Mississippi State has struggled at the plate in the first nine games.
Transcript
00:00 The Mississippi State baseball team has gotten off to an uninspiring
00:04 5-4 record to start off the season and to the surprise of many the consistent issue is with the hitting
00:12 not the pitching.
00:14 Overall the offense has been doing pretty good for Mississippi State as they are batting
00:20 .296 as a team and averaging close to eight runs per game.
00:26 However, Mississippi State has been quite boring with the extra base hits as they are slugging
00:32 .418 as a team with only 17 doubles and five home runs.
00:38 Another issue with this lineup is it is top-heavy as the consistent 1-4 hitters are batting
00:46 .393 while the 5-9 hitters are batting
00:50 .275. This cannot continue for Mississippi State in
00:56 conference play because if you rely on only four guys in the lineup, it will be a long season.
01:02 Perhaps the biggest issue for Mississippi State is their inability to get clutch hits.
01:09 The Bulldogs have been walked 53 times and have only have
01:14 64 RBIs on the season.
01:17 The pitching staff is supposed to be rebuilding so they will falter at some point and when they do
01:24 if the offense continues to be unreliable, it will be another very long season at Duty-Noble Field.
