What Mississippi State baseball needs to improve on following eight games into the regular season.
Transcript
00:00 Mississippi State's baseball team is sitting at a 4-4 overall record so far this year,
00:04 after taking 2-3 in a three-game series over Georgia Southern this past weekend.
00:09 Now, although it's still early in the season,
00:11 this is what the Diamond Dogs need to improve on in order to get ahead in the SEC this year.
00:16 Now, a lot of times the Bulldogs' bats have not woken up.
00:19 Through eight games this season,
00:20 the Bulldogs have a 278 batting average while having a 396 on-base percentage.
00:26 Now, going back to games like this week from Austin Peay the other week,
00:29 it's clear the offense needs a lot of improvement before the team enters the harder part of the schedule later this year.
00:35 Also, pitching, while seemingly improved from last season under new pitching coach Justin Parker,
00:40 also needs some work, especially from the bullpen.
00:42 There are times, especially in the Austin Peay series, where the Bulldogs had opportunities to close it out,
00:47 but pitching mistakes from the bullpen, in addition to the sleepy offense,
00:51 has caused a lot of late-game collapses so far this season.
00:55 Now, again, it's still early in the season, but there's still a lot to improve on.
00:59 But these are two glaring issues for the team so far this year,
01:03 and this is what they need to improve on in order to contend.
01:06 They're back at it again this Tuesday when they host Jackson State in Duty Noble Field at 3 p.m.
