00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:13 Good morning and welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:15 Ugh, I can't even speak. Let's try that again.
00:17 Good morning and welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:24 I am Brad Perry. On this March 28th.
00:27 Yes, and I'm Lexi Romano, also on this March 28th.
00:30 It's Holy Thursday. Maybe that's what I'm having a problem with.
00:33 There you go. You haven't prayed yet?
00:35 Gotta get our minds right.
00:36 Gotta pray up. That's it right there.
00:37 Well, we have the bishop here, so if we're ever going to get prayed up, today is the day.
00:40 Big day. Yeah.
00:41 We have a great show for you today because first off, today is opening day at Chase Field.
00:46 And we are getting a look at what is going to be happening for the fans tonight at the opening game.
00:51 It's like a whole weekend of opening baseball.
00:55 Yeah.
00:56 Dynabats and MLB.
00:57 Look at how beautiful that is. Oh my gosh.
00:59 It's going to be good.
01:00 The field looks gorgeous. I mean, man, that looks so fun.
01:03 Maddie, have fun out there.
01:04 But also, we've been helping you prepare for Easter Sunday.
01:08 It's this weekend. I know it's early this year, but this weekend for Easter Sunday all week.
01:12 And today is no different. Registered Dietitian Kristen Carley is here with some healthy but delicious veggie-filled Easter recipes.
01:20 I love it.
01:21 She always inspires me to be healthier.
01:24 Yeah.
01:25 I don't know. To be honest, I don't like peas, so I don't know how much of this I can really incorporate.
01:32 Why don't you like peas?
01:33 I really don't like peas.
01:34 Is it the texture?
01:35 Peas are so gross.
01:36 Thank you, Stu.
01:38 Oh my gosh.
01:39 I don't know what it is.
01:40 Wow.
01:41 You know what? I tried to give peas to Arlo the other day, too, and he was not having it.
01:46 Wow.
01:47 So I think it's a family thing. We're not about peas.
01:51 Yeah, they're upset about peas all of a sudden. Wow. Okay.
01:54 You even weren't green? Are you trying to make this worse?
01:56 That's right. You know what? I fell in love with peas because they got Jolly Green Giant. Remember the commercial?
02:01 I mean, yes. I know the commercial, but does that make peas taste better?
02:05 Yes, it does.
02:06 No.
02:07 That's what my mother had me. That's why we ate them.
02:09 I'm not a fan. Not a fan. Stu, I stand in solidarity with you.
02:14 Also, we have Dogtopia is in the studio to help us find ways for your furry friend to be stimulated during playtime.
02:22 Aw, look at this.
02:23 Cutie.
02:25 Yeah.
02:26 So sweet.
02:27 I wish I could take that one home. I can't. That's his.
02:29 So, that's David. So, that one looks so cute. Oh my gosh. I love it.
02:34 So, all right. Let's jump into some trending. Brought to you by Gerber Injury Law because if you have scratch and sniff TB at home, you're going to want to definitely see what's going on here because it smells good in here.
02:43 Get up. Start sniffing your screen because you guys.
02:46 But the thing that's trending right now and that is basketball. We are down to the Sweet 16 and you know who's involved? University of Arizona. The Wildcats, Bear Down.
02:54 That's right. Tonight they play at 4 o'clock against Clemson. And so, I didn't know they were ranked number 2. I guess they moved up in ranks after they've been winning.
03:03 Oh, okay.
03:04 So, they're number 2. Clemson's number 6. Game is at 4 o'clock our time. So, when you look on there, don't go 7 o'clock.
03:10 But they've been looking good in practice, they said. They're excited to do this. But this is going to be the West Division tonight with North Carolina and Alabama taking on.
03:22 And tomorrow goes into the other games which is UConn, San Diego State, and Illinois and Iowa City along with Houston, Duke, North Carolina State, Marquette, and Purdue, Gonzaga, and Tennessee, and Creighton.
03:39 So, it's a big game going on. So, it's Sweet 16 and you know, literally next weekend, they're all here for the March Madness Final Four.
03:47 Nice. Alright.
03:48 Happening here in our hometown.
03:49 I know. This is a big deal. I mean, there's a lot of stuff going on. A lot of people are watching. A lot of people are betting on it.
03:55 Yes.
03:56 Are you?
03:57 I have. I've won some money.
03:58 Oh, okay.
03:59 I've won some good money. So, I'm pretty excited.
04:00 Well, you could buy us all lunch with that money you won or you could just go to Raising Cane's because for the rest of March, Raising Cane's is inviting fans to root for the underdog and we have some of it here with us in studio today.
04:11 It smells so good.
04:12 Look at that.
04:13 And during each round of the Men's College Basketball Tournament, Raising Cane's will give away a few free box combos for every upset.
04:20 When the odds get beaten, the chicken fingers get eaten. I like that.
04:25 Customers can register to win a box combo by visiting CanesUnderdogChallenge.com. So, you have to be 18 or older to enter to win a free box combo during the underdog challenge.
04:39 But I love this because, okay, I love an underdog too.
04:42 We were saying this earlier. We love a Cinderella story. We love an underdog and Raising Cane's is, you know, joining the team.
04:51 And that's what I've been winning on. I've been winning on betting on the underdogs.
04:55 Really?
04:56 Yeah, and actually, I'll give away the secret, you bet for the halftime score because usually the underdog is up during the halftime.
05:04 Oh, they eventually lose.
05:06 Yeah, they do eventually lose because most of the teams are good in the second half.
05:12 Right, they save it up. They let you think like, "Oh, we'll give them a couple. We'll give them the first half, make them think they're going to win and then have a stake in it."
05:20 But I do have to say, the women's have been amazing.
05:22 Oh, they have?
05:23 I didn't know Notre Dame was ranked number two and they've been just going crazy.
05:27 Just crushing it, yeah.
05:28 And then, of course, Iowa with, is it, I forgot what, is it Catherine or?
05:32 Caitlin Clark.
05:33 Caitlin Carlin.
05:34 Right.
05:35 Yeah, Clark.
05:36 There it is.
05:37 Look at you here.
05:38 Ryan is screaming from the other room. I love it.
05:40 But what's really funny is that I saw a story yesterday that there is actually a Caitlin Clark who lives here in Phoenix.
05:46 Oh, no way.
05:47 Who actually played basketball in high school but not college.
05:51 So people are calling her being like, "Girl, congrats."
05:54 Exactly.
05:55 She's like, "It's not me."
05:56 I know, she's like, "It's not her."
05:58 Oh my gosh, it's so funny.
05:59 But that's funny. But yeah, basketball is on everybody's mind.
06:01 Absolutely.
06:02 A lot of baseball is that time of year.
06:03 Basketball and chicken fingers.
06:05 There you go.
06:06 All right, we're done. Let's just go to break. I don't want to go eat. I wish I could.
06:10 I know, it smells so good.
06:11 It's not sour.
06:12 But hey, coming up, we're learning about the religious history of Easter when The Mix returns.
06:17 Easter may be known for the baskets full of gifts, the chocolate bunnies, and the dyed eggs.
06:36 But there's another reason to celebrate the day, and here to explain is Bishop Dolan from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.
06:41 We're very happy to have you here. How are you, Bishop?
06:43 Thanks, Dan. Thanks, Lexi. It's great to be here.
06:45 Thanks so much. Yeah, thanks for being here.
06:47 So, like we were saying in our little intro, a lot of people are celebrating this weekend, this whole week leading up to this weekend.
06:54 But it's really about what's happening this weekend for those of us who do celebrate.
06:58 This is really special in the church.
07:00 Tell us a little bit about the history of Easter in the church.
07:04 Well, within the church, it obviously ends and begins with Christ, with Jesus.
07:12 So, he suffers, he dies. On the third day, he rises from the dead.
07:17 And it's a celebration of new life in the most dramatic way, where he rose from the dead, not just spiritually, but physically,
07:26 and showed his hands and his side and ate with the disciples and all of that.
07:30 So, it's beyond our imagination.
07:34 It's kind of blows us away.
07:36 It's mysterious and mystical. That's what's so cool and beautiful about it for people who are members of the church and who are believers.
07:44 And this comes at the end of the Lenten season, which is much more of a somber waiting season.
07:52 So, the 40 days of Lent kind of symbolize what happened when Jesus went into the desert for 40 days and 40 nights
07:59 and discerned his own mission that he was going to embrace after that.
08:06 And in essence, that's what we do.
08:08 We're trying to go through those 40 days, 40 nights of our own penance, if you will,
08:15 examining our conscience and then saying, "How are we honestly focusing on our God and let's get back on track if we're not?"
08:23 A lot of people think Easter weekend starts Friday with Good Friday, but actually, today is a very important day.
08:30 That's right. Holy Thursday, it's a time where we focus on a number of things.
08:35 It's the Last Supper of Jesus.
08:37 And another piece of that is the washing of the feet, which is highly symbolic.
08:43 It's kind of a mandate for us to go out and be charitable in all ways.
08:49 And Jesus, who is God from our perspective, humbled himself to wash the feet of the apostles.
08:57 And that's what's actually happening today, starting at noon until 3, which I didn't know actually took place here.
09:03 I just know I've heard about it, but that's happening today.
09:06 Yeah, that's a unique thing at the Basilica downtown.
09:09 They're actually having a washing of the feet, and anyone who happens to be coming by,
09:14 including many of those who are on the streets, will have an opportunity just to be cared for.
09:21 And that symbolic washing of the feet is going to take place.
09:26 And that's really beautiful. What a great way to be Jesus to the people.
09:32 That's right.
09:33 That's really, really cool. And there's so many other incredible Masses going on this weekend,
09:37 because it's not just today, not even just tomorrow, Saturday as well.
09:41 That's right. So technically what we have is within our church, our tradition is it starts on Holy Thursday,
09:48 goes through Good Friday, because we don't have a Mass on Good Friday, but we do have the service.
09:54 We have a service, and then it concludes with a Saturday evening with the Easter Vigil,
10:00 and then ultimately with the celebration of Easter. And then that's a 50-day celebration, too.
10:05 So Easter is 50 days.
10:07 It's not just the one day.
10:08 The one day.
10:09 Bishop, you said something that's very important, and that's a service.
10:12 Explain a little bit between a service and a Mass, because I think people don't understand that.
10:16 Right. So the Mass itself includes the Eucharistic celebration, so the breaking of the bread.
10:23 In the case of the service, that is really focusing on kind of the Passion of Christ, His death.
10:29 And so we read from the Gospel of John, specifically His Passion, His death, and His placement in the tomb.
10:41 And then we get to the next day, which is Holy Saturday morning, and we focus on Jesus who descended to the dead, right,
10:50 and then kind of woke up the dead in essence, reaches out to Adam.
10:55 So there's a great homily, an ancient homily, focusing on that, the beauty of Christ's reaching down into the dead
11:02 and kind of grabbing the hands of Adam and Eve and all of that. It's a beautiful story.
11:07 And this is a very, very special weekend, obviously.
11:10 It's Easter weekend, and you and I were just joking before we started that it's kind of the Super Bowl for the Church, truly.
11:16 Yes. Well, particularly, I'm a bishop, and so I don't have the same experience as the priests.
11:23 I used to, but once I became a bishop, I lived more in the world of governance.
11:28 But the priests in their parishes, they're really rolling up their sleeves. They're really busy.
11:33 It's their Super Bowl.
11:34 And the big part is, Bishop, you want to get the word out, is that everyone's welcome, Catholic or non-Catholics.
11:39 That's correct.
11:40 Because there's people that want to come to see what it is about because they've never experienced it.
11:43 So you're opening the doors and saying, yes, please come.
11:46 Yes, indeed. And of course, this is celebrated in all denominations within the Christian enterprise.
11:52 This particular period, the Eastern Orthodox celebrate it at a different time, but within the Western Church, if you will,
12:02 Lutherans and Catholics and Methodists and so on, we all tend to celebrate it on this weekend.
12:09 Yeah. Well, it's a great weekend to go out, to come to church.
12:13 Any one of the churches that you just mentioned will be celebrating.
12:16 Oh, yeah.
12:17 It's a big, big deal.
12:18 It's a big crowd.
12:19 Absolutely. And we definitely encourage you to get out and celebrate.
12:22 But if you can't, here at the CW7, we are proud to partner locally with the Phoenix Diocese to bring you live special coverage of Good Friday service,
12:33 which will be this Friday at 3 p.m. and also that Easter service we were talking about, Easter Mass, this Sunday at 9 a.m.
12:40 It's all taking place from St. Simon and Jude Cathedral in Phoenix.
12:44 Yes. So that's great.
12:45 Bishop, thanks for joining us this morning.
12:46 It's my pleasure.
12:47 We've been very busy.
12:48 Yeah.
12:49 All right.
12:50 Coming up after the break, we are getting some expert tips on how to spruce up your home this spring.
12:54 So stick around.
12:55 [music]
13:09 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of Beyond Paint, Trex, SpectraSci and K&N by Gorbis Communications.
13:18 Spring is here and last week, Brad talked with 20-year home improvement and lifestyle expert, Kathryn Emery, who's sharing four projects to refresh our homes.
13:29 Good morning, Kathryn.
13:32 How are you?
13:33 Oh, happy official spring, by the way.
13:37 Yes, it is official, and you know what that means?
13:39 That means taking care of our homes, getting them ready for opening up the doors, people getting outside, doing things.
13:47 But the big part is, is our air filters.
13:51 It's a perfect time to make sure we're getting clean air circulating through the house.
13:54 Am I right?
13:55 You are -- it's music to my ears, my friend.
13:58 So we're all busy cleaning, right?
14:00 What happens to all those dust and particles that goes into the air?
14:03 We need to change our air filters every three to six months.
14:06 I am so excited to introduce K&N.
14:09 They have gotten to the home air filtration system now.
14:13 What if I told you this was washable and reusable and is going to last you 10 years?
14:18 You heard me correctly.
14:19 Look at how easy it is.
14:21 So you simply take the air filter out of your HVAC unit, you rinse it off, you shake off the excess water, pop it back in.
14:28 By the time the segment's done, Brad, we could have cleaned our air filter.
14:32 I love how sturdy and efficient these are, though.
14:35 The frame, the mesh, guess what?
14:38 It's going to provide superior airflow, in fact, 70% better than those disposable at trapping dust, pollen, smoke particles, bacteria, pet dander.
14:49 Because look at how durable these are.
14:51 So you're not having to go to the store.
14:52 This is going to last you a decade, pretty much the life of your HVAC system.
14:57 Isn't this -- but you might know K&N because they're in the automotive space for 50 years.
15:03 Thank goodness they've made it over to the home space, right?
15:05 Yes, I'm on my way right now to get one of those.
15:08 I'm totally --
15:09 Right? Amazing.
15:10 It's so cool.
15:11 Okay, big problem I'm having right now is that my services are looking so dull, so how can I bring them back to life?
15:18 All right, it's spring project time.
15:20 The vanities, the cabinets, the countertops, what if I told you that you can actually refresh them all with paint?
15:27 You heard me right.
15:28 So this is Beyond Paint.
15:30 This is an all-in-one water-based project paint.
15:34 No stripping, sanding, or priming required.
15:37 So it is super easy to apply, Brad, because it's formulated to bond to most surfaces.
15:42 It is a bonder, primer, and sealer all-in-one.
15:45 Indoor projects, you can see they're outdoor projects.
15:48 Go to Lowe's.
15:49 Go to Lowes.com.
15:50 See it for yourself.
15:51 You're going to end up saving thousands of dollars on costly renovations.
15:55 I mean, think about cabinets, how much that costs.
15:57 You can update them with just simple paint.
15:59 Isn't this a genius product?
16:00 I love it.
16:01 I love it.
16:02 That's good.
16:03 All right, we've got to move to outdoors because literally when I left the house today, I looked over at my RV, and I saw weeds.
16:10 And I'm like, "People must think that, like, my RV doesn't move."
16:12 But it does.
16:13 So what about outdoor taking care of the weeds?
16:16 You know what?
16:17 And you don't want to get down on your hands and knees or use those different devices, right?
16:21 So I have a way you're going to get it done in a day, in fact, probably an hour.
16:25 So this is called SpectraSide OneShot.
16:28 I'm going to let you know how it is going to enhance your life.
16:32 Number one, it's one application.
16:34 It is going to kill those weeds.
16:37 It is going to prevent those weeds for up to five months.
16:40 So the whole season and beyond, superior to the competition out there.
16:45 It's fast-acting, as we can see.
16:47 It kills the roots.
16:48 I love that it's rainproof within an hour.
16:50 So no matter if you go out and do the project, it's going to get it done.
16:53 But I just love how easy it is.
16:55 Simple to apply.
16:56 Gets the job done.
16:57 You don't have to think about it.
16:59 So you've got to get some of this.
17:01 Make sure that walkway and driveway are looking beautiful, my friend.
17:04 There you go.
17:05 You just answered the question.
17:06 I was wondering what to do.
17:07 So it's going to look good.
17:08 Okay.
17:09 It will.
17:10 As we're talking, of course, outdoors, our backyards.
17:12 We want to enhance them.
17:13 We want to make them look good.
17:14 What tips do you have for us?
17:15 All right.
17:16 It's time to really build that dream deck you've always wanted.
17:19 You've got to go composite.
17:20 It's so much easier than wood.
17:22 And so Trek's, you know, they're the inventor and leaders of composite decking.
17:26 This is their next generation decking.
17:28 It's called Trek's Transcend Lineage.
17:31 Let's transcend ourselves right there, Brad.
17:33 Isn't that beautiful?
17:34 So these boards, they're designed to reflect the sun so it keeps the boards cooler.
17:39 They're also designed to resist stains, scratches, and mold.
17:43 So what I'm hearing right here, very low maintenance, just soap and water, unlike wood, right?
17:49 And look at how natural.
17:50 It actually looks like real wood, five colors inspired by nature.
17:54 You're feeling good on that deck.
17:56 You're looking beautiful on that deck because it's such a gorgeous deck.
17:59 Guess what?
18:00 You can also feel good about buying it because this is a sustainably made product from 95% recycled and reclaimed materials.
18:08 Oh, and by the way, Brad, did I mention it has a 50-year warranty?
18:12 So look good and feel good on that deck, right?
18:14 Ooh, I like that.
18:15 You know, I just laid down the concrete to put down a deck.
18:18 That's what I'm going to go do.
18:20 Done.
18:21 You're good.
18:22 We got the checklist all set, right?
18:24 We do, and where can we find more information about our checklist?
18:28 Everybody should go to BeTheBestHome.com.
18:30 Perfect.
18:31 Hey, Catherine, thanks for joining us this morning.
18:33 Always absolutely my pleasure, my friend, and happy spring.
18:36 [music playing]
18:39 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored on behalf of Beyond Paint,
18:44 Trex, SpectraSide, and K&N by Gorbage Communications.
18:48 [music playing]
18:52 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
18:55 [music playing]
19:02 All right, welcome, welcome, welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
19:08 Yes.
19:09 Oh, yeah, it's going to be a good one if you're looking to head up north this weekend,
19:13 where we have some great events for you to check out up in Prescott.
19:16 Yes, and it's going to be kind of nice up there, I think, even though it's going to be kind of chilly down here.
19:20 It's kind of weird.
19:21 We're doing the flip-flop.
19:22 It's like warmer up there than it is down here.
19:25 Yeah.
19:26 Keeping your furry friends occupied can be a fool--can be--can feel impossible,
19:32 but Dogtopia is here to help with some of the activities that will have them going for hours.
19:38 I love that.
19:39 Yeah, you got to get those energies out.
19:41 Yes.
19:42 You got to get the zoomies out.
19:43 It's just like the kids.
19:44 Like, you get them out--I would do.
19:46 I love this kid and Ralphie.
19:47 I sit into the backyard, and I throw a toy out there.
19:49 They run around.
19:50 I come back in, and then they're done.
19:52 It's like Arlo.
19:53 I put them in his bouncer.
19:54 I throw a toy and say, "Go get it."
19:56 Arlo, fetch.
19:58 So, okay, as we've been talking, it is Easter weekend coming up.
20:02 It is Easter.
20:03 And that's where people get out the baskets, the candy and stuff.
20:05 Your Easter baskets, your eggs, your chocolate candies, all of the things.
20:09 But the craziest thing is right now, the two things that I think we associate the most with Easter,
20:15 which are eggs and chocolate, are both skyrocketing in price because of these shortages.
20:23 So I was reading about the egg issue.
20:25 Eggs are so expensive right now because there have been some issues of bird flu, the inflation situation.
20:34 So people are debating, is it worth it to buy these expensive eggs to dye eggs?
20:39 I don't know.
20:40 What do you think?
20:41 For us here, it was where Hickman Farm has a big thing.
20:45 And remember, that caught on fire a couple of years ago.
20:48 Right.
20:49 So we're just now feeling those effects now.
20:50 Yeah, feeling those effects for it.
20:51 So that's incredible.
20:52 Yeah, but eggs, I mean, you dyed eggs when you were young, right?
20:55 Absolutely.
20:56 Yeah, we grew up dyeing eggs.
20:57 That was something that I always imagined doing with Arlo, with my kids.
21:02 Obviously, he's probably too young right now, but eventually.
21:06 But yeah, I don't know.
21:07 Is it worth it?
21:08 I mean, eggs are well into the $3, $4 a carton.
21:11 Yeah, but then we want to substitute it with maybe chocolate eggs.
21:14 That's expensive.
21:15 That's also expensive.
21:16 So yeah, I was reading something else that was saying that cacao prices or cocoa prices have skyrocketed for chocolate.
21:24 Up 75% of global chocolate production has gone way up.
21:28 Wait, wait, I'm sorry.
21:29 Let me make sure I say this right.
21:31 For poor climate and crop disease in West Africa, home to 70% of global cocoa products has been really bad.
21:38 So that's why.
21:39 Yeah, they're saying that it's incredible.
21:41 This is incredible.
21:42 They say that chocolate sales the two weeks around Easter hit $925 million.
21:48 That was last year.
21:49 That's insane.
21:50 So what a lot of the companies are doing, they're doing a little switch and getting gummies and stuff.
21:54 I didn't know Shaquille O'Neal just signed another deal with somebody that's with Hershey to do gummies.
21:58 And they said now that the gummy industry is really booming because of the chocolate industry is going really bad.
22:04 That's crazy.
22:05 Well, there you go.
22:06 So there are other options, right?
22:07 Like you can do other things rather than just the chocolate or just the eggs.
22:11 You can find other things because I know for me sometimes the price, I don't know if it's really worth it.
22:17 You know what?
22:18 Christy Carlson, is she mic'd up?
22:20 I know we have a couple of seconds.
22:21 Is she mic'd up?
22:22 Can we have her run in here really quick because I think I have an alternative to all this that I think she's going to grip on.
22:27 She's not mic'd up.
22:28 She's not.
22:29 Okay.
22:30 She's not mic'd up.
22:31 We'll ask her in the segment.
22:32 Tell me what you're.
22:33 I want you to ask her that instead of eggs and chocolate, carrots, broccoli and peas in the basket.
22:39 Definitely not.
22:40 Arlo would be so disappointed.
22:42 I'm telling you, families put vegetables in the basket.
22:45 Arlo would be so disappointed with those peas, I'm telling you.
22:48 Can you see kids waking up on Easter with carrots and vegetables in there?
22:53 I mean, maybe the carrots would make sense because bunny is a rabbit, but the rest of it, no.
22:59 No, I don't like it.
23:00 I don't like it.
23:01 But you know what I do like is that we have a new lineup here at the CW7, so grab your seat on the couch and enjoy some laughs with us today.
23:07 Starting this afternoon with two hours of your favorite funny man, Steve Harvey, and family for you, that's at 4.
23:13 We follow that up with the Big Bang Theory, bringing on the laughs at 6 and 630.
23:17 Then it's our new CW prime time lineup with one hour of the Conners at 7, followed by Son of a Critch at 8.
23:23 Got to check those two out.
23:25 Then it's your favorite funny man again at 9.
23:27 Hang in there for the craziest sitcom on TV, which is Mom at 10.
23:34 It is all about the smiles here at the CW7.
23:36 As we like to say, it's all good.
23:41 Yes, and it's all good, so you want to grab your jersey because it's time for Cracker Jacks, peanuts, popcorn, and hot dogs at Chase Field as Diamondbacks opening weekend kicks off tonight.
23:51 So let's head live to the ballpark and see what is in store for the fans with the myth, the legend, and the legend himself, Mr. Derek Hall.
23:59 Derek, how are you?
24:02 I'm good, Brad.
24:03 Hey, I got an idea.
24:04 In the basket, D-backs tickets, right?
24:06 Because we're actually playing on Easter here this Easter Sunday, so don't forget that.
24:10 I like that.
24:11 There you go.
24:12 Easter is all set.
24:13 But let's talk about this because actually opening day kicks off tonight, and it goes all weekend, which is really nice.
24:19 You've got a lot planned for the fans, don't you?
24:23 We do indeed.
24:24 We've got a four-game series against the Rockies starting tonight with opening night, and we go through Sunday, and then we have three games against the Yankees that people are excited about as well, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
24:33 But it all starts here tonight.
24:34 It's really about rolling out the carpet for this upcoming season, whereas tomorrow night will be more about the celebration for what we achieved last season.
24:41 But opening night, as you know, Brad, better than anybody, is so special when we have the flyover and you have the pageantry of the red, white, and blue bunting.
24:47 We'll have a special first pitch with Kurt Warner, Hall of Famer, thrown into Randy Johnson, another Hall of Famer, two different sports.
24:54 And we just love opening day, the excitement, all the energy in the ballpark.
24:57 Yeah, and you know what's also pretty cool, too, is that you make sure the fans are first out there.
25:02 Because I'm looking around right now, and I'm seeing the white and the stands, but that's something special for 40,000 fans that come through, and that is a rally towel already?
25:12 [Pause]
25:32 So, as he's talking out there, uh oh.
25:42 You know what, now you're back, now you're back, there you go.
25:46 So, say it all over again.
25:49 We do have the rally towels coming.
25:51 You got it.
25:52 Yeah, we've got 40,000 rally towels in here.
25:55 And when you see those fans waving that red flag, uh, red towel, like the playoffs and the World Series, it really makes quite a visual.
26:02 And in addition to that, you'll see these little white cards on the seats, those are Advantage members, or our season ticket holders, we call them Advantage members.
26:08 They have a little code that they can scan, and it's a special video thanking them for their support.
26:12 But it's very special, we welcome back all our fans, not only season ticket holders, but the casual fans that are going to be here because they love baseball.
26:18 Yeah, you know what, Derek, I love that when we met, actually it's been since the Dimebacks have come, you know, have been here.
26:24 We've known each other, and I think what's so amazing, it starts from the top up all the way down, about appreciating the fans and our season ticket holders.
26:31 And you make sure that experience is for ticket holders or non-ticket holders, to make sure that the families can all have a good time.
26:37 So there's a lot of changes happening out there, especially with food and places to watch the game now.
26:41 Yeah, thank you, and it's been great knowing you, and our friendship is wonderful.
26:47 I think when it comes to the fans, we also have that special relationship and friendship as well.
26:51 But we make sure our tickets are still the most affordable in all of baseball, hard to believe, but we are.
26:56 We have like 40 new food items, you mentioned it, we have like street tacos this year and tri-tip sandwiches that we haven't had.
27:02 The churro dog has its own headquarters, its own stand now.
27:06 But in addition to that, we have a brand new sound system for its first year, we have brand new lights that are sports lights, they change colors, you can see the red, the teal, all part of that in-game experience.
27:15 And I think that our experience is the best in all of baseball, and Brad, as you know, it's everything from affordability to cleanliness to safety, you get all of that here at the Texas A&M Airbnb.
27:24 In fact, we have a philosophy, one fan at a time. So every fan is as special as any other.
27:29 Okay, and Derek, can we do something that is definitely important to our winning of the season?
27:36 And I think you guys need to do it a little bit more, and that is schedule concerts during the season, because we know what happened last year.
27:43 They had to actually move things around because we made it to the playoffs.
27:46 So I think we make it to the World Series, let's plan a concert, maybe Darius Rucker or somebody, like right during that time of the World Series so we can be in it and we have to move things around.
27:56 I love it, and I'm superstitious, I think we do it again. Everything we did last year we do this year. Let's go ahead and schedule those late October concerts so we have to boot 'em.
28:05 I love it. Okay, tickets still available for two nights game in the weekend?
28:12 We still have some available, but I'd say hurry up because we expect a sellout. So hurry up and get those tickets.
28:17 And while you're online, make sure at DBAX.com you look at our promotional schedule. I think it's the best one we've ever had, Brad.
28:23 I love it. Yep, especially the Bobblehead nights. I'm looking forward to those.
28:26 Derek, thank you very much for joining us. We appreciate it. As he said, head over to the Dynabax website right there on the screen, or you can head over to azdailymix.com to find out more information for it.
28:37 So hopefully we do some really late October concerts. That's what got us there.
28:41 Hey, coming up, see how you can fill your Easter table with some easy and delicious recipes when we come back.
29:00 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of Libby's Vegetables by Camelback Nutrition and Wellness.
29:07 Easter's a time to celebrate with family by enjoying egg hunts, tasty treats, and of course, delicious food.
29:15 But staying healthy during this time can sometimes be tricky, but we are lucky enough to have dietitian Kristen Carley here to give us some healthy eating tips for the upcoming holiday.
29:25 Welcome, Kristen.
29:26 Thank you so much for having me. I'm excited to be here in partnership with Libby's Vegetables. I cannot believe Easter is this Sunday.
29:33 I know, this year is just flying by, but I love when you're here because you really inspire me to find those little ways to sneak kind of healthy things into my diet while not feeling like I'm giving anything up.
29:46 100%. And that's what I love about canned vegetables because they really are a great way to add convenient nutrition to food.
29:53 I'm a busy mom, you're a busy mom. I'm going to look for those shortcuts whenever I have them and canned veggies are the way to do that.
29:59 Okay, so let's talk a little bit about what we have on the table.
30:01 Okay, so this is a beet hummus. I've paired it with some carrots, some cucumbers, some pita bread.
30:06 What I love about beets is that beautiful, vibrant color.
30:10 Definitely.
30:11 But here's the thing. I am never going to use a raw beet. I just won't do it. I'm not going to peel it. I'm not going to steam it. It takes way too long.
30:18 And let me just say, I recently tried to do fresh beets and my hands were dyed red. It was not good.
30:25 This is where canned beets can really come into play because they're cooked, they're peeled, they're fork tender, they're just ready to go.
30:32 What I love is that just in a can, you've got water, vegetables, and salt in Libby's Vegetables.
30:38 So it really is just simple, short ingredient list, really convenient nutrition.
30:43 Definitely. I think a lot of us think there's more going on in the can, but it really is just that.
30:48 You were already going to add the salt and the water anyways. That's all that's in there. That's great.
30:52 It's a great time-saving hack. So in that hummus, I've got some beets, some chickpeas, some walnuts, some lemon juice and garlic.
30:59 So really flavorful. I've topped it with some gorgonzola cheese.
31:02 Yum.
31:03 It's a great way to add some color to your Easter tablescape.
31:06 And if you're hosting, this looks gorgeous. This color is delicious. The food looks incredible and fresh.
31:12 I love this. This would be beautiful to have guests come in on your Easter celebration.
31:16 Showstopper, for sure.
31:17 Definitely. Definitely. It's beautiful.
31:19 And you're going to love this one because you're Italian. I'm Italian as well.
31:22 So I grew up eating biscotti. This is a carrot cake biscotti.
31:26 So we're using those flavors that are very typical from Easter and springtime.
31:31 And I drizzled some white chocolate on there. And we used some canned sliced carrots.
31:37 Wow. Okay. Canned sliced carrots in a carrot cake biscotti.
31:43 You got it.
31:44 Yes. I love this. This sounds incredible. Okay. Walk me through how you made this.
31:47 So what I really like about using cans here is, again, I would have to peel the carrots. I would have to steam the carrots.
31:51 So much work.
31:52 I didn't have that kind of time.
31:53 Yeah.
31:54 So what I do is I just drain a can of the carrots. They're already cooked.
31:57 You end up mashing the carrots into the batter. So we like that fork tender texture.
32:01 Absolutely.
32:02 So it's perfect for these.
32:04 Saves you that time. You don't have to do all the prep work. They're ready to go.
32:08 Especially because I'm assuming a biscotti is a little bit more of, you know, an involved recipe.
32:15 So you want this to be something easy that you can just throw in there and go.
32:19 Yeah. Perfect. So we're going to need a dessert because it is a celebration.
32:23 So this is a perfect one to add to your table.
32:25 This is great. And this would also be great because it is Easter. A lot of people are doing brunch.
32:30 Yes.
32:31 So this will be great as a little dessert with your coffee.
32:33 I love it.
32:34 100%.
32:35 Delicious.
32:36 And then lastly over here, we've got this beautiful crostini.
32:38 So you can have a little appetizer for your brunch spread.
32:41 Beautiful.
32:42 We've got baguette with a lemon and mint ricotta.
32:45 I mix that together.
32:47 And then I've got some peas with Parmesan.
32:49 Super bright flavors. Seasonal.
32:52 We love peas for the springtime recipes.
32:55 This is a perfect one to add to your table.
32:57 Okay. So I was saying before, I'm not the biggest fan of peas.
33:03 But this sounds like it's going to be a great recipe because you're getting in those veggies.
33:07 You're kind of sneaking them in.
33:09 100%. Anything with cheese, right? That helps.
33:12 I was going to say the cheese, the lemon, the mint, all of those other flavors are going to enhance
33:18 but kind of like allow your palate to enjoy the flavors all together rather than just having such a strong pea flavor.
33:26 Exactly.
33:27 Absolutely.
33:28 That's great.
33:29 So this is beautiful because any one of these dishes are going to look like a showstopper on your Easter table.
33:36 So this is beautiful. I really love this.
33:38 Kristen, tell us where we can find more about you.
33:40 Sure. Yeah.
33:41 So you can find all these recipes at libbysvegetables.com.
33:44 And then you can also find their canned Libby's vegetables in any grocery store around town.
33:49 You can find more about me at camelbacknutritionwellness.com.
33:52 And what I love about following you is you have a lot of recipes that are good for the little ones but also for the whole family.
33:59 Absolutely.
34:00 So any one of these would be great I think for all ages.
34:03 Absolutely.
34:04 This is really great.
34:05 All right, Kristen, thanks for being here.
34:06 Thank you.
34:07 I'm excited to try this hummus. This looks to die for.
34:09 Get in there.
34:10 I will.
34:11 All right, hey, coming up we're getting some tips to keep your pups occupied for hours when the mix returns.
34:16 [music]
34:30 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored on behalf of Libby's Vegetables by Camelback Nutrition and Wellness.
34:37 [music]
34:43 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored by Dogtopia.
34:47 [music]
34:49 Play the dog.
34:50 All right, we all need to get out and be active to stay healthy, and that includes our four-legged family members.
34:56 And here to give us some tips on how to keep our dogs healthy and active is David Duran from the Dogtopia Tempe.
35:02 How are you?
35:03 I'm good. How are you?
35:04 I'm doing great and excited because you brought another -- listen, you bring dogs into me and I'm just like --
35:08 I know.
35:09 I'm melting, so.
35:10 This is little Patrick. He's here.
35:11 I love it.
35:12 He's our model dog here for the day.
35:15 So let's talk a little bit about, of course, our dogs being active and how important --
35:19 Absolutely.
35:20 -- especially at this time. We're starting to see the weather change a little bit.
35:22 Yeah, so obviously I'm from Dogtopia of Tempe, so our first option is going to be doggy daycare.
35:27 That's kind of what we're all about.
35:29 All of our dogs are coming to daycare consistently on a routinely basis every week,
35:34 and we really believe that, you know, that routine daycare and socialization is so important for the dogs.
35:38 It really gets them tired out, and just being around other dogs and being active is a good thing.
35:42 But obviously if you can't do daycare or if daycare is only a part-time thing for you,
35:46 there's so many other options of keeping your dog entertained at home.
35:49 Yeah. So, David, I want to mention about the daycare.
35:51 This, again, is very important, and that is if you have that doggy,
35:54 "Yeah, well, my dog doesn't get along with other dogs."
35:57 You've never had them with other dogs like they do at Dogtopia, and I think that's what's important.
36:01 So then when you do get out in public with them, they act much better.
36:04 Right, exactly.
36:05 They know how to socialize, and they know how to take cues from other dogs and stuff when they're out in public.
36:10 Yeah. So, okay.
36:11 Like you said, okay, we can't get out there to Dogtopia always.
36:13 Maybe our schedules or something like that.
36:15 How can we make sure our dogs are active?
36:17 So we've got some interactive toys here.
36:19 These are all toys that I found online for under $20.
36:23 So there's no brand-specific thing here.
36:25 There's so many variations of these toys online at different price points.
36:29 But we have this.
36:30 This is actually really great for dogs that like to chase balls.
36:33 It's an interactive ball that will just go on the floor by its own.
36:36 And you can actually put a tennis ball skin on it for those dogs that are obsessed with tennis balls.
36:40 Yeah.
36:41 And then we also have this guy here where you can put the treats inside.
36:44 Okay, I want to show that to the camera so they can see this is important.
36:47 So here, and then you said the treats go in.
36:49 And then the doggies will spend their time trying to open these up.
36:53 And it'll get them pretty tired out, that stimulation of just trying to find the treats.
36:57 And does this move around? Is that what happens?
36:59 It does, yeah.
37:00 There's different things that they can move around and lift and slide over.
37:03 Oh, wow.
37:04 But this one's our favorite one.
37:06 This one's what we call our Snuffle Mat.
37:08 And this is what keeps Patrick entertained for a little bit.
37:12 And he usually naps out right after because he's digging in there for his little treats.
37:17 Oh, my goodness.
37:18 And so as he's-- look at-- and that's really neat because that's what dogs go out in the backyard and do.
37:24 They sniff around.
37:25 Yeah, they like to sniff around.
37:26 And honestly, that's how they get a lot of their energy out is just exploring and using their nose.
37:31 So this is a great way to keep them entertained at home if you're on a call or if you're busy.
37:35 This will entertain them for about 30 minutes or so until he finds all the treats.
37:39 I also want to mention the setup you have.
37:44 And I forget what mine's called.
37:46 We call it the Doggie Sweater.
37:47 But it's the actual Walking the Dog.
37:50 Oh, the harness.
37:51 The harness.
37:52 Yeah, for sure.
37:53 Walking the Dog is also a really good thing to do.
37:55 If you don't want to walk long, just letting your dog sniff around in a short distance,
38:00 even if you're just on your block or cul-de-sac,
38:02 just letting the dog sniff is just as much exercise for them as walking around.
38:06 They get just as stimulated.
38:08 And the harness is the reason why I'm talking about the harness is how it's set up.
38:11 It's not around the neck.
38:12 And that's really a big part.
38:13 Yeah, for sure.
38:14 This is important for little dogs like Poodles because they have a lot of throat issues.
38:17 So we always want to use a harness for these little guys here.
38:20 I like that.
38:21 Yeah.
38:22 And if you're a dog too, let's remind people that they need to check the ground when they're outside with their dog too
38:27 because it's starting to get warm out there.
38:28 Absolutely.
38:29 You always want to touch the ground with the back of your hand.
38:30 If it's too hot, it's too hot for the dog.
38:32 So, yeah, booties up for sure for the puppies.
38:35 Okay.
38:36 Some other fun ways.
38:37 I know not everybody likes to give their dogs baths.
38:40 But it's a really great way to bond with your dog and spend some time with your dog.
38:44 Dogtopia has these amazing new products on dogtopiashop.com with really nice flavors like pina colada.
38:51 So it's nice to, you know, if you want to spend some time with your pup at home, just giving them a little pampering.
38:55 It's nice to do that.
38:56 You bond with your dog.
38:57 If you make it like a ritual and a routine like on a weekly or, you know, twice a month basis, it becomes something that they enjoy.
39:03 Yeah.
39:04 Versus, you know, dropping them off somewhere and then having a scary bath.
39:07 Right.
39:08 And so let's really grab this.
39:09 As you said, bonding with them.
39:10 And you take, you know, your shower.
39:12 So the dog needs one too.
39:13 So it's not a bad--it's not a big chore.
39:14 I think it's fine.
39:15 And it smells nice too.
39:16 Yeah, that's the other part too.
39:17 Your dog's not going to smell like a dog.
39:18 Yeah.
39:19 I forgot to mention these are really fun bubbles.
39:21 Yeah, let's talk about this because this is one of the bubble things.
39:23 Yeah, this is one of the little bubble machines I found.
39:25 It's not on right now.
39:26 Oh, I was going to chase the bubbles.
39:27 But I did bring the Dogtopia bubbles.
39:28 These are our birthday cake flavor bubbles.
39:31 But we normally have peanut butter and bacon flavored bubbles, which are doggy safe, as you know.
39:35 Yes, and that's what's great about having these because then what they do is that the dog knows that they play with them at Dogtopia.
39:41 Yeah.
39:42 So when they come home and play, they kind of like get familiar with, okay, you know what?
39:45 This is how I'm supposed to act.
39:46 This is how I'm supposed to be because I'm kind of still playing.
39:48 Absolutely.
39:49 So I love this.
39:50 All right, so let's talk Dogtopia and dropping off.
39:52 How do people, of course, get into the program?
39:55 Yeah, so it's free to have a meet and greet at any of the Dogtopias.
39:58 There's 10 across the valley.
40:01 And if you need to find a specific one, just go to Dogtopia.com and search for your closest Dogtopia.
40:06 Scheduling a meet and greet is free.
40:08 Anybody can schedule one, bring their dog in for an evaluation.
40:12 And if all goes well, then we talk about enrollment and getting the dog set up in daycare.
40:16 I like it.
40:17 There you go.
40:18 Information is right on the screen for the Dogtopia in Tempe.
40:21 Also, very quickly, you guys have a great program there for giving back.
40:25 Absolutely.
40:26 So we partner with Canines for Warriors to give back to service dogs.
40:31 I'm sorry, we provide service dogs for veterans and youth.
40:34 And Dogtopia of Tempe just sponsored their first service dog and we're halfway to our second one.
40:39 So we're really excited about that.
40:40 I like it.
40:41 There you go.
40:42 If you want more information, head over to aztv.com.
40:45 So there you go.
40:46 All right, after the break, see what fun events are happening up in Prescott.
