00:00In Palestine, Israeli troops committed four massacres in Gaza, killing at least 40 people
00:15in the last 24 hours.
00:20In Lebanon, Israeli occupation forces increased their attacks on the nation's southern border,
00:24hitting several targets.
00:29In Argentina, authorities continue fighting several forest fires ravaging through the
00:33province of Córdoba.
00:40Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the LSO Studios in
00:44Havana, Cuba.
00:45We begin with the news.
00:59In Palestine, Israeli troops committed four massacres against families in the Gaza Strip
01:07during the last 24 hours.
01:09Health authorities reported at least 40 people killed and 58 injured during the attack on
01:13residential areas.
01:15Emergency services continue searching for bodies trapped under rubble or scattered on
01:19the roads.
01:20The Israeli regime has killed over 41,431 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded 95,880 others.
01:29In this context, the Palestinian government condemned the killing of at least five health
01:39workers as a result of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.
01:42The Palestinian Health Ministry condemned the constant violations by the Tel Aviv regime
01:46of international and humanitarian laws, which prohibit the targeting of health workers.
01:51Over the past 11 months, Israeli troops have killed more than 990 health workers in Gaza,
01:56including doctors, specialists, nurses and paramedics.
01:59Occupation forces have also arrested more than 300 others and destroyed numerous hospitals
02:04and more than 100 ambulances.
02:11An Israeli force raided al-Jazeera's office in Ramallah on Saturday, arbitrarily closing
02:16the media outlet for 45 days.
02:18According to local media, Saudi troops violently stormed the office with rifles in hand and
02:23masks, presenting a military order signed by Israel to close al-Jazeera without giving
02:28an explanation.
02:29The Tel Aviv regime's soldiers on site handed the document to the head of the agency, Walid
02:33al-Omari, and then told the staff to evacuate within 10 minutes and to leave all the equipment
02:38behind.
02:39This event follows the recent attack carried out by the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah
02:43with a barrage of missiles against the Haramat David Israeli air defense buttons.
02:47This is a cowardly attack on the Arab and Palestinian press and freedom of expression
02:58and an attack on the al-Jazeera network in the first place.
03:02The occupation forces arrived here and stormed this office at around 3 in the morning.
03:10Large forces stormed the city of Ramallah, the Manara area and the surrounding streets,
03:16closed the streets and prevented anyone from approaching.
03:20Large forces stormed the office here and then handed us an order to close it for 45 days,
03:27on the pretext that it supports terrorism and works on incitement and that they will
03:33confiscate all the content inside.
03:36On Saturday, thousands of Israeli citizens gathered again in the streets of Tel Aviv
03:40to pressure the government for a truce agreement to free the hostages in Gaza.
03:45The attacks in the Israeli capital have become more critical towards the government of Benjamin
03:49Netanyahu since the army announced the recovery of six Israeli soldiers killed in the southern
03:53Palestinian enclave.
03:55Since October 7, 2023, nearly 250 hostages have been under Hamas custody, while the Netanyahu
04:00cabinet has prioritized its political interests over the lives of prisoners.
04:07We are very frustrated about this situation because we want to be democratic and we believe
04:16in people and in good relationship with the Arabic in the area, we don't want to be influenced
04:24from this government who just want to part to make war and we want to live the best quality
04:36life for everyone in the Middle East and we want a democratic and modern, developed
04:45place to live in the Middle East, all of us together.
04:50Meanwhile in Germany, thousands of citizens demonstrated in Bremen city in support of
04:53the Palestinian cause while condemning the aggrations carried out by the Sunnis regime
04:57in the Gaza Strip.
04:59Demonstrators marched through the streets of the city carrying Palestinian and Lebanese
05:02flags and raising slogans to demand that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
05:06be held accountable for the crimes perpetrated against the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
05:10He also demanded an end to the genocidal war that the Israeli regime has been waging in
05:14Gaza for the past 11 months.
05:21Also in Sweden, thousands of people participated in demonstrations organizing Uppsala and Stockholm
05:26in support of the Palestinian people and demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
05:30Demonstrators took the streets of these Swedish cities to denounce the constant aggrations
05:34perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against the enclave.
05:36During the demonstrations, the participants raised Palestinian flags in rejection of the
05:40Israeli genocide, which since its beginning has left more than 42,000 Palestinian civilians
05:45killed and more than 90,000 wounded.
05:48For her part, ex-Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg condemned the genocide and
05:52affirmed that silence regarding this situation means complicity.

06:20Welcome back.
06:21Israel is mobilizing some troops to launch a new war phase against southern Lebanon.
06:26The escalation of tensions between the Hezbollah resistance group and Israel has intensified
06:29after the attacks against residential areas in Beirut, which killed at least 50 people
06:34and wounded dozens.
06:35According to local media, in recent days the Israeli occupation forces have pulled out
06:40military artillery, including tanks, from some areas of the Gaza Strip to position them
06:45on the border with Lebanon.
06:46The Netanyahu administration has confirmed that bombardments against Lebanon will not
06:50stop, whereas Hezbollah says it has the capacity to face a prolonged war with Tel Aviv.
07:00In southern Lebanon, new Israeli attacks against several Hezbollah resistance military centers
07:04are reported in the last hours as part of the escalation of hostilities between the
07:07two countries.
07:08During Sunday morning, the Israeli Air Force fighter jets bombed dozens of targets, including
07:13military structures of the resistance movement.
07:16In this context, Tel Aviv threatens to intensify attacks against Hezbollah in the coming days.
07:20Meanwhile, Lebanon answers to the Zionist offensive by firing more than a hundred rockets
07:25at Israeli military installations in Ramat David.
07:33And following up the situation in the area, the number of dead in the bomb being perpetrated
07:36by Israel against a neighborhood in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, has risen to 50.
07:41Authorities also confirmed that the number of wounded has risen to 66, while another
07:4511 people are still missing.
07:47In this sense, the rescue groups emphasize that search and rescue operations are continuing
07:52in the areas attacked by Israel.
07:53The bombing took place on Friday, September 20, after a wave of coordinated explosions
07:58in communication devices.
08:01Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance movement launches its most far-reaching attack on Israeli military
08:09bases in the occupied Palestinian territories.
08:11The Israeli Ramat David airbase is located in northern part of the Israeli occupied Palestinian
08:16territories, just 20 kilometers southeast of Haifa.
08:18Since October 7, Hezbollah has been carrying out numerous similar attacks against the occupied
08:22territories, after the Zionist regime significantly intensified its aggressions against Lebanon.
08:27In this context, Hezbollah Deputy Chief Naim Kassem says his group is ready to face all
08:31military possibilities in its battle against Israel.
08:39In Iran, the number of dead workers in the explosion at the Tabas mine increased to 51.
08:46A gas leak explosion at the Tabas coal mine in eastern Iran has claimed the lives of at
08:50least 51 workers, with 20 others injured.
08:52The blast occurred on Saturday night, trapping some workers on the ground.
08:56Rescue operations are ongoing.
08:58To face the catastrophe, the Iranian head of state, Massoud Pesherskian, ordered the
09:02security teams to initiate the investigations in order to clarify the possible causes of
09:06this accident.
09:07All authorities have announced three days of public mourning in the province.
09:16In Iran, police forces dismantled a terrorist cell attempted to infiltrate the country from
09:20the southeast border to commit acts of sabotage.
09:23Iranian Border Police Commander Ahmad Ali reported that his forces repelled the attempt
09:28of a terrorist group to enter the country through the Syrian border zone, wanting to
09:32carry out destructive operations in the country.
09:36The military high command recognized the vigilance of the Iranian border guards and
09:39detailed that its troops inflicted a severe strike to the terrorists.
09:43He also detailed that a large amount of weapons and ammunition were confiscated from the cell,
09:48including portable wireless devices and an improvised explosive device.
09:57In Iran news in the United States, social organizations warned that over the last few
10:01months the number of homeless people in the country has risen to 550,000.
10:05According to research, it is expected that by the end of 2024, the number of homeless
10:09people in the United States will exceed 653,000, the highest number ever since 2007.
10:16Data shows that compared to 2023, the number of people living on the streets in shelters
10:20and in tents has increased by 10%.
10:23Experts warn that the rise in homelessness is due to the increase of the country's economic
10:27and social problems.
10:33French President Emmanuel Macron lost popularity after calling for early parliamentary elections
10:37after appointing Michel Barnier as Prime Minister.
10:41According to a survey by the French Public Opinion Institute, 75% of French citizens
10:45disapprove the Macron administration for only a 25% approval.
10:5055% of respondents disapprove of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, even though he has been in
10:54office for less than three weeks.
10:56Most French citizens reject President Macron for what they consider a violation of the
11:00republican tradition in the country, allowing the installation of a conservative government,
11:04ignoring the result of parliamentary elections that pointed to the formation of a left-wing
11:09government.
11:10And in Martinique, several hundred people continue to protest against the high cost
11:18of living despite the curfew imposed by the authorities.
11:21Since last Friday, Prefect Jean-Christophe Bouvier has ordered a ban on rallies as part
11:25of the fourth day of protests, but the villagers denounce that the authorities are perpetrating
11:29colonial methods of repression.
11:32Martinique's population also denounced that food is 40% more expensive than in mainland
11:36France, a discontent that is expressed by several dozen people blocking two supermarkets
11:40in the city of Defrancois.
11:42Despite Bouvier's orders to deploy more security forces to increase the number of arrests,
11:46the protests have not been quelled.
11:53We are simple and concise.
11:55Today, we have speed cameras like in France, the same fines, the same prisons, the same
12:00taxes if not more.
12:02We have the octre de mer tax, the same roads, the same ID cards, the same passports.
12:08So why should it be different when it comes to food?
12:10Why do they insist on showing us that we are not French when it comes to food prices?
12:15Either we are 100% French, or we are not.
12:19We believe we are French, so we are asking that food prices be aligned with those in
12:23mainland France.

12:53Welcome back.
13:01The United Nations has raised its alarm level, the large-scale assault by rapid support forces
13:06on the city of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur.
13:09UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged the leader of the armed group, Mohamed Hamdan
13:14Takalo, to act responsibly and stop the attack.
13:18Guterres said it was inconceivable that the warring parties have repeatedly ignored calls
13:22for cessation of hostilities and he reminded them of their obligation under international
13:27humanitarian law to protect civilians.
13:29The UN Secretary-General insisted on the need for a ceasefire in all conflict zones in Sudan,
13:33while warning that any escalation could spread the conflict along inter-municipal lines throughout
13:37Darfur.
13:42And we have no effective global response to emerging, complex, and even existential threats.
13:49The climate crisis is destroying lives, devastating communities, and ravaging economies.
13:58And we all know the solution, a just phase-out of fossil fuels.
14:02And yet emissions are still rising.
14:07New technologies, including AI, are being developed in a moral and legal vacuum, without
14:13governance or guardrails.
14:17The UN called for support to the ceasefire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
14:22The head of the UN Department of Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, insisted on the need
14:27to support diplomatic efforts to implement the ceasefire agreed between the Democratic
14:30Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, in order to restore peace in the country.
14:34Lacroix also urged all armed groups to disarm unconditionally, to give a chance to the ongoing
14:39political process.
14:40The head of the Peace Operations Department also held meetings with political actors,
14:44civil society, including religious denominations, the diplomatic community, and representatives
14:49of UNCs and program agencies.

15:09the three countries with the most reported cases of Mpox are the Democratic Republic
15:13of the Congo, with 21,835 suspected cases and 717 deaths, Burundi with 1,498 suspected
15:22cases, and Nigeria with 935 suspected cases and no deaths.
15:27The agency also declared an international health emergency on August 14 and warned of
15:32the existence of a new STD, which can be transmitted by close contact with skin.
15:44Sri Lanka will hold for the first time in its history a second election recount after
15:48none of the top candidates received more than 50% of the direct support of the electorate.
15:53This Electoral Commissioner will only consider candidates Aruna Kumaredi Sanayake, who received
15:59the highest number of votes, 42.31%, and Sajith Premadasa, with the second highest number
16:05of votes, 32.76%.
16:06It is important to note that the elections are governed by a preferential voting model,
16:12in which voters can choose up to three candidates in order of preference.
16:16If at the end of the recount, none of the candidates obtains more than 50% of the votes,
16:20the votes in which they were second and third choices will be added.
16:23In Argentina, scores of firefighters are battling several forest fires ravaging through
16:46the province of Córdoba.
16:47On Saturday, authorities reported that emergency teams drawing from over 700 firefighters and
16:51brigade members are trying to control active fires that are advancing in different areas
16:56of the province.
16:57Reportedly, the flames reached at least 20 houses, and many neighbors had to be evacuated
17:01from the towns of Los Cocos and Capilla del Monte.
17:05So far this year, 1,500 forest fires have been reported in the province of Córdoba,
17:09most of them over the last three months, which have destroyed 30,000 hectares.
17:16Yesterday, it was a very hard day.
17:21The whole town was an inferno, several houses were burned.
17:25In the afternoon, the fire spread very quickly, despite the effort of local firefighters and
17:31of almost all of Córdoba.
17:35In Ecuador, the government temporarily cuts electricity service for a period of nine hours
17:39in 12 of the country's 24 provinces.
17:41The presidency's general secretary of communications said that electricity service will be suspended
17:46from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time this Sunday.
17:49During this period, the Emergency Operations Committee expects to evaluate the situation
17:53in order to analyze if it is necessary to implement other complementary measures.
17:57The Ecuadorian territory has been suffering from power outages since the end of 2023 due
18:01to the most intense drought in the last 61 years.
18:10And the Polish government has declared a state of emergency in the southwest part of the
18:13country due to floods that have directly affected 57,000 people.
18:18Government authorities warn that the state of emergency declared in 749 localities affects
18:222.3 million inhabitants, of which 6,544 have been evacuated to shelters.
18:28According to the authorities, thousands of infrastructures were affected by the floods,
18:32among them over 11,000 houses and about six public and privately owned institutional buildings.
18:38According to official estimates, the damages so far are estimated in excess of US$1 billion.
18:49In Caracas, capital of Venezuela, the last day of Retail Vent 2024 took place at an event
18:54where technological progress meets the country's commitment with progress.
18:59The International Telecommunications Fair showcased the best technological advances
19:02in the sector.
19:04In this edition, the number of national companies increased from 103 last year to 118, with
19:09almost 200 exhibitors in total.
19:11The event also offered masterclasses, technical demonstrations, and talks that revolve around
19:15the use of artificial intelligence, digital marketing, and how to humanize technology.
19:20Retail Vent also served as a platform for the signing of more than 10 cooperation and
19:25healthy competition agreements between large and small companies.
19:34We believe that today is a great opportunity to work for all Venezuelans so that they can
19:38look inward and see that here we are developing a technological change, an implementation
19:42of a optic fiber network of more than 10 million strands that will probably reach 20 million
19:47fiber points in the next five years.
19:49I am extremely excited, and I am aware that I am part of this transcendental moment for
19:54the country.
19:55We are changing and changing for the better.
20:04In China, the 11th edition of the Silk Road International Film Festival is on the way
