London's Walking and Cycling Commissioner on new cycleway in Southwark

Transport for London (TfL) and Southwark Council have completed work on section of a cycleway that runs from London Bridge to Greenwich.

London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner Will Norman says TfL has quadrupled London's cycle network since 2016.

00:00 Yeah, we're here in Southwark to announce the completion of this section of cycleway 4.
00:05 That's a new cycle route for London that runs all the way from London Bridge
00:08 all the way down to Greenwich and then beyond into Woolwich and Plumstead.
00:12 But this marks a massive milestone for London more generally.
00:16 We've quadrupled the size of the cycle network across the city.
00:21 So that's going from about 90 kilometres decent cycle lane in 2016 when Sadiq became mayor
00:26 to over 360 by the end of that month.
00:29 And this is having a huge impact on people.
00:31 More and more people are cycling because they feel safe because of the infrastructure.
00:36 We now have about 1.26 million bike journeys being made on average on a daily basis across London.
00:42 Now that's good for our environment, that's good for our health and that's good for our city.
