (shouting)
00:01:46 (shouting)
00:01:49 (shouting)
00:02:05 (shouting)
00:02:11 Follow the officers going to the parade.
00:02:13 (shouting)
00:02:15 Follow the officers going to the platoon.
00:02:17 Pan to your right, to your left, sorry.
00:02:19 To your left.
00:02:20 At the moment on parade,
00:02:23 the officers are joining the platoons.
00:02:27 We have nine armed units on parade this morning
00:02:33 and five unarmed units this morning on parade as well.
00:02:40 The police band is already in position
00:02:45 and the drummers are pretty much assisting
00:02:48 with the officers' march on.
00:03:10 In a while, we will have the arrival
00:03:15 of the Prime Minister of St. Lucia
00:03:20 and followed by the arrival of the Governor General
00:03:26 of St. Lucia.
00:03:27 (chattering)
00:03:30 Once again, a warm welcome to the Honorable President
00:03:47 of Guyana, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Aifanali,
00:03:54 President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
00:03:58 He addressed the House of Assembly yesterday,
00:04:01 Wednesday 21st,
00:04:02 bringing a message of unity, of regional cohesiveness
00:04:12 and nationhood to St. Lucia from Guyana
00:04:18 and I recall notably his point
00:04:21 that the prosperity of Guyana should be the prosperity
00:04:27 of the region.
00:04:28 I thought that was a very generous statement
00:04:31 that the President of Guyana made yesterday.
00:04:35 (chattering)
00:04:37 (chattering)
00:04:40 (chattering)
00:04:43 (chattering)
00:04:46 (chattering)
00:04:48 (chattering)
00:04:51 (chattering)
00:04:54 (chattering)
00:04:56 (chattering)
00:04:58 (chattering)
00:05:01 (chattering)
00:05:03 (chattering)
00:05:15 (chattering)
00:05:17 And Zaki, we are happy to welcome the diplomatic corps
00:05:43 who are with us here today, looking resplendent
00:05:47 and showing their unwavering support,
00:05:50 their backing for St. Lucia's development
00:05:52 definitely makes a difference for us as a country.
00:05:56 We have a number of visiting contingents joining us today
00:06:02 and throughout our milestone anniversary and celebrations.
00:06:07 And Zaki, I would now,
00:06:11 (chattering)
00:06:14 So definitely we would like to salute
00:06:38 the Prime Minister of St. Lucia,
00:06:41 the Honorable Philip Joseph Pierre,
00:06:45 and his entire cabinet of ministers,
00:06:47 the President of the Senate, Ms. Alvina Reynolds,
00:06:51 and members of the Senate,
00:06:52 the Speaker of the House of Parliament,
00:06:54 Mr. Claudius Francis, Deputy Speaker,
00:06:57 the Honorable Jeremiah Norbert.
00:06:59 Happy Independence 45 to you all.
00:07:02 We also wish a very happy independence
00:07:05 to His Majesty's opposition,
00:07:07 headed by Mr. Alan Michael Shastney.
00:07:10 We recognize in a special way
00:07:12 the parliamentary representatives of SUFRA,
00:07:15 the Honorable Emma Hippolyte as a constituency
00:07:20 is once again hosting the military parade
00:07:24 outside of the capital.
00:07:26 I understand, Claudia, that has been done before in 1989?
00:07:30 In 1989,
00:07:36 the independence celebrations shifted to view fort.
00:07:41 Oh, okay.
00:07:42 So many, many years ago.
00:07:46 I guess it was a good time to revisit that concept.
00:07:50 I see.
00:07:51 And we are currently, as you know,
00:07:53 people in this beautiful constituency,
00:07:56 really a cast of its own when it comes to
00:07:59 SUFRA's unmatched natural attractions.
00:08:02 But let me quickly add that we as locals,
00:08:06 we love the visitors, the entire island,
00:08:08 and everything is just definitely breathtaking.
00:08:11 And just for some added context,
00:08:13 SUFRA is located on the west coast of St. Lucia
00:08:16 and was actually once the capital
00:08:19 of our island in the 1800s.
00:08:22 Imagine that, imagine that.
00:08:24 Yes, indeed.

00:12:39 Please stand for the arrival of the Prime Minister
00:12:47 of St. Lucia on our both facilities.
00:12:49 [INAUDIBLE]
00:12:52 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:13:21 As we witness the arrival of the Prime Minister,
00:13:26 we underscore and highlight that this year we
00:13:30 celebrate independence under the theme,
00:13:33 "Diversam, Building a Nation, Freedom, Unity, Resilience,
00:13:37 and Creativity."
00:13:40 And I must mention that according
00:13:42 to the announcement made by the Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Augusto
00:13:46 de Gazo, that this year will be the third and final year
00:13:50 that we will celebrate under the theme, "Diversam."
00:13:59 I think the Commissioner of Police
00:14:01 has just exited the vehicle.
00:14:03 Yes, indeed.
00:14:07 We now see the arrival of the Commissioner of Police.
00:14:14 This is Procedure Descartes Pellios.
00:14:18 [INAUDIBLE]
00:14:21 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:14:25,
00:14:47 [INAUDIBLE]
00:15:15 If you hear some joyous noise in the crowd, Claudia,
00:15:20 that is we hear a youngster mimicking the parade commander
00:15:24 when the parade commander said, "Stand at ease."
00:15:27 It's definitely a crowd pleaser, especially
00:15:29 for the young people of St. Lucia.
00:15:32 Certainly, and the military parade
00:15:35 is definitely one of the most looked forward
00:15:38 to, most anticipated events on the independence calendar.
00:15:44 The Commissioner of Police will now be--
00:15:46 yes, the Prime Minister is arriving.
00:15:52 The Commissioner of Police will accept him
00:15:57 and will report to him the condition of the parade.
00:16:01 [INAUDIBLE]
00:16:03 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:16:07 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:16:23 Prime Minister of St. Lucia, the Honorable Philippe Joseph
00:16:30 Pierre.
00:16:30 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:16:34 What a beautiful morning it is, very sunny in New Development
00:16:55 Soufriere.
00:16:56 And we have such a beautiful backdrop.
00:16:58 [INAUDIBLE]
00:17:01 Mr. Sili, can you speak to the parade unfolding before us?
00:17:22 Yes, this morning, it's a very wonderful parade.
00:17:26 The weather is--
00:17:28 [INAUDIBLE]
00:17:29 --specialized this morning.
00:17:30 The sun is out.
00:17:32 We have just witnessed the arrival of the Prime Minister
00:17:36 of St. Lucia.
00:17:38 Next on the agenda would be the arrival of the acting Governor
00:17:45 General, should be any minute from now,
00:17:51 followed by the inspection of the entire parade
00:17:55 this morning.
00:17:57 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:18:01 ACP Nshama Sili is the commander of the parade.
00:18:24 And she is establishing yet another first in her career.
00:18:29 She has been involved in many parades over two decades.
00:18:32 But this is the first time that she is in overall--
00:18:38 In charge of the parade.
00:18:39 --in charge, that she's overall in charge of the parade
00:18:41 as the parade commander.
00:18:43 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:18:52 Parade, attention.
00:18:54 So you will be hearing commands such as parade,
00:19:12 shoulder arms, royal salute, present arms, shoulder arms,
00:19:17 and then other arms in this segment of the parade
00:19:20 as we acknowledge the arrival of His Excellency.
00:19:24 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:19:28 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:19:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:19:35 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:19:39 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:19:48 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:19:52 So Mr. Sili, we will soon be seeing the inspection.
00:20:14 Yes, we'll see it later.
00:20:15 OK.
00:20:16 OK.
00:20:16 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:20:20 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:20:23 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:20:52 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:20:55 Of course, Zaki, as you indicated,
00:21:08 the inspection will take place very soon.
00:21:13 And the platoons are meticulously turned out,
00:21:21 looking sharp to a crisp.
00:21:22 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:21:26 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:21:29 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:21:33 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:21:36 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:21:40 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:22:08 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:22:12 So the parade commander has reported to His Excellency
00:22:20 and is inviting him to inspect the parade.
00:22:24 The commission of police, the staff officer,
00:22:27 also accompanies His Excellency.
00:22:32 After the inspection, His Excellency
00:22:34 will return to the dais, and the parade commander
00:22:38 would seek permission.
00:22:39 He will seek permission to continue the parade.
00:22:45 That's right.
00:22:48 This is an amazing shot, an overhead shot of the parade.
00:22:52 Looks very stunning, doesn't it, Claudia?
00:22:55 It certainly does.
00:22:57 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:23:00 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:23:28 While the inspection takes place, Mr. Siliu,
00:23:35 I must mention that last night, the flag raising ceremony
00:23:42 and fireworks was held in the north in Rosalie,
00:23:48 in Cass Street, Point Seraphine, in Soufriere, Viewport.
00:23:55 And of course, the symbolism of the reenactment
00:24:02 of that stunning moment in 1979, when the St. Lucian flag was
00:24:08 raised, it serves well for generations
00:24:14 who were not present at the time to have a feel of what
00:24:19 took place on that night.
00:24:20 But were you there, Mr. Siliu?
00:24:22 1979, flag raising.
00:24:25 Can you reflect a bit on that unforgettable moment,
00:24:30 I would say?
00:24:32 Yes, most definitely, Claudia.
00:24:34 It was a wonderful atmosphere back in 1979.
00:24:42 That parade was held at midnight on the Cass Street Wharf.
00:24:50 And there were diplomats and dignitaries
00:24:53 from all over, from Britain, the United Kingdom,
00:24:59 from the Caribbean, from the USA.
00:25:01 And it was a really, really joyous occasion
00:25:05 when the St. Lucian flag went up to replace the Union
00:25:08 Jack that we had.
00:25:09 Thank you for that.
00:25:15 I tried as much as possible to picture it
00:25:18 while you described it.
00:25:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:25:23 Since at that point, I would not have
00:25:29 been able to have a sense of what was happening
00:25:37 in St. Lucia at the time.
00:25:39 But I am a student of history, and I appreciate very much
00:25:43 the significance of 1979, midnight at that moment
00:25:48 when the Union Jack went down and the St. Lucian flag,
00:25:56 designed by Sir Dunstan St. Thomas the Sixth, went up.
00:25:58 We've had quite an impressive program of activities.
00:26:11 And I would like to acknowledge the National Independence
00:26:15 Committee for all the hard work they've
00:26:19 put in coordinating such a mammoth suite of activities.
00:26:27 It's a lot of work.
00:26:28 And I must also commend the Government Information Service
00:26:33 and the event St. Lucia.
00:26:35 The event St. Lucia is also streaming the parade live
00:26:38 for those who would like to go onto their platform.
00:26:43 And, Claudie, without the police,
00:26:48 the activities would not be successful.
00:26:52 And as the inspection continues, I
00:26:56 wish to convey greetings on St. Lucian's 45th
00:26:59 to the commissioner and the executive rank and file,
00:27:04 the civilian staff at Chesterfield,
00:27:07 but in all embracing manner, all police officers,
00:27:11 wherever you are at this time, thank you for your hard work
00:27:16 and sacrifice.
00:27:18 All retired commissioners of police, yes, all police
00:27:22 officers, former police officers, you know, Claudia,
00:27:26 as the inspection goes on--
00:27:27 Former police commissioners.
00:27:28 Former police commissioners.
00:27:29 As the inspection goes on, I could
00:27:32 imagine the amount of preparation, Mr. Sili,
00:27:35 that went into--
00:27:37 that the officers had to take some serious attention to,
00:27:42 so they could look immaculate for the governor general.
00:27:45 Yes, yes, indeed.
00:27:47 A lot of effort has been put into the turnout this morning.
00:27:51 And pretty much so.
00:27:53 If I am impressed by the turnout,
00:27:55 I could well imagine the governor general, you know,
00:27:59 having gone through the ranks this morning.
00:28:02 He must be pretty impressed and pleased at the turnout
00:28:05 here this morning.
00:28:05 Very wonderful turnout, I must say.
00:28:07 One of the outstanding events on the program of independence
00:28:21 activities, or the independence calendar,
00:28:25 was the business expo at the Independence Village,
00:28:32 where basically the William Peter Boulevard
00:28:35 transformed into the Independence
00:28:37 Village for two days.
00:28:40 And the expo was a great success.
00:28:44 And I think that since we are in Soufriere,
00:28:46 and exports inclusion falls under the portfolio
00:28:50 of the Honorable Emma Heapley, that we should highlight
00:28:56 the success of this event.
00:28:59 And just to share with your viewers,
00:29:03 the exports inclusion made accommodations
00:29:07 to feature 140 local businesses at the St. Lucia Business
00:29:13 Expo, representing diverse sectors,
00:29:17 including manufacturing, creatives, health and wellness,
00:29:21 and services.
00:29:22 And I paid a visit and was very impressed by this year's expo.
00:29:30 And while there, I interacted with many
00:29:36 of our local entrepreneurs.
00:29:40 And they were very well informed about their products
00:29:43 and services.
00:29:44 And they were very happy to have this opportunity.
00:29:51 So the local entrepreneurs networked with one another,
00:29:55 as well as forged relationships with potential buyers,
00:29:59 both domestic and external, who were present at the event.
00:30:02 Well done, exports inclusion.
00:30:11 There was also local entertainment.
00:30:14 Of course, Independence is the time
00:30:17 to showcase our local talent.
00:30:20 And so the expo also featured live performances
00:30:26 from the band Big People Business.
00:30:35 And that was on the Friday.
00:30:39 The lead singer being Dennis Leo, former Calypso Monarch.
00:30:46 T. Caro, he's the lead singer.
00:30:49 And the manager is Mr. Benedict B.J. Joseph,
00:30:57 former public servant.
00:30:59 I was very impressed with their performance.
00:31:03 And I was proud.
00:31:09 I was proud that they delved into those classics,
00:31:16 the Calypso classics, Mr. Sealy.
00:31:19 Well loved, very familiar.
00:31:22 They got good crowd response.
00:31:24 Also, on the Saturday, I believe we saw beloved artists
00:31:29 such as Ezra, the Fun Machine, Agustin, Shemi J, as well
00:31:35 as Soca Monarch, Imran Nurdi.
00:31:36 These artists were backed up by the Dynamic Impulse Band,
00:31:41 a talented group of young musicians.
00:31:44 We also saw junior Calypso Nians from the R.C. Boyd School.
00:31:49 They also had an opportunity
00:31:51 to showcase their vocal prowess, receiving support
00:31:57 from the band I mentioned earlier, Big People Business.
00:32:11 And the governor general has emerged
00:32:15 from undertaking the inspection along with the team.
00:32:22 >> And this is where the parade commander will be seeking his
00:32:27 permission to carry on with the parade.
00:32:30 >> Yes. And I think this is the segment where we will have much
00:32:34 to look forward to, Mr. Sealy.
00:32:36 And can you give us some insights on what the band has
00:32:43 in store for us and on this special milestone we are looking
00:32:49 forward to seeing some additional touches
00:32:54 to the parade.
00:32:55 >> And troop!
00:32:57 >> Yes.
00:32:58 >> That would make it more thrilling and more exciting.
00:33:00 >> Most certainly.
00:33:02 >> This morning the band will be trooping in slow and quick time.
00:33:07 There will be something slightly different
00:33:10 from what we are accustomed to over the years.
00:33:15 The drum major is in command at this point in time.
00:33:18 The drum major is Corporal Gideon Deasy.
00:33:22 The band takes off in slow time.
00:33:26 And there are four trombones on parade this morning.
00:33:30 The senior trombone is Danny Marshall.
00:33:34 And the bass trombone player is Nigel Sealy.
00:33:40 We have four hornets on parade.
00:33:42 Three French horns.
00:33:45 Two tubas.
00:33:46 And that is happening as we speak.
00:33:48 The band is now trooping in slow and quick time.

00:34:35 >> Thank you for that insight, Mr. Sealy.
00:34:38 As we are treated to rendition after rendition
00:34:46 from the best band in the whole wide world.
00:34:49 >> Best band.

00:38:19 >> Yeah, so this morning on parade we are just witnessing the troop
00:38:22 by the police band.
00:38:25 The band is marching in quick and slow time.
00:38:28 The first half of the band will be marching off in quick time
00:38:31 and the second half in slow time and they would change alternatively.
00:38:34 Right now they are back in position and await the signal
00:38:37 from the drum major to cease play and halt.
00:38:41 And after that is done, then it will be the police officers
00:38:47 on parade to showcase the talent by doing the march.
00:38:56 [ Applause ]
00:38:59 >> And we are just hearing applause, Zach, from our audience.
00:39:07 Very appreciative of the parade.
00:39:12 I just took a look.
00:39:17 [ Foreign Language Spoken ]
00:39:21 >> I just took a look, Claudia.
00:39:23 [ Foreign Language Spoken ]
00:39:27 >> I just took a look at the government Facebook page
00:39:31 and realizing there's so much reactions and comments,
00:39:35 especially from our people in the diaspora.
00:39:40 I'd like to say happy 45th to all you guys on the Facebook page commenting.
00:39:45 There's so much interaction going on there.
00:39:47 They're definitely enjoying the spectacle of our military parade.
00:39:51 >> Thank you very much for that feedback, Zachy.
00:39:54 We are happy to embrace our people near and far.
00:40:03 Speaking of near and far, we would like to acknowledge St. Lucia in Taiwan.
00:40:10 The Embassy of St. Lucia in Taiwan is also commemorating independence
00:40:16 with their own program of activities, which on some level is in concert with ours as well.
00:40:24 And currently they are hosting a 45th reception in Taipei to mark the independence celebrations.
00:40:41 And guess what, Zachy?
00:40:44 National colors or cultural wear was the dress code for this auspicious occasion.
00:40:49 >> That's excellent.
00:40:51 I wish I was there.
00:40:54 >> Many -- the stands are filled, Zachy, well attended by the Sufre community and environs
00:41:02 and for the field, of course, and they have been very generous with their applause.
00:41:08 I think with their applause, I think they are very impressed with what they are witnessing here today.
00:41:18 >> Oh, most definitely.
00:41:19 >> And I believe there is more to come as the parade progresses.
00:41:30 >> Yes, we are now witnessing a drill display by the number one detachment of the police force
00:41:35 under the command of Inspector Morgan, Alex Morgan.
00:41:41 >> Alex Morgan.
00:41:43 >> They are dressed in black, white gloves and white caps.
00:41:50 And the display this morning, again, would be to pay compliments to the Governor General on parade this morning.
00:42:15 >> [ Speaking in foreign language ]
00:42:25 >> Alex Morgan.
00:42:28 [ Speaking in foreign language ]
00:42:53 >> [ Speaking in foreign language ]
00:43:09 >> Yes, indeed.
00:43:11 We are witnessing some very precise and synchronized drills at the moment.
00:43:17 Very eye-catching and impressive.
00:43:29 These drills are, of course, executed just to perfection and to add some additional features to mark our milestone anniversary, Independence 45.
00:43:54 [ Drills ]
00:44:23 >> The military parade will be followed by the Independence celebratory rally right here at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.
00:44:43 You really have to stay in Soufriere all day today to also enjoy the Independence showcase.
00:44:54 Again, here at the same venue at 4 p.m.
00:45:00 In Castries, the Seafood Fest is ongoing at the Castries Fisheries Complex.
00:45:10 As I indicated earlier, activities are happening island-wide at the community level.
00:45:18 There's a lot happening as well.
00:45:21 Bikers will be in action at some point today.
00:45:41 [ Drills ]
00:46:09 >> [ Speaking in foreign language ]
00:46:19 >> Oh, okay.
00:46:20 >> Yeah, because there's a lot of confusion going on right now.
00:46:24 >> Yes.
00:46:25 >> Because we are reporting what we see.
00:46:30 There's almost a whole minute delay.
00:46:33 >> Yes.
00:46:34 >> Of what the public can see.
00:46:36 >> Yes.
00:46:37 >> So there will be confusion.
00:46:39 What are we talking about?
00:46:40 >> Everything we see, everything, everything.
00:46:42 If we have to put up a video, everything will be after the fact.
00:46:46 >> After the fact.
00:46:47 >> Okay.
00:46:48 >> And it still causes a problem because if we were to speak to what we see there, but the audio that's coming through, still not in sync with the visual.
00:46:58 >> Yeah.
00:46:59 >> We hear it in real time.
00:47:00 >> That's why we should rely on what's happening.
00:47:02 >> For us.
00:47:03 >> For us, yeah.
00:47:04 >> We're supposed to have -- everyone is before the monitors there.
00:47:08 >> Yeah.
00:47:09 >> Yeah.
00:47:10 >> Visual monitors.
00:47:11 >> Yes.
00:47:12 >> With headsets on our ears.
00:47:14 >> That's right.
00:47:15 >> And we -- so that we see what the people are hearing and seeing in TV.
00:47:21 >> Yeah.
00:47:22 >> Yeah.
00:47:23 >> So this is definitely not our fault.
00:47:24 >> I know.
00:47:25 This is television.
00:47:26 >> Exactly.
00:47:27 >> It's already seen.
00:47:28 So what you say to a man, you say, "I'm going to put this on."
00:47:33 >> Yeah.
00:47:34 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:35 >> Yeah.
00:47:36 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:37 >> Yeah.
00:47:38 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:39 >> Yeah.
00:47:40 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:41 >> Yeah.
00:47:42 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:43 >> Yeah.
00:47:44 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:45 >> Yeah.
00:47:46 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:47 >> Yeah.
00:47:48 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:49 >> Yeah.
00:47:50 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:51 >> Yeah.
00:47:52 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:53 >> Yeah.
00:47:54 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:55 >> Yeah.
00:47:56 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:57 >> Yeah.
00:47:58 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:47:59 >> Yeah.
00:48:00 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:01 >> Yeah.
00:48:02 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:03 >> Yeah.
00:48:04 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:05 >> Yeah.
00:48:06 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:07 >> Yeah.
00:48:08 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:09 >> Yeah.
00:48:10 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:11 >> Yeah.
00:48:12 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:13 >> Yeah.
00:48:14 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:15 >> Yeah.
00:48:16 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:17 >> Yeah.
00:48:18 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:19 >> Yeah.
00:48:20 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:21 >> Yeah.
00:48:22 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:23 >> Yeah.
00:48:24 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:25 >> Yeah.
00:48:26 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:27 >> Yeah.
00:48:28 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:29 >> Yeah.
00:48:30 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:31 >> Yeah.
00:48:32 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:33 >> Yeah.
00:48:34 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:35 >> Yeah.
00:48:36 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:37 >> Yeah.
00:48:38 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:39 >> Yeah.
00:48:40 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:41 >> Yeah.
00:48:42 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:43 >> Yeah.
00:48:44 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:45 >> Yeah.
00:48:46 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:47 >> Yeah.
00:48:48 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:48:49 >> Yeah.

00:55:51 >> And you're going to put it on.
00:55:52 >> Yeah.
00:55:53 >> Thank you for that, Zaki, well said, as we train our gaze onto the parade.
00:56:03 Oh my goodness.
00:56:06 Oh, wow.
00:56:10 Impressive, Mr. Sealy.
00:56:14 The spectacle before us is very impressive, I will say.
00:56:18 >> Yes, very, very impressive performance by the number one detachment.
00:56:22 I must say, very well done.
00:56:25 Hats off to Inspector Morgan for initiating such a display this morning.
00:56:31 >> And I love the energy of the audience here at the Soufremini Stadium.
00:56:37 They are applauding, they are dancing, they are cheering, they are screaming.
00:56:50 And it's wonderful to see that connection between the parade and the audience.
00:56:58 And I'm sure for those who are joined in virtually, they are just as impressed with the display
00:57:08 today.
00:57:09 >> The parade commander has just given the order, the close order march in preparation
00:57:27 for the parade march past this morning.
00:57:31 The march past will take the form of a salute to the Governor General when just before they
00:57:43 get to the podium where the Governor General has been placed.
00:57:49 We now await the word of command from the parade commander, Dr. Mashama Sealy, who is
00:57:56 the Deputy Commissioner of Police Acton.
00:58:01 >> Parade, shoulder arms.
00:58:10 Move to the right in three, march, huddle.
00:58:25 >> The parade commander moves to the front of the parade where she'll be joined by the
00:58:32 Parade 2IC, the second in command, which is ACP Luke DeFritus.
00:58:45 >> The parade will march past in slow and in quick time at 32 paces interval with number
00:59:08 one detachment leading.
00:59:09 Parade, march, ha.
00:59:10 >> The parade commander moves to the right in three, march, huddle.
00:59:39 >> The parade commander moves to the front of the parade where she'll be joined by the
01:00:08 Parade 2IC, the second in command, which is ACP Luke DeFritus.
01:00:36 >> The police band this morning is under the command of Acting Superintendent Lyson Embert.
01:00:46 The second in charge is Acting ASP Anderson Charles.
01:00:56 They are two sergeants, three corporals, 20 constables, two ASPCs and five band cadets
01:01:07 in the police band this morning.
01:01:09 Four drummers, one bass drum, one cymbal player, six clarinet players, three tubas and four
01:01:19 trombones, four cornets, one baritone sax, one tenor sax, two alto saxes and one piccolo,
01:01:32 three French horns.
01:01:33 The person in charge of the French horn section is Sergeant Glennis Joseph, newly promoted
01:01:40 sergeant and she is in charge of the French horn section this morning.
01:01:44 >> Honestly, Mr. Sealy, witnessing this display by the Royal St. Lucia Police Force has really
01:01:55 triggered a lot of pride within me.
01:01:59 I'm very, very proud of them and I can well appreciate the tenacity it takes to pull off
01:02:08 such precise drills and to execute so elegantly the various formations synchronized at that
01:02:17 that they had to deliver this morning.
01:02:22 And there's been a lot of rehearsals over the past week.
01:02:31 Coming down to Soufriere, making that time, took a lot of sacrifice on their part.
01:02:37 And now I can assure them that the finished product that we are witnessing, what they
01:02:42 worked so hard to accomplish is very, very well appreciated.
01:02:47 Job well done, guys and ladies.

01:04:12 >> Thank you for staying with the National Television Network as we bring you live coverage
01:04:23 of the military parade here in new development Soufriere.
01:04:28 Soufriere was once upon a time in the early 1800s the capital of St. Lucia.
01:04:39 Many, many eons ago.
01:04:43 But Soufriere has held her own as one of the most beautiful parts of the island populated
01:04:56 by about just under 8,000 persons, wonderful persons at that.
01:05:09 And Teresa Mecca we can see, Saki.
01:05:14 >> Oh, most definitely.
01:05:17 It's a beautiful, beautiful constituency.
01:05:23 And as we see the platoons pass by, we get a sense of pride what it means to be St. Lucia,
01:05:36 what it honestly means to be St. Lucia.
01:05:39 It's a proud moment for us, proud moment for St. Lucia.
01:05:45 There's much more we could do, but we have achieved a lot.
01:05:48 And I'm happy to be a St. Lucia.
01:05:56 >> The applause continues.
01:06:00 And I think the reaction of the crowd here today says it all.
01:06:08 What a spectacle indeed.
01:06:12 Quite worthy of the occasion of our 45th anniversary of independence.
01:06:23 This morning has been nothing short of momentous.
01:06:47 I think the parade has personified the theme because in this parade I think we have captured
01:06:54 unity, resilience and creativity.
01:06:58 Mr. Sili.
01:06:59 >> Yes, most definitely.
01:07:01 Everything here this morning is depicting St. Lucia's independence, also our 45th anniversary
01:07:11 of independence.
01:07:12 And it's a very joyous occasion.
01:07:18 Everywhere you look you would see some semblance of St. Lucia art.
01:07:27 And it's remarkable.
01:07:29 Like Claudia said earlier, the committee, hats off to the committee for a job well done.
01:07:38 The parade this morning, the turnout is immaculate.
01:07:43 A lot of time and effort has been put into rehearsals and training to get it right.
01:07:48 And evidently that everyone on parade this morning did their homework and did what they
01:07:55 were supposed to do.
01:07:57 And the results are very, very outstanding this morning.
01:08:08 We also say congratulations and hats off to all the independence award recipients.
01:08:17 Investiture will take place on Sunday, 17th March.
01:08:21 And that will be live on NTN.
01:08:24 So there are still activities to come on the flagship of the nation's 45th anniversary
01:08:33 of independence.
01:08:35 And that includes the independence drags.
01:08:39 And that is going to take place on the 24th and 25th of February at the base in View Fort.
01:08:47 And the National Service Day also on the 24th and 25th of February.
01:08:58 So continue to keep your eyes on the national television network.
01:09:04 Continue to support, continue to participate, continue to turn out and to be safe.
01:09:09 We also want to recognize many organizations, schools, institutions which are also recognizing
01:09:19 milestone anniversaries which includes the St. Lucia fire service marking the 50th anniversary,
01:09:29 1974 to 2024.
01:09:32 Congratulations, guys, on a job well done over five decades.
01:09:44 We also want to commend the Borderland Correctional Facility as they march past and take the salute.
01:09:54 They participated in the expo and all of their products, their creative products, Mr. Sealy,
01:10:04 were sold out.
01:10:06 They did very, very well.
01:10:08 And those were produced by the inmates, which goes to show that there is talent and potential
01:10:18 in every nook and cranny of St. Lucia.
01:10:21 It is just a matter of us harnessing these abilities and channeling them positively for
01:10:28 the benefit of self and country.
01:10:32 [ Applause ]
01:10:58 And there goes the fire service, the serviceman.
01:11:12 And there has been an appeal from the St. Lucia fire service that I must reiterate for
01:11:18 safety, for safety on the roads as well.
01:11:25 For safety at home, we certainly do not want to hear of any unfortunate incidents.
01:11:33 As you indicated last year, Mr. Sealy, I recall you making that appeal that we should stay
01:11:42 away from or avoid doing anything that would bring tears and sadness to each other.
01:11:56 Of course, not just for today, but this is the sort of prevailing mindset and attitude
01:12:02 that we would like all St. Lucians to live with as a principle of their own personal
01:12:10 lives.
01:12:11 Yes, I don't think any right-thinking St. Lucian would want anything bad to happen with
01:12:22 people in the country and so on.
01:12:25 So I would just like to agree with Claudia.
01:12:33 That well said.
01:12:37 I too would like to lend my voice to wishing the St. Lucia fire service a happier 50th
01:12:43 anniversary.
01:12:44 The fire service was part of the police force initially.
01:12:50 They branched out from the police force in 1974, which is 50 years ago.
01:12:55 And they have their own mandate and everything.
01:12:58 And they have done well on their own, pretty much, I must say.
01:13:05 Thank you.
01:13:07 Thank you.
01:13:14 Thank you.
01:13:21 Thank you.

01:23:07 Thank you.
01:23:17 Thank you.
01:23:27 Thank you.
01:23:37 Thank you.
01:23:47 Thank you.
01:23:57 Thank you.
01:24:07 >> And our next milestone will be the great 50.
01:24:17 >> I'm looking forward to it myself.
01:24:27 What brings me joy this morning is from where I'm sitting, I can actually see the top of the piton.
01:24:37 And all the lush green around.
01:24:47 It's a very, very beautiful sight this morning.
01:24:57 And the piton symbolize soaring to new heights all of the time.
01:25:09 Striving for the highest achievement in everything that we do.
01:25:15 So it's very fitting that nature itself speaks to us.
01:25:21 It's our pitons, our strength, our identity, the symbolism of a nation that continues to progress.
01:25:35 As it ventures upward, it reminds us that the sky is the limit for St. Lucia.
01:25:43 And while the journey is quite challenging because it isn't easy to climb those pitons at all.
01:25:53 >> I did it once, my broadcast colleagues, and I'm not going to do it again.
01:26:03 >> Because of course I have not dared to tackle it.
01:26:11 But I have met St. Lucians who have done the climb and I think some persons boast of the climb, of the pitons, more than once at that.
01:26:27 So I listen keenly when they speak.
01:26:33 And I can learn from their experience because I doubt very much that there will ever be a full sand experience.
01:26:41 I'm concerned.
01:26:51 Independence 45 activities continue right here.
01:26:58 We've had a wide spectrum of activities touching many key sectors including academia, sports, calypso, and other creative art forms, cuisine, spirituality, religion, pageantry, fireworks, regional and international cooperation.
01:27:26 And our diplomatic corps has demonstrated by the strong presence with us throughout all of the activities for independence.
01:27:44 >> The Prime Minister has been escorted to the vehicle.
01:27:54 He's been escorted by the police, his departure, again escorted by the commissioner of police, his staff officer, and the protocol officials.
01:28:20 I think the Prime Minister's feedback on this morning's parade will be nothing short of complimentary.
01:28:29 And I think he may have shared that with the commissioner of police.
01:28:40 >> I think the Prime Minister is well pleased that her men and women put on such a breathtaking display and execution of drills.
01:28:53 And it is warm but not unbearably so.
01:28:59 >> Parade, move to the right in the column of truth.
01:29:28 >> At this point in time, the police commissioner has taken up her position on the podium for her salute.
01:29:38 >> The parade would march around, pay compliments to the commissioner of police, and then march off down to the police station on the waterfront.
