00:00 First of all, hats off to Virginia Tech.
00:05 Thought they played hard.
00:06 They came out, hit us in the mouth first.
00:09 They were the aggressors.
00:11 Ran the offense really hard with great pace.
00:15 Put us on our heels.
00:16 Before we knew it, we were down 10 or 2, 10 to 2 or something like that.
00:21 I thought we did a good job of trying to fight back.
00:26 We got the game within 10.
00:28 We took a shot and we got it to 10.
00:33 Then we came down and how did we get it to 10 with two post-up plays?
00:38 Then we came down and took a shot.
00:41 At the end of the day, young players are going to make mistakes
00:44 and we have to learn from it and grow from it.
00:48 But those mistakes are costly in the heat of a battle like this
00:53 where you work so hard to get it back within range
00:56 where you can make a run and you make those kind of mistakes.
01:00 That's not good.
01:02 I thought Brandon fought hard, played hard.
01:06 He did some good things out there, but we needed more.
01:11 That's not all on him.
01:13 I think it's a little bit on all of us as coaches, players, and the like
01:18 when we have a bunch of guys that didn't play well
01:23 and knowing what this game meant for us.
01:27 Questions?
01:30 Yeah, Kenny, when you guys did make that run in the second half,
01:33 you had Danilo in there and Zan, three starters on the bench.
01:38 Were you just trying to shake it up and get some energy
01:40 and get some guys that had some positive vibes about them?
01:44 You know what?
01:46 Demo deserves to play.
01:48 So if a guy is on the court and he's not playing with energy
01:51 and his spirit is off, I've got to put him in.
01:55 And I have to apologize to him for not putting him in before
01:59 because I want him to play.
02:01 He comes to work every day.
02:02 He tries hard.
02:03 He don't have to be perfect for me,
02:05 but if you try hard and your spirit is in the right place, you deserve to play.
02:10 I would have liked to put Nathan in the game as well.
02:13 I don't care about anything other than who's going to fight to try to win a game.
02:19 Talent level means nothing.
02:21 So I need to send that message to guys that you can decide that you're going to be
02:26 gifted minutes, but that's not the reality.
02:29 If you don't play hard and you don't play for your teammates, you have to come out.
02:34 Yeah, Kenny, it took about, I guess, 13 minutes for a second starter,
02:40 a guy named Brandon, to score tonight.
02:42 I think it was Mike's three there late with about seven minutes to go.
02:45 I'm just wondering why did the starters struggle so much?
02:48 I heard a skip point, it seemed like they were on a jump shot,
02:51 it's early to that.
02:52 Was that something that bothered you?
02:54 Of course.
02:56 In the locker room, Coach Maddy talked about it.
02:59 I'm consistently talking about it.
03:02 We are third in the ACC at getting to the free throw line.
03:05 We are a paint-touch team.
03:08 We have great spacing.
03:09 We attack you.
03:11 Multiple drives, ball movement, get the ball in the paint,
03:14 and we cause team tapping.
03:16 When we get away from that and we just leave the ball on the perimeter
03:20 and then shoot jump shots, we're not the same team.
03:24 That means we're shooting contested shots that are not in the flow.
03:28 It's hard for them to digest that.
03:30 We've been harping on it all year.
03:33 We're going to continue to harp on it.
03:35 [Indistinct talking]
03:39 More questions from Coach?
03:43 Okay.
03:44 All right, thank you all.
