Listen carefully to the words of the US Ambassador to India
@ericgarcetti
when he visited Sri Harmandir Sahib and the respect shown towards the Sikh people (Kaum). He said it was a dream come true!

He wrote in the visitor book:

“There are a few places in the world that are truly sacred – this Golden Temple is right there at the top of that list. You feel not only the holiness of this place but how the generous service of the people define not only the world as it is but as it can be. May the deep friendships between the United States and Sikhism always bring peace to our world. With deep respect and friendships.”

00:00 My mother and father came here to the Golden Temple when they were just married in their
00:08 twenties.
00:09 And as a child, they told me stories of coming to this beautiful place, a place where not
00:15 only you could feel its beauty, but you could see its beauty.
00:20 And it's been a dream of mine to come to the Golden Temple ever since I was a little boy.
00:24 Today that dream came true.
00:25 And I want to thank Mr. President and the hosts that I've had here who welcomed me not
00:31 just as a friend of the Sikh community, of the Punjabi community, but just as a friend
00:37 of humanity and who showed me that this place isn't just a sacred spot because of what it
00:43 represents, not just because of the history of the past, but the way that it makes service
00:49 and beauty come alive now.
00:52 I was happy to wash some dishes alongside my brothers, to be able to see the kitchen
00:58 which feeds so many people, and most of all, to feel inside the inner sanctum with the
01:03 beautiful music what the spirit of this place is all about.
01:08 And it makes me want to redouble my efforts to bring peace into this world and to bring
01:12 prosperity for everybody.
01:13 So thank you so much for the opportunity.
01:16 I have only one question, that what is your opinion about the contribution of Sikhs in
01:22 your country?
01:23 You know, I come from California, which is maybe a part of so many Sikh families' history.
01:31 In fact, the very first member of the United States Congress to be elected was elected
01:36 from California in 1953, a Sikh immigrant who came to Southern California where I'm
01:41 from.
01:42 I grew up going to the Gurdwara with my father.
01:44 I've always had a very close relationship with the Sikh community.
01:48 And to me, to see, to come here to the heart, the living, breathing heart of the Sikh religion
01:53 is a dream come true.
01:55 And for me, I think it represents the peace that we've always brought between the United
01:58 States, the Sikh people, the Sikh religion, and the Sikh message that everybody is our
02:03 brother and sister.
02:04 Thank you so much.
