00:00 The Holy Week and the time of faith is about to begin.
00:03 We are joined by the cast of the Sinacolo 2024 film "Translation"
00:10 from St. John Bosco Parish, Atondo.
00:12 The first is Father Gaudencio Carandang Jr., the executive producer of the film.
00:18 Don D. Bernardino is their director.
00:21 Ms. Lea Dasigan, production team member.
00:24 They are also joined by actors like Ronveric Payumo, Nina Sereno, Mary Faith Garate,
00:33 Nino Francisco, and Francis Topia.
00:36 Good morning and welcome to Rising Shine Philippines.
00:39 Good morning.
00:41 For Father Gaudencio,
00:43 the production of the Sinacolo film is the first project of St. John Bosco Parish, Atondo.
00:50 What is the Sinacolo 2024 about this year and what should people look forward to?
00:56 This year is about a devotee of St. John Bosco Parish and his journey in his faith.
01:05 If there is something to look forward to,
01:08 of course, it is the content of the film.
01:10 It is a bit different this year because before,
01:13 we always say that it is like Jesus' life and we enter into his life.
01:20 But now, in the story we made, it is really an ordinary person
01:24 and somehow, Jesus is part of this life.
01:28 So, that is the unique content.
01:29 It is not just a conventional, usual Sinacolo that we watch, that is just for show.
01:35 And of course, what we should look forward to is our effects,
01:39 the beautiful works that we will gradually perfect over time.
01:45 Okay.
01:46 To our RSP,
01:47 Off The Air showed us the preview of the video they made.
01:52 What we showed on the monitor earlier,
01:54 that is what they are doing.
01:56 Behind the scenes.
01:56 Behind the scenes, they are still on the green screen.
01:58 But the final output,
02:00 Oh, it's beautiful.
02:01 It's like a Hollywood movie.
02:03 It's like a Hollywood movie.
02:05 So, let's talk to Director Dondi.
02:07 Director, let's talk about the production process.
02:10 Isn't it hard to direct?
02:12 And how did you come up with the story?
02:16 First, because our movie is CGI and heavy on VFX,
02:22 we researched how we will do it.
02:24 Green screen, how to do chroma keying, and all the technical aspects.
02:28 And we have been doing it for almost half a year.
02:31 So, the first thing we did was to gather production staff
02:35 so that we can make a whole production.
02:38 Because all of them are volunteers,
02:39 we asked for their commitment
02:41 that they have to start and finish the whole production.
02:44 And aside from that,
02:46 we have to learn how to do it
02:49 so that it won't look corny to the audience.
02:51 So, it has to be acceptable to the eyes of the audience.
02:54 That's why we invested in technology
02:58 so that the movie's output will be better.
03:01 In fairness, in terms of acceptability,
03:03 the output is really like a Hollywood movie.
03:06 It's really good.
03:07 But why did you choose the translation as the main theme
03:10 and the title of "Sinapulo 2024"?
03:13 We are aligning it with the direction of the Church.
03:16 The Church's direction is synodality.
03:19 It means the journey together.
03:21 And the translation that we saw,
03:23 or that the Philippines saw,
03:25 is an icon or a picture of the journey together.
03:29 And it's not just one journey,
03:31 it's the whole Nazarene.
03:34 It's the journey with the Lord.
03:36 That's why we chose this
03:37 and we aligned the theme of "Sinapulo" with the translation.
03:40 Okay, Ms. Leia,
03:42 all of you are volunteers, right?
03:46 Yes.
03:47 Okay, this kind of production
03:50 requires commitment, time, and a lot of effort.
03:54 How did you plan and arrange the whole production?
04:00 Yes.
04:01 Because we are volunteers here,
04:03 some are studying, some are working.
04:07 Because most of us are already Senacolists,
04:12 as early as the start of the year,
04:14 we are already getting the commitment
04:16 of each one of us who wants to join.
04:19 There are some who don't join
04:21 in other years of the Senacolo.
04:23 But we see to it that we plan early.
04:27 There will be a small team who will conceptualize the theme
04:30 and come up with the script.
04:32 And of course, once our parish priest would approve
04:35 that we will have our Senacolo,
04:37 the volunteers will gather to start planning.
04:40 This is the earliest time
04:42 when we started our Senacolo.
04:44 It was just the beginning of June last year
04:47 when the script was conceptualized.
04:49 And then we auditioned around August and September.
04:52 We started a series of shootings,
04:55 which we do every weekend.
04:57 So, our Saturdays and Sundays,
04:59 we really committed to it.
05:01 For Senacolo, it was just shootings.
05:03 Because we have classes,
05:05 some are studying, some are working.
05:08 So, it's a weekday, work,
05:09 weekends for the Senacolo, for God.
05:12 Wow, that's great.
05:13 Because for the actors,
05:15 I would like to think this is your passion project
05:17 because considering you are volunteers.
05:20 So, maybe I want to ask Jesus Christ.
05:22 Going up to Jesus Christ.
05:23 Going up to Jesus Christ.
05:26 What is your experience here?
05:29 Although it's really beautiful
05:30 because we saw earlier,
05:32 green screen, it's hard to arch it.
05:35 Considering you can't really feel
05:37 where you are in real life.
05:39 The whole experience is really in your imagination.
05:42 Share with us your experience.
05:45 My experience here is
05:48 I just followed what they asked for in a scene.
05:52 What is the context,
05:54 if you are tired,
05:56 it's normal to deliver lines.
05:58 I just want to know,
05:59 what is the context of this?
06:01 If you are tired,
06:02 give me what I need to see
06:04 that you are really tired.
06:06 I need to feel what I asked for in your scene.
06:09 So, the experience is good.
06:12 First of all,
06:14 you are in this work,
06:15 it's a blessing,
06:17 talent,
06:18 God gave it to you.
06:19 And the people who are with you,
06:22 the people who support you,
06:24 how will you do it?
06:26 I also watched those who came to me as Jesus.
06:30 I also got ideas from them
06:32 and I heard it from other production staff
06:35 and other directors.
06:37 For Nina,
06:38 what is your experience?
06:41 Actually, this journey is a prayerful journey for me
06:44 and for us especially.
06:46 Especially, what I am doing as Maria,
06:49 Mama Mary,
06:51 there is no sin.
06:52 As an individual,
06:55 we are the ones who are at fault.
06:56 Before we went to the scene,
07:00 I read the gospel,
07:02 the good news,
07:03 before I entered that scene.
07:05 So that I can feel
07:07 and the actor can feel it.
07:09 I asked for Mama Mary's help
07:10 to show me spiritually,
07:13 physically and emotionally
07:15 that I am Maria for that film.
07:17 Actually, it was hard for us
07:20 but we believed in God's plan.
07:23 We just did what was needed for the film
07:27 and everything was a blessing.
07:29 Okay.
07:30 Earlier on the monitor,
07:31 we were showing the behind the scenes
07:34 on the green screen.
07:35 But there are also scenes that are shown.
07:36 Yes, we can see the actual output.
07:38 The actual output.
07:40 You thought,
07:41 there, like that.
07:42 You thought they were really in Jerusalem.
07:45 There, that's it.
07:46 We can really see that they are believing.
07:48 In their limited budget,
07:52 they were able to produce this kind of film.
07:55 Indie film.
07:56 Indie film.
07:57 But you, Mary Faith,
07:58 you were born as a new character
08:01 and a devotee.
08:02 How did you give your heart and life
08:06 to the character you played?
08:07 Because it's like there's a cross angle.
08:10 From the Bible story,
08:12 there's also a reality shown in the film.
08:15 And you are the reality.
08:17 The first thing I did was to immerse myself
08:21 in the devotees of our beloved Jesus Nazareno.
08:25 So what we did was,
08:27 we invited the devotees during the shooting.
08:31 We talked to them
08:33 so that I could learn the deep reasons
08:36 for their devotion.
08:38 And I will just add,
08:41 we also shot during the translation
08:45 of the film.
08:49 So I felt the tiredness,
08:52 the heat, the hardship
08:54 of being a devotee of our beloved Jesus Nazareno.
08:58 So you can really see here,
09:00 people can relate
09:02 to the new character
09:04 that the Synocles are presenting
09:06 because they are also a believer
09:10 of our beloved Jesus Nazareno.
09:12 We talked to the other cast members.
09:15 What is your role in this show?
09:19 I am the role of Judas.
09:22 Oh, you are Judas.
09:24 Okay.
09:25 What I did was,
09:27 I asked the director
09:29 about Judas' age,
09:32 his job,
09:33 what he did,
09:35 why he...
09:37 Why he...
09:40 Why he did that sin to Jesus.
09:44 So it was really hard
09:47 to give that character.
09:50 I wasn't there,
09:54 but I wanted to bring out that character
09:58 so that the show would be better.
10:02 The character was given life.
10:04 It's hard, especially if you don't want to be the role.
10:06 Because you betrayed.
10:09 Okay, sir. What was your role?
10:11 I played the role of Pedro.
10:14 St. Peter.
10:15 Yes, St. Peter.
10:16 In preparing for the production staff,
10:20 we had a workshop
10:22 with the production staff
10:23 that we also give to our co-actors.
10:27 The things that the director taught us,
10:29 we also taught to our cast.
10:32 That's it.
10:33 Great.
10:34 So each one of you has an important role
10:36 in this overall production.
10:38 But again, to Father Gudencio,
10:40 what is the message
10:42 that you want to reach the hearts
10:44 of those who are watching this,
10:46 especially if they watched
10:49 the Synaculo 2024?
10:51 Well, we all have a journey
10:54 in our faith.
10:56 And what we really want to reach
10:58 and to reach to the people
11:00 is that we are always sure
11:03 that God is in our lives.
11:06 We don't question that.
11:08 But the question is,
11:09 how long will we cling to God?
11:11 It's easy to cling
11:12 when everything is fine,
11:13 when everything is okay.
11:15 But when we are going through
11:17 a trial,
11:19 especially when you have plans
11:21 that you have been asked for
11:22 and it seems like it's not happening,
11:24 or it seems like there's no hope,
11:26 until when will we cling to God?
11:28 Until the end?
11:29 This is what our Synaculo shows here,
11:32 how long will they cling
11:34 during a trial and a severe problem?
11:37 Okay.
11:38 For Direct Dondi,
11:39 you had an advance screening
11:41 and you saw the reaction
11:43 of the people in your movie.
11:45 Judging from the feedback of the viewers,
11:48 your movie was really successful.
11:50 How does it make you feel?
11:52 And how does it feel to make such an impact?
11:54 It's heart-warming
11:56 to see the people
11:58 affected by what we did.
12:00 It means that our strategy
12:02 is very effective
12:04 and how we send the message to them.
12:07 It's really heart-warming
12:08 to see the impact of what we did.
12:11 Okay.
12:12 I'm sure our viewers,
12:14 our RRSP,
12:15 are interested
12:16 where and when they can watch this.
12:18 Ms. Leia,
12:19 can you tell our viewers
12:22 when they can watch this
12:23 and where they can find it?
12:25 RRSP, you can watch
12:28 our Synaculo
12:29 which was translated
12:31 to our parish,
12:32 St. John Bosco Parish Tondo.
12:34 It will be released this coming Holy Week,
12:36 March 24, Sunday,
12:38 and Good Friday, March 29.
12:40 For more details,
12:42 just like and follow
12:44 our Facebook page,
12:46 Synaculo 2024,
12:47 and our parish's Facebook page,
12:49 St. John Bosco Parish Tondo.
12:51 Let's make our watching of our Synaculo
12:54 a part of our prayer.
12:56 So, this will be a live screening, right?
12:59 Yes.
13:00 But will this be uploaded
13:01 for others to watch?
13:02 Yes.
13:03 It will also be streamed
13:05 to those who are far from us in Tondo.
13:08 You can catch it through our streaming
13:10 on our Facebook page,
13:12 Synaculo 2024.
13:13 For our viewers,
13:15 to make our Holy Week meaningful,
13:19 let's try to watch this.
13:21 Let's watch this
13:22 because maybe this is the only production
13:25 that we are waiting for to change
13:27 or to feel more.
13:29 That's what happened in Synaculo.
13:30 We should be with this
13:31 in our prayer,
13:32 especially in these times.
13:33 We should remember
13:35 the sacrifice of our beloved Lord.
13:38 Again, thank you so much
13:39 for joining us this morning.
13:41 And congrats
13:42 on this beautiful project.
13:44 Especially you, Director.
13:45 I was really amazed
13:46 when I saw the video.
13:47 Me too.
13:48 I want to watch it too, Director.
13:49 I'm getting dirty. (laughs)
