MSP Edward Mountain has asked health secretary Neil Gray if there is a way to somehow improve Highland Maternity services.

All work on new NHS Scotland infrastructure was halted by the government, including improvements to Raigmore Hospital.

00:00 The Scottish Government, to solve the Moray maternity issue, promised £5 million investment
00:06 in Raigmore's maternity unit. That is now on hold. I do not see what the Government
00:11 are going to say to Keir Starmer and others who might have to travel four hours in labour
00:15 to get to a maternity hospital in Aberdeen or Perth. Will the Cabinet Secretary work
00:21 with me to see whether there is a way of resolving this issue and making sure that the investment
00:25 in Raigmore, which is long overdue, is continued?
00:28 I appreciate the question from Edward Mountain, and I well appreciate the situation that he
00:37 has described as incredibly challenging. I cannot give a direct commitment in terms of
00:41 the investment of Raigmore, but I can commit to his suggestion of working with him to see
00:46 whether anything more can be done to ameliorate some of the difficulties that women in his region
00:54 are facing. I will be more than happy to follow up with him on that point in due course.
