00:00 Some economists are concerned that many businesses will close if the 150 pesos added to the minimum wage is approved.

00:10 We have first news from Jonathan Andal.

00:12 The congressmen asked the employers how much they can increase for the minimum wage earners.

00:23 The gate of the businessmen is not yet open for the legislative wage hike because they are still recovering from the pandemic.

00:30 If their workers' wages will increase, they ask the government to give them subsidies.

00:35 We requested for maybe an intervention from government to subsidize an inflationary increase.

00:43 If the minimum wage is increased, some businesses may close and the inflation will increase.

00:48 But some economists are against it.

00:51 There are no record of closures because of wage increases.

00:58 I have not seen that because of wage increases, the inflation has increased.

01:07 Maybe there is a partial increase.

01:10 I am sure that we cannot say that there will be a catastrophe if the wages increase.

01:17 The workers are adamant. We will not ask for a labis because the 150 pesos that we are asking for,

01:26 if we add it to 610 pesos, it will not exceed 1,000 pesos.

01:32 Next week, the members of the committee are expected to vote on the legislative wage hike and they will decide on the amount.
