Analyzing whether the San Francisco 49ers will re-sign backup quarterback Sam Darnold.
Transcript
00:00 Maybe some team is gonna make Sam Darnold's dreams come true, but more likely
00:05 he'll be hanging around in the free agent market. Do you think he's coming back?
00:10 And if so, should we throw a parade? No, and no, like I don't think he's coming back
00:17 because I think he's actually going to garner more money on the open market than what we can pay him.
00:23 That's one. Two, he did have some time on the field. And one thing that I will say is that
00:31 for what he didn't do, it does wonders for a quarterback to kind of fall off of the space
00:38 for a while and be on a really good team and kind of have coaches and everything buzzing around you
00:44 when you're trying to get to a new team. If Sam is on the market, the questions are going to be,
00:47 well, how was he in practice? I mean, what kind of practice players was Sam? Did he really fix his
00:53 mechanics? How's his decision-making? Somebody's going to take a fielder on him and actually get
00:58 him in a bad, not a bad situation, but maybe a team, a bad team in a situation where they can
01:03 get him on the field. And he might be the next guy. I mean, honestly, I could see Sam being the next
01:09 second string quarterback looming over a rookie who a team doesn't really have confidence in.
01:15 And they're like, well, we got Sam. So I kind of feel like that's his role. He can kind of
01:19 rinse and repeat in my opinion, but not here. Not for that money. I think we paid him under,
01:25 I think we paid him without knowing exactly what we're going to get out of Brock.
01:30 Had we known what type of season Brock was going to have this year, Sam Donald's not here. Like
01:36 all of the signing on the first day of free agency, giving them contingencies with money up front,
01:42 like making sure that he feels like a starter, taking them to the court side games. Like none
01:47 of that crap has happened anymore. Good point. That's a great point. So now that Donald sees
01:51 that Brock Purdy's fully entrenched, healthy MVP candidate, yada, yada, yada. Maybe he'd rather,
01:57 if all things are, if he still wants to play, maybe he goes somewhere else. Also, I think the
02:02 allure with Donald for another team, isn't necessarily what he showed on the field last
02:07 year. Cause he didn't show much, didn't play that much, but like the fact that he may know this
02:09 system. So teams that run versions of it may see, Hey, we'll take Donald as a backup quarterback.
02:16 But that'd be like, to me last year when he lost to Carson Wentz,
02:20 I just went to better than Donald. No, no disrespect to Donald. I don't understand why
02:26 any team would, would sign Donald before wins. Who's also free agent.
02:31 Okay. Yeah. But you know, it is one of one, but the point that you just made, I really feel like
02:38 does stick. Like there are codes of, there are sex, if you will, of like,
02:46 yeah, there are like sex of, uh, like the scheme where, you know, he's going to be more desirable
02:52 to Miami, the jets, the Rams, Atlanta, uh, Minnesota green Bay. You know what I'm saying?
03:00 Yeah. Cleveland. So it's kind of like, he, he kind of got himself into like the club now,
03:05 like he's keep circulating. Now people will be like, Oh, well, it's like,
03:08 just learn JavaScript. It's like, yeah, I actually, uh, I'm pretty hirable, you know,
03:13 you know, I know how to code now. So, you know, I'm absolutely pretty,
03:16 I've optimized my skillset actually, you know, so that's exactly what he did. I went to a bootcamp,
03:23 I went to the Kyle, Santa and bootcamp. I learned skiing and now I'm pretty good at it.
03:27 Kind of diversified. And you know, now I'm desirable across my skillset. I, it's got his
03:32 kind of what you got to do. You take two steps back to take four steps forward. I don't know
03:35 what to tell you. It's professional development. Everybody's got to learn how to be a professional
03:41 at one, at one moment or another, you know, and Kyle Shanahan system did wonders for me.
03:47 All right. 10 easy installments of 99 95. They set you up, you sit back. It's a,
03:55 it's an amazing program. Class personified. You sound like the dude in those skits and
04:00 the cause dropout. Yeah.
