Today we visit a local school for the unveiling of a unique seagull mural and hear from primary school pupils about the one-of-a-kind seagull project between Hannah More School and We The Curious. But why is it so unique?

00:31 Behind me is a mural which has lots of seagulls and there's a lot of detail to it actually
00:39 and I like how it's about mostly Bristol and seagulls and all that.
00:46 I thought it was really cool.
00:47 At first she started off with just white and me and my friends were like 'what is happening?'
00:53 and then she added these weird letters.
00:56 We did watch parts but we were too busy playing.
01:01 Alex the designer painted everything and it's just shocking that she did it by herself actually.
01:08 But the mural means more to the school than just a piece of artwork.

01:16 Hannah Moore Primary School has about 250 children.
01:19 It's a very diverse school.
01:21 We've got about 60 languages spoken.
01:23 Predominantly our community is 60% Somali.
01:28 The mural has been such an exciting project and the children have got so much from it.
01:33 It came from basically a partnership we had with We The Curious and that started in response
01:40 to a neighbour who had problems with seagulls.
01:44 We were talking about seagulls and of course We The Curious were talking about seagulls
01:47 because their fire was quite possibly started by a seagull.
01:51 So we started doing a lot of science around how many seagulls are we getting here, why
01:55 are they here.
01:56 We had a seagull expert come in and then with Julian from We The Curious he said 'well actually
02:01 I've got an artist who might be able to create a mural.'
02:05 So then we did some really exciting work with the children.
02:08 They did workshops, they created sketches.
02:11 We're always looking to work with communities in Bristol and I've been looking for schools
02:17 that I can work with on projects.
02:18 I'm trying to create projects where the children come up with the ideas and the questions and
02:24 they contribute to the projects more than just turning up and delivering something.
02:32 The mural depicts all the key parts of Bristol including the Clifton Suspension Bridge and
02:37 the city's affiliation with seagulls.
02:39 They wanted the kind of swirly rather than a square.
02:42 They chose that they wanted those colour palettes rather than another colour.
02:46 They chose the 'Birds View' title so they're seeing the work that they've done come into
02:54 fruition.
02:55 I think it's especially important for the school to probably stop pollution and help
03:00 birds and mostly saving the world.
