Nottingham maternity review chair says change is happening

  • last year
A year into her review of maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Donna Ockenden has insisted improvement work is happening “in the here and now”.

The healthcare leader said: “We won’t shirk with our findings, we will be open and honest … the learning that needs to happen is happening as we progress our work, it won’t be a very long, lengthy wait for the learning and the change to happen in Nottingham’s maternity services.” Report by Buseld. 00:00 improvement work at Nottingham's maternity services is happening in the here and now.
00:04 We have a strict structure in place where I meet with the executive team every eight
00:09 weeks, I feed back with family permission what I have heard and then I look again at
00:15 what they've done in response to those concerns. We're at an early stage of our work. What
00:21 I will say to local families and the Trust know this too, we won't shirk with our findings.
00:29 We will be open and honest and transparent with our findings. If there is a need for
00:35 trust wide accountability or individual accountability, we will absolutely say that. We don't make
00:40 recommendations, we make immediate and essential actions so we're very clear that what we say
00:45 must happen, must happen. I want to say to families a big thank you, a huge thank you
00:52 from my review team and me for ensuring that this review took place. I think that's really
00:57 important and to reassure local residents that the learning that needs to happen is
01:02 happening as we progress our work. It won't be a very long lengthy wait for the learning
01:08 and the change to happen in Nottingham's maternity services.
