00:00 Rain is the main problem for farmers whenever there is a flood.

00:04 That's why the Department of Agriculture is studying a solution.

00:10 To help the farmers, the DA is planning to conduct a cloud seeding operation in Region 2.

00:19 This is a mitigating measure where the airplane will fly for 2 kilometers

00:24 to pour salt on the clouds to make it rain.

00:26 Salt is hygroscopic in nature.

00:30 When we say hygroscopic, it has the ability to attract moisture.

00:36 If we dispense salt from above,

00:39 when it reaches the surface, it will attract moisture.

00:43 But before pouring salt, the Doppler radar uses the salt

00:48 to determine if the cloud is a seedable cloud or if it has moisture.

00:52 The direction of the wind is also studied to estimate where the rain will fall.

00:57 There are dry clouds.

00:59 So that means even if you pour a few kilos of salt,

01:03 if the clouds are dry, it will not fall.

01:06 But there are clouds that are rich in moisture content.

01:09 The cost is P80,000 to P100,000 for a day of cloud seeding operation.

01:14 It's expensive, but the benefit is greater when it rains on the dry land.
