00:00 Spring is here and that means the allergies are upon us.
00:05 And who better to help us to relieve our allergy pain than allergenist Dr. Julia Wendt.
00:09 And good morning, doctor.
00:10 Good morning, Brad.
00:11 You can hear my voice.
00:12 I think we hear a lot of people's voices this time of year.
00:15 They start to change.
00:16 They get, you know, very congested.
00:18 And everyone's like, "Oh my God, they must be sick.
00:21 They must be, oh my goodness, dying."
00:23 But no, it's our allergies.
00:25 Correct.
00:26 So it's spring, all our flowers are blooming, the desert gets drier.
00:30 And so how do we get through this time?
00:33 Right.
00:34 Well, find an allergist.
00:37 But before you do, figure out what you're allergic to, close up the house, take all
00:43 precautions, take off your shoes at the door, wipe your pets down when they come in, close
00:49 the doors and windows, let the air conditioning and heat do the work for you, take showers
00:53 at night so you're not rolling around in a pollen field.
00:56 Yeah.
00:57 So those are the kind of things.
00:59 So what's really being, can we say, attacked in our allergies?
01:02 Is it our sinuses?
01:04 Is it our throat?
01:05 Or is it all combined?
01:07 Yes, yes.
01:08 And it depends on the person and how they respond to their specific allergies.
01:12 So for some people, sinusitis, headaches, fatigue, asthma attacks, flares of eczema,
01:21 but also a post nasal drip, runny nose, itchy, red, runny eyes, the classic hay fever that
01:26 we all see.
01:27 Yeah.
01:28 And we know there's, I mean, probably, I'm going to give just alone, my mother has a
01:32 thousand remedies herself of what to do, you know, but we should really come see you before
01:38 we start trying all those different medicines or even the remedies.
01:43 I think my mom said honey on the tongue for an hour.
01:46 I don't understand that one.
01:47 I think the other one she said is take a cold shower and then run outside for 10 minutes,
01:52 come back in and take a warm shower and then run around the house, you know, for 30 minutes
01:57 and it takes care of everything.
01:58 That's the kind of stuff you hear, right?
02:00 Right.
02:01 I think that's another way of just deal with it is what she's saying.
02:06 I love those home remedies, but if you find they're not working or you're taking so much
02:10 medicine that they're toxic, or maybe you can't, I have a whole host of patients that
02:15 for one reason or another, they really can't take nasal sprays or antihistamines.
02:19 They're contraindicated with their other medical conditions.
02:22 So those are all good reasons to come see an allergist.
02:25 At least figure out what you're allergic to, see if it correlates with your symptoms and
02:30 get definitive treatment.
02:31 Asthma, big thing there.
02:34 And what has been happening with asthma patients, because I'm one of them kind of, is that they've
02:38 been changing our flow max and different things now.
02:41 So when the insurance company are not accepting them and, you know, you're not able to find
02:45 things, so how should someone do that?
02:46 Should that be something they should start to stock up on or really go talk to someone?
02:51 Well, talk to someone, but also look up insurance benefits.
02:55 What is tier one?
02:57 What is not tier one?
02:59 What would they pay for?
03:01 We can substitute all sorts of generics.
03:04 There's also discount pharmacy prescriptions, good RX and what have you.
03:11 So we can, we, I've been doing this for a long time.
03:14 We, and we're seeing it more and more.
03:16 So we just redirect patients to use those benefits.
03:20 Then coming to see you, very important.
03:22 That's where it really starts.
03:23 After you've talked about a little bit, come see you.
03:26 And of course you find the different allergies people are allergic to.
03:29 So they'll be so surprised, right, what it is.
03:31 You know, every now and then I'm really surprised, you know, someone is very allergic or someone
03:37 is not allergic and they're taking medication with all these side effects.
03:41 So I like diagnosing either one.
03:43 I think it's beneficial for patients.
03:46 And yeah, it's very valuable to know exactly what you're allergic to and then be treated
03:50 to it.
03:51 Yeah, there it is right there.
03:53 Also one thing, I'm going to go ahead and give them a plug here.
03:55 Whoever's out there and they do duck cleaning, start with that because it's all built up.
04:01 And if you can get your ducks cleaned out and get the right ventilation going in the
04:04 house.
04:05 Then you have your ducks in a row.
04:06 That's why Dr. Wen's here.
04:08 That's why Dr. Wen's here.
04:09 Dr. Wen, where can they find more?
04:11 And of course your books and everything.
04:12 www.relieveallergaz.com or they can call us at 480-500-1902.
04:19 We'd be happy to see them.
04:20 Thank you, Brad.
04:21 Thank you, doctor.
