00:12 Welcome back to another episode of Getting the Upper Land.
00:16 I'm your livestock editor, Rebecca Naj.
00:18 Now these episodes are going to look a little different going forward.
00:22 We're still going to give a rundown of our top stories,
00:24 but we also plan on taking a look at the week ahead.
00:27 Plus, I'm going to introduce Oxley.
00:30 Who the hell is Oxley?
00:32 But more on him later.
00:34 Making news this week, Victorian stud Banquet Angus
00:37 has broken the state record after selling a bull for $230,000
00:42 to Bannaby Angus here in New South Wales.
00:45 The sale is an interesting time.
00:47 In the last week, Texas Angus and Wilmot Cattle Company
00:51 have also headed down to Victoria to purchase bulls.
00:54 We also have a wrap on the Great Southern Supreme Merino,
00:58 which was held in Bacchus for the first time.
01:00 The event attracted about 230 entries,
01:03 but it was Amerigoneeram that took the overall supreme exhibit.
01:08 And keep an eye out too, I have a report coming on the Central West U Comp.
01:13 It was a good competition and congratulations to the Crouch family,
01:17 though the day wasn't without its hiccups.
01:21 [Motor running]
01:34 And I'm going to throw now to my co-host, Elke Devney.
01:37 She's based in our Dubbo office and covers everything from cattle
01:41 right through to cropping.
01:44 Thanks for the intro, Bec.
01:46 I too also had the pleasure of meeting the Crouch family
01:49 at the Don Brown Memorial Year Competition late last week.
01:52 It was fantastic to see eight high-quality entries
01:55 from across the Condobolin region throw their hat in the ring
01:58 during the competition.
02:00 Now this week we've also covered the biggest expansion
02:03 of public preschools in state history,
02:06 which was recently announced by the New South Wales Government.
02:09 However, of the 100 new locations announced,
02:12 only 31 of those lie outside of the Newcastle,
02:15 Sydney and Wollongong area.
02:18 I also caught up on farm this week with Warren grower Sinclair Steel
02:23 for a chat about how his transition to siphonless irrigation
02:26 has been an absolute success.
02:29 On Friday we also saw an uptick in numbers at the Dubbo store sale
02:33 with more than 2,400 head yarded.
02:36 The increase in numbers was also met with spirited bidding,
02:40 which was great to see.
02:42 Back to you, Bec.
02:44 Thanks, Elke.
02:45 And coming up this week, as always, we have plenty of sales,
02:49 including Dunoon Angus on Monday.
02:51 There's also the evaluation shearing of the Australian Merino
02:55 production trial down at Temora.
02:57 That's on Thursday and Friday.
03:00 But now time to introduce our anonymous, tongue-in-cheek,
03:05 roving reporter, Oxley.
03:08 Who the hell is Oxley?
03:12 That is the question on everyone's lips.
03:16 A great question it is, but unfortunately I do not have the answer.
03:20 Being the first time Oxley has been on camera,
03:22 he has provided this statement.
03:24 Who you are hearing right now is a paid actor who I've commissioned
03:28 to convert my column into an audiovisual medium each week.
03:32 And before we properly commence, I must say this.
03:35 Do not try to find this actor.
03:37 He knows absolutely nothing when it comes to my identity.
03:41 Oxley has been contacting the actor via encrypted messages only.
03:46 So don't waste your time.
03:48 Anywho, on to the column, or I guess segment is what we should
03:52 start calling it now.
03:54 Oxley's associate kept a Riverina rice farmer amused during a recent
03:58 farm visit.
03:59 After putting on gumboots, the pair proceeded into the crop with
04:02 the farmer powering ahead, while the reporter was doing a good
04:05 impression of the kindergarten game stuck in the mud.
04:08 Once the photo was taken, they went back out, but not before a gumboot
04:12 got fully bogged and the reporter fell over, pulling out a rice plant
04:16 or two in the process.
04:18 Thankfully, the camera, phone and notebook were all saved from going
04:22 for a swim.
04:23 That's it from me.
04:25 Until next week, toodaloo.
