Couple Lyndsey and Jonathan have received a lot of judgement for their difference in size and Lyndsey’s extremely young-looking features. People often assume that Lyndsey, age 22, is a child and the pair are in an underage relationship. However, Lyndsey’s tiny size is due to a rare form of cancer she was diagnosed with at the age of five. The cancer caused her hormones to stop working and meant she didn’t grow taller than 4ft10. The couple have to deal with stares and whispers in public (Jonathan is a whole foot taller at 5ft10) but they receive most of their negative comments from trolls online. Jonathan says “it can be hard but because we love one another we just push it to one side”.

00:00 My first impression of Lindsay was, I honestly thought she was 12 or 13.
00:04 Lindsay's size didn't bother me, because everyone comes in all shapes and sizes, don't they?
00:08 One, Lindsay was heavily pregnant at the time and we get people shouting at us and stuff like that.
00:13 The pregnancy video, the one that went completely viral,
00:16 I had some of the hate comments, "She'll not be a good mum because she just looks like a child."
00:21 I'm just like, "Yeah, I know. I know I look like that. What do you expect me to say?"
00:27 We both met at Lindsay's dad's garage where I used to work.
00:31 You walked into the office, didn't you?
00:33 And I was like, "I want him."
00:37 I literally fell in love as soon as I saw him.
00:39 My first impression of Lindsay was, I honestly thought she was 12 or 13.
00:43 I got quite concerned when her mum asked me one day, "John, how old are you? Are you single?"
00:50 And she was like, "John, this is Lindsay. Lindsay, this is John."
00:53 That was it, wasn't it? And then we started talking.
00:55 And then you asked how old I was.
00:57 And I told you I was 16.
01:01 And then I told you my story and that changed how you saw me, didn't it?
01:05 I think, yeah.
01:07 Growing up in my condition was pretty difficult.
01:09 When I was in school and I lost my head to chemotherapy, no boy really wanted to be with me.
01:15 A lot of people go, "Oh no, she's way too small for me. I don't want someone that's super skinny and looks like a twig."
01:22 Which really obviously knocked my confidence in finding a relationship and falling in love.
01:29 I was told I would never get pregnant.
01:31 If I did, I'd be trying for ages, like years, and I'd probably have to have IVF.
01:37 It would never happen naturally.
01:39 Once, I was like, "I'm not coming on my time with my mum."
01:43 And we looked at the test and it was so positive.
01:45 We were just like, "No, don't believe that."
01:47 Went to the shops and bought like 20 more tests because I just didn't believe it, did we?
01:51 And we took it to mum straight away and I was like, "I'm pregnant."
01:56 I was told by midwives, etc., that it was going to be horrendous for me.
02:01 I was probably going to be constantly sick.
02:04 I was going to be in agony because I was so small.
02:06 And I carried him until 39 weeks and one day, and then I had a planned C-section.
02:12 Having Slane is like the best thing ever, isn't it?
02:15 He's amazing.
02:16 Yeah, he's amazing.
02:17 He's the happiest, cheekiest little boy ever.
02:21 And he just has made me feel and grow more confident.
02:26 The pregnancy video, the one that went completely viral,
02:31 I had some of the hate comments.
02:32 "She'll not be a good mum because she just looks like a child."
02:36 "One way to get a council house."
02:38 So I replied with a video just basically saying that we don't have a council house.
02:42 We own our own house, but even if we did, why would it matter?
02:45 Because at the end of the day, I think it's a wonderful thing that's offered to people that generally do need it.
02:50 "Oh, she looks 12," or "She looks 13," or whatever.
02:54 And I'm just like, "Yeah, I know. I know I look like that."
02:57 "What do you expect me to say?"
02:58 "Why are you being so nasty? I can't help that I look like him."
03:01 People say and assume in our relationship that John sees me as a child.
03:07 And that we can't be as happy as we are.
03:12 It can be hard sometimes, but because we know we love one another, it's quite easy to push to one side.
03:19 One time we went out to Exmouth just for a nice day out on the beach.
03:23 Lynda was heavily pregnant at the time, and we get people shouting at us to do stuff like that.
03:28 It can be difficult. It sometimes feels like, "Do I really want to go out?"
03:32 What size is that?
03:36 16 years.
03:40 They're quite nice, actually.
03:42 What age were these?
03:44 They're 10 years.
03:45 Yeah. It's quite funny.
03:47 They actually fit on the waist quite nicely.
03:49 Yeah, but they've got a belt as well. They were a bit loose without the belt.
03:53 That's nice. I like those, actually.
03:55 With a white T-shirt on, they'd be nice, wouldn't they?
03:58 Definitely, yeah.
03:59 I wish it was easier, obviously.
04:02 Having adult-looking clothes that fit in nicely, like petite.
04:05 I just think it's short.
04:07 I don't like it.
04:10 How did you get on?
04:12 Was it nice just having a try on?
04:14 Yeah, definitely.
04:15 Do you feel like you can't?
04:17 Yeah, sometimes.
04:18 Sometimes you get fed up because I can never find something that fits me.
04:22 It's annoying.
04:23 Stop trying, then.
04:25 Yeah.
04:26 Otherwise, I've either got to pay a lot of money to get something that fits me, or nothing fits me at all.
04:32 It's really annoying.
04:34 It's frustrating.
04:35 Yeah.
04:37 So, the shopping trip today was okay.
04:40 It's a shame, really, because obviously there was no adult clothing that would have fitted me.
04:47 I had to look in the teens range.
04:49 They were all age 10.
04:51 Yeah.
04:52 Yeah, apart from the T-shirt, which was age 13.
04:54 At the end of the day, we are all completely different.
04:57 If we were all the same, it would just be so boring.
05:00 The size doesn't bother me, because everyone comes in all shapes and sizes, don't they?
05:04 Love comes in all shapes and sizes.
05:06 shapes and sizes. Definitely, yeah.
